A Development of Robot and Convergence Activity Curriculum Model for Elementary School Students (초등학생을 위한 융합활동-로봇분야 교육과정 모델 개발)

  • Lately, the importance of robot education is rising in elementary schools, because of STAEM education. In this study, robot and convergence activity curriculum in software education was developed to robot education for elementary school. We suggested robot education framework based on the Rainbow system, which is repeatable and progressive. The framework is divided into 7 steps, 14 criteria. So, their students can be promoted to the higher level when they complete the lower level, regardless of their grade. It is necessary for robot education in elementary schools to develop the contents and programs according to suggested curriculum.

An Analysis of the Astronomy Terms in Convergence Science Textbooks (융합형 과학 교과서에 사용된 천문 분야 용어 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the terms of astronomy area used in six convergence science textbooks by 2009 curriculum revision. The results of this study were following; the first, the contents about astronomy occupied about 18.6% account of science contents. There were the terms which all textbooks used, but some terms were not used other text book, and the others were used in only one textbook. And the second, there were some terms of having certain concept which had described differently. It was suggested that it was necessary to the effort to prevent to descript same meaning terms differently and to make guideline for the depth and width of the terms.

Research on Ways to Improve Science Curriculum Focused on Key Competencies and Creative Fusion Education (핵심역량과 융합교육에 초점을 둔 과학과 교육과정 개선방향 연구)

  • Changes are expected in the future, and the future society will expect changes in education. Science curriculum needs to reflect such demands for changes in the future of education. Hence, this study explored ways to reflect the changes demanded by the future society in science education. In this study, we investigated the major issues and directions for improvements based on the findings from questionnaires given to 447 primary and secondary school science teachers as well as in-depth interviews with 12 experts. We explored the problems of the 2009 revised national science curriculum including organization of science elective courses, fusion 'science' as an elective course, intensive course-taking of science, career-focused science curriculum, variation of completion units in science elective courses, and fairness of science elective course selection in college entrance. In addition, we proposed ways to organize science curriculum around core competencies and STEAM education suggested by science teachers. According to the results, we need to add such key competencies as basic learning abilities, self-identity, and moral competencies to science curriculum in addition to existing key competencies including problem solving and communication. Regarding the fusion science, experts contended that convergence of science courses should come before that of science and other subjects, and that STEAM with science as the axis was the desired form of convergence. We also need to establish a curriculum development center that exclusively focuses on science curriculum research and development.

  • Breaking down the boundaries between recent study has emerged as a key issue of convergence education to create new knowledge. The core of IT Convergence Education is being made through educational SW, SW purpose of education has been focused on improving the CT(: Computational Thinking). The purpose of this paper is to design a CT teaching model for activating IT Convergence Education. In this study, we designed a CT Curriculum focusing on algorithm and program for the purpose of enhancing non-majors learner's CT ability and software adaptability and being utilized in the majors. It is expected to be utilized to design a CT teaching methods and curriculum in University.

An Improvement of the Computer Curriculum of the Middle School through the Analysis of 2007 Revised Curriculum (2007개정 교육과정 분석을 통한 중학교 컴퓨터 교육과정 개선)

  • The aim of this study is to find out problems between the '7th National Curriculum' and '2007 Revised National Curriculum' that would initially apply from 2009 and then to suggest better ways to improve computer education in Middle schools. A survey was carried out with a questionnaire. Based on the result, a comparison was made and a suggestion has been derived: Firstly, the computer subject should not be treated as a rival to others anymore, rather it should be considered as an essential subjects. Secondly, teachers who take computer subjects as their major should be allocated to middle schools. Thirdly, computer subjects should be taught systematically from elementary and be continued throughout in order to promote the level of the computer science education. Fourthly, the advantages of computer utilisation should be taken into account to layout the computer curriculum that is practicable and learner-centered. Finally, teachers should recognise the main aim of computer education and teach computer subjects to be useful in education. Though the revised version is not perfect the more the curriculums are revised, the better they might be expected to be developed. Consequently, whenever the newly revised computer curriculum emerges, the defects should be identified and addressed in order to achieve the aim of the computer curriculum.

Desirable Major Education through a Survey on the Needs of Education Subjects

  • Purpose: This study aims to be used as a reference for setting the direction of university major education & policy. Research design, data and methodology: The satisfaction survey were nine major curriculum surveys for each college, targeting students enrolled in a university. One university consisted of 9 colleges and 49 departments or majors. The survey period is approximately one month. Results: The highest item in the major curriculum reflects the educational goal of the department, with a score of 3.95. Conversely, the lowest item is 3.65 points, indicating that the major curriculum offers a wide range of subjects to choose from. As the questions are higher than the average score (3.83 points), the major curriculum is helping me grow my competency through academic achievement (3.90 points), the major curriculum is helping me set my career and finding a job (3.88 points), The major curriculum suggests specific performance standards for judging the achievement of a set target competency (3.88 points), and the major curriculum reflects social demands and changes (3.85 points). Conclusions: Students want that their major education faithfully reflects the educational goals of their major and that major education helps their ability to grow for academic achievement.

  • The purpose of this paper is to reveal the limitation of previous studies on curriculum re-construction and to suggest an alternative for curriculum re-construction. Through the literature review, this paper finds that previous studies quiet over the direction about selecting as well as organizing contents. In order to overcome the weaknesses of previous studies, this paper embraces the interest of learner for establishing the direction of curriculum reconstruction. To be more specific, this study shows that how can the ideas of growth, habit, and interest of John Dewey connect to contents-selecting and organizing in the process of instruction. As a result, this paper helps curriculum discourses to make progress for various direction and helps teachers to reconstruct the contents based on interests of their students.

  • In this study, we examined the satisfaction level of J university's compulsory liberal arts subject with quantitative research. The results quantitative research are as follows. First, men are more interested in creative thinking, college life guidance and career path design than girls. Second, the level of satisfaction with the required liberal arts subject by grade was found to be without a statistical significant difference. Third, the satisfaction level of each line of learning was shown in the order of natural engineering, health and welfare, physical fitness, and humanities. The satisfaction level of the lines of learning was found to vary. Fourth, The satisfaction level of each campus was found to vary. The results of this study could be used as basic data to improve the college liberal arts curriculum, especially the compulsory liberal arts curriculum.   • Defense reform our military for the globalization of information. Information Domain Curriculum Composition Direction in Subject-Centered Curriculum (교과중심 교육과정에서의 정보영역 교육과정 구성 방향)

  • This study is about the direction of how to compose the information domain curriculum in the domestic subject matter centered curriculum system. To this end, subject-centered and competency-centered curriculum were compared and analyzed, and how the information domain was organized in two types was suggested. In spite of emphasizing competency, the domestic curriculum was judged to be inclined to the subject-centered curriculum because it emphasized the presentation of national-level educational goals, a subject learning model, and textbooks. As examples of the information domain subject-centered curriculum, the information domain of the elementary practical subject and the middle school information curriculum were presented, and the SW convergence curriculum was presented as an example of a progressive curriculum. Under such circumstances, it was emphasized that in order for the learner to lead a life in an intelligent society in the future through the information domain including SWAI content, it must be explicitly described in a subject-centered perspective with computer science as the parent study.
