The purpose of this study is to analyze characteristics and expression methods of contemporary art museums from the perspective of 'Rhizome', which is considered under similar context as 'indeterminacy' that represents the characteristics of contemporary public spaces. Methods of this study are as follows. First, necessity of this study is verified by investigating literature data and preceding studies, and by examining the fact that indeterminate characteristic is a new approach to contemporary public spaces. Second, in order to analyze Rhizomic expression in public spaces, analysis criteria are suggested by extracting components of public spaces and spatial characteristics of R150hizome from the literature. Third, Rhizomic characteristics and expression methods used in contemporary art museums are understood based on such analysis criteria. Fourth, when each spatial characteristic is expressed in art museums, the study found out that two factors among 'program', 'circulation', and 'form' are planned out as a mixture. Therefore, 'cohesion' is expressed as 'program' and 'form' in contemporary public spaces viewed from the perspective of 'Rhizome'. Also, 'diversity' is actively expressed through 'program' and 'circulation', and 'non-hierarchy' through 'form' and 'circulation'. Such methods are positive methods of expressing indeterminate contemporary public spaces. Since this study conducted analysis on characteristics and expression methods of public spaces from Rhizomic perspective of contemporary society, such results are deemed valuable in planning out public spaces that reflect the characteristics of contemporary society.

Contemporary fashion criticism tends to rely solely on the established art criticism process without consideration of the distinctive characteristics of fashion. Thus, this study aims to reveal the unique roles and characteristics of fashion criticism by recognizing it as an independent field in contemporary art with its own social significance. This study will first apply traditional art criticism models to analyze and explore contemporary fashion criticism's empirical content before uncovering the uniqueness of contemporary fashion criticism by content analysis. Contemporary fashion criticism discusses not just physical objects but various topics and ideas, as well. Accordingly, the existing criticism model was modified in this study to fit contemporary fashion criticism and organized into five stages: description of historical fashion, form description, external evaluation, interpretation, and internal evaluation. Commerciality, the human body, coordination, the critic's individuality, trends, and fashion-related persons were identified as key factors of contemporary fashion criticism's uniqueness. In conclusion, rather than build a single contemporary fashion model, this study found it more effective to create individual fashion criticism models suitable for detailed fields, as these enable the discussion of multifaceted topics in the fashion field. This study is expected to serve a meaningful guide for the fashion discourses.

Vernacular perspectives had been ignored in the movement of modern architecture. This study's purpose was to review vernacular perspectives and to identify vernacular characteristics of earth architecture. Six representative contemporary earth architects were selected, and then their works were analyzed. Themes of vernacular architecture based of Frampton's critical regionalism were emerged. Findings were as following: 1) constructed by considering the local climate and the region's natural characteristics, 2) constructed with local materials seeking integration of structure and finishing work, 3) having tectonic form included regional characteristics, 4) creating space of various senses and expression of texture through earth modeling, 5) presenting homogeneity of sense of place between site and architecture, and 6) pursuing ecological and sustainable architecture. These characteristics of contemporary earth architecture reflect the vernacular architecture inherited continually in architectural history. Therefore, contemporary earth architecture has been in line with contemporary architecture aiming for sustainability.

This study is focused on the indeterminancy of the contemporary social structure based on the philosophical concept of relationship. The indeterminate relationship is one of the prominent characteristics of contemporary architecture. This study aims to clarity the indeterminate programs of the contemporary urban spatial structures. By tracing this new characteristics of new architectural trend, the spatial situations of could be understood in light of new conceptual frame as well as some relevant architectural project cases.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of applying the planning characteristics of Neowa houses to contemporary residential structures. Contrary to the popular assumption that traditional Korean houses have decentralized plans, local building traditions observed in Neowa houses show that the diversity among hanoks allows the incorporation of traditional spatial organization into the contemporary residences. By analyzing the spatial organization of Neowa houses, three advantageous planning characteristics were found. First, the presence of indoor wooden floors (maru or daechung) as well as outdoor wooden floors in Neowa houses is practical for Korea's weather marked by humid summers and icy winters. Secondly, the internal orientation of space in Neowa houses is more appropriate in the contemporary context of a highly urbanized society emphasizing family privacy. Thirdly, the flexibility and interchangeability of interior elements can be applied to improve efficiency. By applying the aforementioned characteristics, this study suggests ways to adopt traditional features to improve contemporary residences.

This research analyzes trends of fashion show window displays, regarding it as a new form of installation art that has the characteristics of contemporary art. Fashion show window displays are more than a physical space for displaying and have emerged as a new space in which creative expressions of arts take place. This research presents the characteristics of contemporary fashion show window displays by analyzing the characteristics of contemporary art. First, recent show window displays have shown "decentralization": various themes, forms, and mediums that are accepted without discrimination. Recent show window displays deviate from conventional methods, constantly pursuing experimental and progressive ideas and also include categories of current art, body art, and live art. Second, show window display has "interactiveness" that enables two-way communication between audiences and art, rather than fixing audiences as receptive viewers. Third, "textuality" can be found in show window displays. Recent show windows are use "objects" to show products as well as to express the meaning and symbols of products. A new directionality and effective strategies are shown to be imperative for the future development of fashion show window displays.

The purpose for this paper is to categorize and analyze the aesthetic characteristics of graphic factors in contemporary fashion design by media source. Focused on play-instinct visual expression in contemporary fashion design and adopted media source following the way of communication design. A variety of literatures and online sites for graphic factors in contemporary fashion was studied. The standard of media source is classified as graphic media-source: photography media-source, typography media-source, illustration media-source. With this standard, expressed ways are as followings. First, graphic media-source in play-instinct expressional fashion design is mostly borrowing existed character or using designer's brand logo. Second, photography media-source in play-instinct expressional fashion design is placed photograph of social issued people in front of shirt. Third, typography media-source in play-instinct expressional contemporary fashion design is mostly expressed social messages or designer's name in brand. Fourth, illustration media-source is the best way to express play-instinct visual expression. Based on these, aesthetic characteristics of graphic factor in contemporary fashion by media source are classified as three: social words, playfulness and information transference. Frequency ratio using media source per aesthetic characteristics is different and these are able to categorize expression way and image feature. In conclusion, expressional way of graphic factors in contemporary fashion design became diverse as social and cultural changing. Frequency of graphic factor use in contemporary fashion is increased than before. This paper suggested that fashion design is one of the way of communicating with people and should be analyzed graphic factors in contemporary fashion design.

Nowadays, numerous major cities around the world are undergoing urban regeneration through 'culturenomics' as a key strategy, which finds out cultural resources in a cultural backwater and revitalizes the city and its economy by making full use of those resources. The purpose of this study is to research the strategies and the characteristics of the contemporary museum by regeneration of abandoned architecture through such case studies as Tate Modem in London, PSI Contemporary Art Center in New York City, Hamburger Bahnhop-Museum for Contemporary Art in Berlin and Ullens Center for Contemporary Arts in Beijing. This study eventually suggest the basic guideline for the contemporary museum by regeneration of abandoned architecture, aiming to establish Seoul as an environmentally cultural city. The case studies show all of the four museums preserve almost all of their appreances, basic structures and spaces, but, their material expressions, exhibition methods and their programs vary depending on their goals and strategies differentiating the way they preserve the old architectural elements and the way they add the new ones forming their unique characteristics.

The meaning of the characteristics of formative expression in contemporary residential architecture is flowing elements as important means to inbreathe emotional feeling of movement and as automatic and positive wats of expression. So the purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of formative expression in contemporary residential architecture, and to plan residential design linked with this kind of concept. For this study, analysis of case studies were used and the cases were selected in contemporary residential architecture which were represented having formative expressions since 2005. The major results found that the characteristics of formative expression were ex-center, reiteration, dispersibility, diagonality, plasticity, non-linearity, and deconstruction. In addition to that, we derived various methods expressing the formative characteristics, which were mass transformation, plan variation and composition element transformation. Summing these results up, the various characteristics of formative expression in contemporary residential architecture are understood as the results of the free modeling will of architects fulfilled with the spirit of inquiry and experiment to escape from the standard architecture in order to differentiate themselves.

This study investigated the clothing constructional characteristics of contemporary folk Jogori design retailed at the market. This study focussed on comparison of style variation between contemporary Jogori and traditional Jogori. The data were collected from five top contemporary folk dress makers's 997-1998 fall-winter collection. The results of this study were as following. 1) The traditional folk clothing constructional elements remained most among the con- temporary Jogori design were center back seam(Deung-Sol) and attached front bodice extensi on(Sup). Neckline shaping(Geet) and neckline binding(Dong-Jeong) were also observed frequently. 2) The most obvious changes from the traditional Jogori design were elimination of the ribbon fastener in front, adaptation of various neckline shaping used in the Yi dynasty, and lengthened garment length. 3) The western garment construction techniques applied to the contemporary Jogori design were use o( pocket and button closure. The center front extension was replaced with attached front bodice extension(Sup) for a few Jogori design.
