In this paper, a meshfree-enriched finite element method (ME-FEM) is introduced for the large deformation analysis of nonlinear path-dependent problems involving contact. In linear ME-FEM, the element formulation is established by introducing a meshfree convex approximation into the linear triangular element in 2D and linear tetrahedron element in 3D along with an enriched meshfree node. In nonlinear formulation, the area-weighted smoothing scheme for deformation gradient is then developed in conjunction with the meshfree-enriched element interpolation functions to yield a discrete divergence-free property at the integration points, which is essential to enhance the stress calculation in the stage of plastic deformation. A modified variational formulation using the smoothed deformation gradient is developed for path-dependent material analysis. In the industrial metal forming problems, the mortar contact algorithm is implemented in the explicit formulation. Since the meshfree-enriched element shape functions are constructed using the meshfree convex approximation, they pose the desired Kronecker-delta property at the element edge thus requires no special treatments in the enforcement of essential boundary condition as well as the contact conditions. As a result, this approach can be easily incorporated into a conventional displacement-based finite element code. Two elasto-plastic problems are studied and the numerical results indicated that ME-FEM is capable of delivering a volumetric locking-free and pressure oscillation-free solutions for the large deformation problems in metal forming analysis.
This paper is concerned with the numerical analysis of frictional contact problems in axisymmetric bodies using the rigid-plastic finite element method. A contact finite element method, based on a penalty function, are derived from variational formulations. The contact boundary condition between two deformable bodies is prescribed by the proposed algorithm. The program which can handle frictional contact problem is developed by using pre-existing rigid-plastic finite element code. Some examples used in this paper illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed formulations and algorithms. Efforts focus on the deformation patterns, contact force, and velocity gradient through the various simulations.
Two-dimensional elastic contact problems, including normal, tangential, and rolling contacts, are treated with the finite element method in this study. Stress boundary conditions and kinematic conditions are transformed into multiple point constraints for nodal displacements in the finite element method. Upon imposing these constraints into the finite element system equations, the calculated nodal stresses and nodal displacements satisfy stress and displacement contact conditions exactly. Frictional and frictionless contacts between elastically identical as well as elastically dissimilar materials are treated in this study. The contact lengths, sizes of slip and stick regions, the normal and the shear stresses can be found.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify health promoting behaviors and health problems in contact center consultants, and to provide basic data in order to develop health promoting interventions for these people. The subjects were 680 consultants randomly selected from 6 contact centers out of 31 in D city. The data were collected from March 20, to March 28, 2008. Methods: The tools for this study were HPLP II developed by Walker et al. (1995) that was modified and translated by Park (2005) and modified CMI for contact center consultants based on CMI developed by Bordman (1994). The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t test, ANOVA, and Scheffe test with the SPSS WIN 14.0 program. Results and Conclusion: The contact center consultants' health promoting behavior was in a low level and they had certain health problems related to their job such as eye, ear and throat. In consideration of contact center consultants' job characteristics, health education should be provided with the development of systematic health programs.

A hierarchical planning strategy for dextrous manipulation of multifingered hands with soft finger contact model is proposed. Dextrous manipulation planning can be divided into a high-level stage which specifies the position/orientation trajectories of the fingertips on the object and a low-level stage which determines the contact forces and joint trajectories for the fingers. In the low-level stage, various nonlinear optimization problems are formulated according to the contact modes and integrated into a manipulation planning algorithm to find contact forces and joint velocities at each time step. Montana's contact equations are used for the high-level planning. Quasi-static simulation results are presented and illustrated by employing a three-fingered hand manipulating a sphere to demonstrate the validity of the proposed low-level planning strategy.

Governing equations infrictional contact problems are introduced using variational inequality formulations which are regularized to overcome the diffculties of non-differentiability of the friction functional. Also finite element approximations and a priori error estimations are derived based on those formulations. Numerical simulations are performed illustrating the theoretical results.
This paper discusses the issues associated with modeling frictional contact between solid bodies undergoing large deformations. The most common model for friction on contact interfaces in solid mechanics is the Coulomb friction model, in which two distinct responses are possible: stick and slip. Handling the transition between these two phases computationally has been a source of algorithmic instability, lack of convergence and non-unique solutions, particularly in the presence of large deformations. Most computational models for frictional contact have used penalty or updated Lagrangian approaches to enforce frictional contact conditions. These two approaches, however, present some computational challenges due to conditioning issues in penalty-type implementations and the iterative nature of the updated Lagrangian formulation, which, particularly in large simulations, may lead to relatively slow convergence. Alternatively, a plasticity-inspired implementation of frictional contact has been shown to handle the stick-slip conditions in a local, algorithmically efficient manner that substantially reduces computational cost and successfully avoids the issues of instability and lack of convergence often reported with other methods (Laursen and Simo 1993). The formulation of this approach, however, has been limited to the small deformations realm, a fact that severely limited its application to contact problems where large deformations are expected. In this paper, we present an algorithmically consistent formulation of this method that preserves its key advantages, while extending its application to the realm of large-deformation contact problems. We show that the method produces results similar to the augmented Lagrangian formulation at a reduced computational cost.

Differential inequalities occurring in problems of obstacle contact problems are recast into variational inequalities and analyzed by finite element methods. A new a posteriori error estimator, which is essential in adaptive finite element method, is introduced to capture the errors in finite element approximations of these variational inequalities. In order to construct a posteriori error estimates, saddle point problems are introduced using Lagrange parameters and upper bounds are provided. The global upper bound is localized by a special mixed formulation, which leads to upper bounds of the element errors. A numerical experiment is performed on an obstacle contact problem to check the effectivity index both in a local and a global sense.

For the numerical solution of frictional dynamic contact problems, correct contact points and displacements are determined by iteratively reducing the displacement error vector monotonically toward zero And spurious oscillations are prevented from the solution by enforcing the velocity and acceleration compatibilities of the contact points with the corresponding error vectors. Numerical simulations are conducted to demonstrate the accuracy of the solution and the necessity of the velocity and acceleration compatibilities on the contact surface.

A finite element code is developed for 3-D self-contact problems, using continuum elements with a SRI(Selective Reduced Integration) scheme to prevent locking phenomenon by the incompressibility of rubber. Contact treatment is carried out in two ways : using the displacement constraints in case of rigid contact ; and imposing the same contact forces on two contact boundaries in case of self-contact. The finite element code developed is applied to the deformation analysis of C.V.joint boots which maintain lubrication conditions and protect the C.V.joint assembly from impact and dust. The boot accompanies large rotation depending on the rotation of the wheel axis and leading to the self-contact phenomena of the boot bellows. Since this contact phenomenon causes wear of the product and has great influence on the endurance life of the product, it is indispensable to carry out stress analysis of the rubber boots. In case of self-contact, various methods for determining contact forces have been suggested with an appropriate contact formulation. Especially, the types of penetration in self-contact are modularized to accelerate conputation with a contact algorithm.
