Fabrication and Evaluation of Polyelectrolyte Complexes of Dextran Derivatives for Drug Coating of Coronary Stents

  • The aim of this study was to fabricate a dextran polyelectrolyte multi-layer on a bare metal stent (BMS) and to evaluate bio-physical properties of the layer. Diethylaminoethyl-dextran (DEAE-D) as a polycation and dextran sulfate (DS) as a polyanion were successively coated on the bare metal stent by a well-known layer-by-layer procedure. The morphology of the stent surface and its cell adhesion were studied after each coating step by scanning electron microscopy. The stent showed more blotched and slightly rougher morphology after dextran-DS coating. The contact angle of the DEAE-DS group ($39.5{\pm}0.15^{\circ}$) was significantly higher than that of the BMS group ($45.16{\pm}0.08^{\circ}$), indicating the improvement of hydrophilic. The SMC proliferation inhibition in the DEAE-DS-coated stent group ($20.9{\pm}0.04%$) was stronger than that in the control group ($21.7{\pm}0.10%$ in DS-coated group only). The DEAE-DS coating is desired for stent coating materials with biocompatibility and anti-restenosis effect.

  • Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) flat sheet hydrophobic membranes were prepared using 16 wt% PVDF in Dimethyl acetamide (DMAc) by phase inversion technique for desalination application using Membrane Distillation (MD). In this work, the effect of coagulation mediums such as ethanol and water as well their synergistic behavior on the fabricated PVDF membrane morphology was studied using SEM. Moreover, other characteristics required for the membrane distillation applications namely porosity, hydrophobicity and tensile strength were measured using the gravimetric method, sessile drop method and universal testing machine respectively. It was observed that the membrane morphology paradigm shifted from the finger-like structure to the sponge-like structure on increasing the ethanol concentration in coagulant. The porosity of the fabricated membrane was under the required MD range and found to be 57.3% at 16 weight % of PVDF in DMAc solvent under a pure ethanol coagulant bath. Moreover, the top surface contact angle ranges from 85° to 115° on increasing the bath concentration from CBC 0 to CBC 100 at 16 weight % of PVDF in DMAc solvent.

NaCl 수용액에 담근 Hydroxyapatite 코팅된 타이타늄 시편의 표면 변화 (The Surface Characteristic Changes of Hydroxyapatite Coated Ti Disc When Immersed in NaCl Solution)

  • Hydroxyapatite 코팅 임플란트의 세포반응성을 증가시키기 위한 다양한 연구들이 진행되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 Hydroxyapatite 코팅된 타이타늄 시편을 NaCl 수용액에 다양한 기간 동안 담그어 놓았을 때 발생하는 표면거칠기, 표면접촉각, 표면에너지 등의 표면 특성의 변화를 관찰하였다. Hydroxyapatite 코팅 타이타늄 시편을 0.9% NaCl 용액에 담근 후 각각 7일, 14일, 21일간 $37^{\circ}C$를 유지하였다. 담그지 않은 동일한 시편을 대조군으로 하였다.(n=3) 모든 시편을 공기 중에서 완전 건조 후 공초점레이저주사현미경(CLSM)를 이용하여 표면거칠기를 측정하였다. 증류수를 시편 표면에 떨어뜨린 후 표면접촉각을 video contact angle analyzer를 이용하여 측정하였고 세 가지 용액을 떨어뜨려 접촉각을 측정하여 표면에너지를 산출하였다. 표면을 관찰하기 위해 Field Emission-Scanning Electron Microscope 촬영을 시행하였다. 본 연구 결과 Hydroxyapatite 시편을 Nacl 수용액에 담그는 간단한 방법을 통해 표면거칠기 및 친수성이 증가하는 것을 관찰할 수 있으며, 이러한 표면특성의 개선을 통하여 세포반응성이 증가하는 것을 기대할 수 있다.

투명 발수 반사방지 코팅의 표면 형상 의존성 (Dependence of Surface Morphology of Transparent Hydrophobic Anti-Reflective Coating)

  • 모바일 디스플레이 및 태양전지의 커버글라스에는 반사방지 코팅 및 셀프클리닝과 같은 기능성 코팅이 필요하다. 최근 들어 나방 눈 또는 연꽃 잎과 같은 자연의 기능성 표면을 모사하여 공학적으로 응용하고자하는 많은 연구가 수행되었다. 특히 실리카 나노입자를 이용한 반사방지 기능성 코팅은 빛의 투과를 증가시키며, $TiO_2$ 광촉매 코팅은 셀프클리닝 기능성 필름에 적용되어왔다. 본 연구에서는 $SiO_2/TiO_2$ 나노입자의 박막 코팅에 의한 투명 발수 반사방지 코팅을 sol-gel 공정과 dip-coating 공정으로 글라스 기판 위에 제조하였다. 기능성 코팅의 표면형상 의존성을 원자힘현미경, 접촉각 측정 및 UV-visible 분광광도계 분석으로 조사하였다. 그 결과 $TiO_2$ 나노입자의 코팅은 가시광선 영역에서 투과율을 저하시키지 않고 기판인 슬라이드 글라스와 비슷한 수준의 높은 평균 광 투과율을 나타내었다. 또한 7nm $SiO_2$/7nm $TiO_2$ 나노입자의 이중층 기능성 코팅은 접촉각 $110^{\circ}$의 투명 발수 표면 특성을 나타내었으며, 가시광선 영역에서 기판인 슬라이드 글라스 보다 2.3% 높은 평균 투과율의 향상을 나타내었다.

대기압 Ar/O2 플라즈마 표면처리된 자동차용 냉연강판의 표면특성 및 접착특성평가 (The Evaluation of Surface and Adhesive Bonding Properties for Cold Rolled Steel Sheet for Automotive Treated by Ar/O2 Atmospheric Pressure Plasma)

  • Cold rolled steel sheet for automotive was treated by Ar/$O_2$ atmospheric pressure plasma to improve the adhesive bonding strength. Through the contact angle test and calculation of surface free energy for cold rolled steel sheet, the changes of surface properties were investigated before and after plasma treatment. The contact angle was decreased and surface free energy was increased after plasma treatment. And the change of surface roughness and morphology were observed by AFM(Atomic Force Microscope). The surface roughness of steel sheet was slightly changed. Based on Taguchi method, single lap shear test was performed to investigate the effect of experimental parameter such as plasma power, treatment time and flow rate of $O_2$ gas. Results shows that the bonding strength of steel sheet treated in Ar/$O_2$ atmospheric pressure plasma was improved about 20% compared with untreated sheet.

Effects of elastic strain on the agglomeration of silicide films for electrical contacts in integrated circuit applications

  • This paper reports a potential problem in the electrical performance of the silicide film to silicon contacts with respect to the scaling trend in integrated circuit (IC) devices. The effects of elastic strain on the agglomeration of the coherent silicide film embedded in an infinite matrix are studied employing continuum linear elasticity and finite-difference numerical method. The interface atomic diffusion is taken to be the dominant transport mechanism where both capillarity and elastic strain are considered for the driving forces. Under plane strain condition with elastically homogeneous and anisotropic system with cubic symmetry, the dilatational misfit and the tetragonal misfit in the direction parallel to the film thickness are considered. The numerical results on the shape evolution agree with the known trend that the equilibrium aspect ratio of the film increases with the elastic strain intensity. When the elastic strain intensity is taken to be only a function of the film size, the flat film morphology with a large aspect ratio becomes increasingly unstable since the equilibrium aspect ratio decreases, as the film scales. The shape evolution results in a large decrease in contact to silicon area, and may deteriorate the electrical performances.

나일론 6 직물의 아크릴산 그라프트 중합과 그라프트 나일론의 세척성 -그라프트 나일론 직물의 헤모글라빈 오구 세척성 향상- (The Effect of Graft using Acrylic Acid on the Detergency for the Nylon 6 Fabric -Improvement of Hemoglobin Removing Rate on Grafted Nylon-)

  • Nylon fabric was grafted for the purpose of the development of detergency against the hemoglobin as a protein soil. By free-radical producing chemical initiator systems the graft using acrylic acid(AA) as a hydrophilic vinyl monomer was performed to change surface energies in the presence of ammonium persulfate(APS) as an initiator and then acrylic acid grafted Nylon was treated with NaOH solution. The surface morphology for Nylon-g-NaAA with changing graft rate were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) The properties of the Nylon such as diameter tenacity elongation contact angle and the hemoglobin removal were also investigated. The diameter of grafted Nylon fiber increased as the graft ratio increased. The tenacity of grafted Nylon also increased with increasing graft ratio up to 15% The elongation however decreased gradually according to graft, The contact angle decreased after graft and alkaline treatment. The amount of hemoglobin on the grafted Nylon increased in proportion to the graft ratio. Hemoglobin was easily removed from grafted Nylon while it was difficult to be removed from ungrafted Nylon. The detergency of hemoglobin for grafted Nylon decreased when the graft ratio exceeded 15% The removal of hemoglobin increased markedly with increasing hemoglobin content and revolution speed. Therefore the removal of hemoglobin was improved due to graft and alkaline treatment.

고주파 마그네트론 스퍼터링 방법을 사용하여 Al 기판위에 증착된 PTFE 박막의 초-발수에 관한 특성 연구 (Characteristic Investigation on Super-Hydrophobicity of PTFE Thin Films Deposited on Al Substrates Using RF-Magnetron Sputtering Method)

  • Super-hydrophobic properties have been achieved on the rf-sputtered polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) films deposited on etched aluminum surfaces. The microstructural evolution created after etching has been investigated by FESEM. The water contact angle over $160^{\circ}$ can be achieved on the rf-sputtered ultra-tihn PTFE film less than 10 nm coated on aluminum surface etched with 7 wt.%, 12.5 wt.%, and 15 wt.% HCl concentration for 12 min. XPS analysis have revealed the presence of a large quantity of $-CF_3$ and $-CF_2$ groups in the rf-sputtered PTFE films that effectively can reduce the surface energy of etched aluminum. The presence of patterned morphology along with the low surface energy at the rf-sputtered PTFE coating makes the aluminum surface with high super-hydrophobic property.

Microspoum canis 감염원으로서의 애완동물 (Family Pets as a Source of Microspoum canis Infection)

  • Microspoum canis에 감염된 개 및 고양이와 직접 접촉한 경험이 있는 5명의 환자를 조사하여 동물기생체로서의 이 진균의 중요성을 확인하였다. ring worm의 전형적인 병변은 신체의 노출된 부위에만 발생하였다. M. canis는 환자와 감염된 애완동물의 피부병변에서 분리되었으며 피부 시료로부터 직접 증명되었다. 그림에도 불구하고 비접촉군과 사물성환경으로 부터는 증명되지 않았다. 사람, 개 및 고양이에서 분리된 진균들은 육안적으로나 현미경적으로 서로 비슷한 형태를 나타내었다. 이 진균들의 유전학적 연구결과는 교배(-)형이었다. 동물기호성 표재성진균의 전염은 직접적인 접촉에 의해 자주 일어나는 것으로 사료된다. 이감염증에 대한 역학과 예방방법에 대해 고찰하였다.

Removal of methylene blue using lemon grass ash as an adsorbent

  • Wastewater from textile industries is a major cause of water pollution in most developing countries. In order to address the issues of water pollution and high cost for treatment processes, the use of an inexpensive and environmentally benign adsorbents has been studied. The objective was to find a better alternative to the conventional methods. Lemon grass waste (ash) collected from a lemon grass stream distillation subunit in Bhutan was tested for dye removal from aqueous solutions. The study investigated the removal of methylene blue using the following operational parameters: initial concentration (100-600 mg/L), contact time, adsorbent dose (0.1-0.55 gm/100 mL), and pH (3-10). It was found that the percentage removal of dye increased with a decrease of the initial concentration and increased contact time and dose of adsorbent. The basic pH solution of dye showed better adsorption capacity as compared to the acidic dye solution. Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms were fitted to the data well. Data fitted better to Lagergren pseudo 2nd order kinetics than a 1st order kinetic model. Surface morphology was also examined via scanning electron microscopy. An elemental analysis was also carried out and the chemical composition and functional groups were analyzed using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy techniques, respectively. The obtained results indicate that lemon grass ash could be employed as a low cost alternative to commercial activated carbon in wastewater treatment for the removal of dyes.
