The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between lifestyle types, demographic variables, and clothing consumption orientations of male and female adolescents. The method of this study was a survey research by using questionnaires. Subjects were 393 high school students in Seoul. Four lifestyle types of adolescents were derived by cluster analysis: 'digital orientation type', 'material orientation type', 'positive enterprise type', and 'achievement orientation type'. The material oriented students spent high expense on clothes, had higher preference of imported products, had more sensuous consumption orientations, did more impulsive buying, and were more influenced by advertisements than other types of students. Digital oriented students had mothers with low educational background, low academic records, spent small expense on clothes, and had less sensuous consumption orientation. There were more male students than female students in positive enterprise type and the students of this type had upper middle academic records, had higher sensuous consumption orientation and did less impulsive buying. There were more female students than male students in achievement oriented type and this type had high academic records, had mothers with high educational background, and spent small expense on clothes. They had low level on most of the clothing consumption orientation and were especially less influenced by advertisement. This research confirms that the clothing consumption orientations are associated with the lifestyle of adolescent.

The purposes of this study are (1) to research the purchasing consumption and disposing skill of adolescents and related variables and (2) to provide some informations about the consumer education program and policy for adolescents. The survey of this study was conducted using questionnaires. The data used in this study included 649 adolescents in Phohang. The statistics used for data analysis were frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation, analysis of variance(ANOVA) with Scheffe'-test. T-test, Multiple Regression Analysis, using the SPSS Win program. The results of this research were as follows:1) Purchasing skill was different significantly according to sex, grade, mother’s educational level, the degree of keeping an account book, the degree of checking after using the pocket money, interest on the contents related with consumer’s daily life and communication about consumption with their friends and parents. Consumption skill was different significantly according to grade, amount of pocket money, the degree of keeping an account book, the degree of checking after using the pocket money, interest on the contents related with consumer’s daily life and communication about consumption with their parents. Disposing skill was different significantly according to grade, from of school amount of pocket money, the degree of keeping an account book, the degree of checking after using the pocket money, interest on the contents related with consumer’s daily life and communication about consumption with their parents. 2) The most influential variable of purchasing, consumption & disposing skill was ‘communication about consumption with their parents’ and ‘the interest on the contents related with consumer’s daily life’respectively.
Energy consumption in university building has steadily increased over the last decade, and a strong upward trend in recent years. This study was undertaken to analyze the relationship between energy consumption and their affecting factors, six academic buildings were considered. The factors limited to heating and cooling, which is the main end use (nearly 60 per cent of total energy consumption in university buildings), encompassing system and operating schedules (user activity) and area use. To understand how to building is used, operated and managed, walk-through assessment was conducted as well as interview with university staff. The results show that the energy consumption of the humanities building was somewhat smaller than the consumption of the science and engineering building, and its range was from $31.26kgoe/m^2$ to $23.52kgoe/m^2$, depending on heating and cooling system and area use. And the energy consumption of the science and engineering building was related to operating schedules (user activity) as well as laboratory equipment characteristics. More analysis on a larger number of buildings is required in the future, including building form and material performance level to generalize the significant factors influencing building energy consumption.
This study aims to offer basic data for consumer education regarding the use of mobile phones by adolescent consumers in a correct way by researching and analyzing the consumption value and consumption behavior of adolescent consumers for mobile phones to see how they use mobile phone as consumers, which is a serious of user behaviors according to their plan, purchase, use, and disposal. Based on the research results, the study proposes the following in relation to the correct use of mobile phones by adolescent consumers. First, in the purchase or use of mobile phones, a more demonstrative consumption pattern was more likely for males than females and for those who are in higher grades than those who are not. Therefore, it is necessary to offer consumer education given the gender and school year rather than stereotyped consumer education. Second, it is necessary to offer objective information and give consumer education for checking the instant desire for something new in order to prevent an impulsive purchase based upon advertisements given the characteristics of adolescent consumers who prefer new designs or functions. Third, regarding the disposal of mobile phones, it is necessary to seek strategies for recycling mobile phones usefully at an administrative level to prevent mobile phones from being thrown away without being recycled.
The purpose of this study is to identify specific patterns of Sasimi consumption in Korea using cluster analysis. The data applied in the analysis were collected from five major cities in Korea through telephone interview with trained surveyors. This study investigated three major topics; 1. Korean people prefer to eat Sasimi at the restaurants rather than at-home. 2. The quality of Sasimi is different according to where the eating place is located such as seaside or inland. 3. Determinants of Sasimi Consumption are different according to population characteristics, sex or occupation. The main findings of the study can be summarized as following three points. Firstly, Koreans preferred to eat Sasimi out 83.3% of respondents chose eat-out rather than eat-at-home. These are especially popular with men, 40' years older, self-employed, lived in capital area. Secondly, satisfaction level of Sasimi consumption was good in Choong-Cheung province. Since Chung-Cheong Province was located in the inland, the chance to eat Sasimi is lower than seaside. Thirdly, consuming decision factor of Sashimi was different across groups. None of decision factors take effect on Group 1 while indigenous variable of Sashimi has effect on Group 2 and external variable has effect on Group 3. Therefore, in order to increase Sashimi consumption, it is necessary to at-home consumption of Sashimi should be improved. Moreover, it is necessary to develop marketing strategy which fits in regional characteristics and to have government assistance.

In case of school buildings, energy consumption has been noticeably on the increase, along with the changes in outdoor temperature triggered by the improvement in national economic development and educational environments. Research on the characteristics of energy consumption in school buildings influenced by the changes in outdoor temperature is considered very significant in social aspects in that it will be fundamental to the suggestion of the alternatives, such as saving energy consumption in construction buildings and control of emitting carbon dioxide. In this regard, this study examined sensitivity to temperature of power consumption in school buildings, based on the changes of outdoor temperature for the past five years in the target buildings of elementary, middle and high schools and the amount of energy consumption. From the results, it has been believed that this study was very significant in terms of figuring out a quantitative, optimum level of energy consumption, maintenance of pleasant environments and functions, and the necessity of effective energy use and management in school buildings.
Despite the abundance of research on alcoholic-beverage consumption in the food and beverage marketing literature, research directly assessing and comparing consumers' psychological motives for drinking different types of alcoholic beverages is relatively limited. There is also a paucity of research comparing drink-type specific consumption motivations in an Asian market. Paying attention to some recent new changes in the alcoholic-beverages market of South Korea, this study investigated South Korean young adult female consumers' alcoholic-beverage type-specific drinking motives. A self-administered online survey of 340 young adult female drinkers about their alcohol-consumption patterns, alcoholic-drink preferences, involvement with alcohol, and four types of drinking motives (coping, social, conformity, and enhancement motives) revealed differences in: (1) the association between the consumer's alcohol involvement level, alcohol consumption frequency/amount, and preferences for alcoholic beverages across different types of alcoholic drinks; (2) the underlying psychological motives for drinking different types of alcoholic beverages; (3) the association between consumption contexts and alcoholic drink types; and (4) the consumption patterns and drinking motives across different consumer groups that are segmented in terms of their most preferred type of alcoholic beverages. These findings point to the importance of investigating drink-type-specific consumption motivations in alcoholic-beverage consumption research. Limitations and implications for future research are also discussed.
The purpose of this project was to evaluate whether daily fruit juice consumption could reduce the DNA damage in healthy subjects. The study was performed using 67 healthy volunteers (29 smokers, 38 nonsmokers) who were supple-mented with 480 m1 of grape juice for 8 weeks. Eight weeks of grape juice consumption did not change any anthropometric parameters. Lymphocyte DNA damage before the study was significantly greater (p<0.05) in smoker than nonsmoker, but, grape juice consumption significantly reduced DNA damage in both smoker (26%) and nonsmoker (I7%) to the level where there was no difference remained between the two groups after the intervention trial. This preventive effect of grape juice against DNA damage was not affected by sex of the subjects in non-smokers. Plasma $\alpha$-carotene, Iyco-pene and ${\gamma}$-totopherol was significantly increased after the trial in smokers, while erythrocyte catalase was significan-tly increased in both smokers and nonsmokers. Total radical-trapping antioxidant potential (TRAP) level in all subjects was significantly reduced after the intervention, while GSH-Px activity was increased only in nonsmokers. These results suggests that daily consumption of grape juice may protect DNA damage in peripheral lymphocytes, and supports the hypothesis that grape juice might exert their effect partially via a decrease in oxidative damage to DNA in humans partly by improving their antioxidative defense system.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study is to identify how level of information affected intention, using the Theory of Planned Behavior. SUBJECTS/METHODS: The study was conducted survey in diverse community centers and shopping malls in Seoul, which yielded N = 209 datasets. To compare processed foods consumption behavior, we divided samples into two groups based on level of information about food additives (whether respondents felt that information on food additives was sufficient or not). We analyzed differences in attitudes toward food additives and toward purchasing processed foods, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and behavioral intentions to processed foods between sufficient information group and lack information group. RESULTS: The results confirmed that more than 78% of respondents thought information on food additives was insufficient. However, the group who felt information was sufficient had more positive attitudes about consuming processed foods and behavioral intentions than the group who thought information was inadequate. This study found people who consider that they have sufficient information on food additives tend to have more positive attitudes toward processed foods and intention to consume processed foods. CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests increasing needs for nutrition education on the appropriate use of processed foods. Designing useful nutrition education requires a good understanding of factors which influence on processed foods consumption.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the characteristics and economic status of deficit households compared to surplus households. Data from The Household Income and Expenditure Survey 2005 by NSO and 50, 207 salary/wage earners' households were used for the analysis. The statistical methods used were GLM, logit, and cluster analyses. The analysis results showed that 25.3 percent of the households were deficit households. Approximately half of the lowest 20% income group were deficit households. Income deficit households earned 1, 273 thousand less than that of surplus households, whereas consumption of deficit households was 1, 006 thousand more than that of surplus households. The average propensity of consumption of deficit households was 142.1. According to the logit analysis, factors contributing to the probability of belonging to a deficit household included income level, household size, age and educational level, occupation, homeownership, car ownership, and wife's employment status. Deficit households were classified into 5 types: 1) health care expenditure-dominated group, 2) housing expenditure-dominated group, 3) education expenditure-dominated group, 4) money transfer-dominated group, and 5) overall-overconsumption group. The overall-overconsumption group was the largest group of all at 58.5%. It was found that for all five groups, the changes in household size, income group, home ownership, and occupation of the individual were variables that influenced the probability of belonging to a certain group.
