  • There are a lot of different types of noise from construction site and it depends on construction stage, equipment type and number of operating equipments. The problem is almost noise from construction site is high level and some kinds of noise levels are over 100dB. In addition, if construction site is located in downtown, there are a few options to reduce noise level. Therefore several site mitigation plans are developed to reduce different types of construction noises and it is applied in site and evaluated noise reduction performance in this study.

  • Pipe joining is one of the most critical aspects of most industrial projects, but it is regarded as one of the most inefficient processes in the construction industry. The primary objective of this paper is to explore the applicability of advanced joining technology to the use of metal pipe in the construction industry. This paper begins with a review of current practices with respect to metal joining in the construction industry. The current status of pipe joining is examined. Needs for, and benefits of, advanced joining technology are identified, and a tool for evaluating the applicability of various methods to construction is presented. Joining technologies, including mechanical joining, adhesive bonding, welding, and welding automation, are then introduced, and their applicability to the construction industry is assessed by means of this evaluation tool. It is concluded that there is significant benefits for improvement of piping process in the construction industry through the use of advanced joining technologies.

  • Although the construction industry has become highly advanced, traditional accidents still occur on construction sites, prompting numerous studies and systems aimed at accident prevention using smart construction technology. This study is an exploratory investigation of utilizing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for safety management. The study aims to verify harmful and hazardous factors that UAVs can detect on construction sites, classify management factors, and define improvement measures to present a checklist for each process. Through this, we hope that smart construction technology will be further expanded and applied for on-site safety management.

  • Modular construction is recognized as a construction method with various advantages, such as shortening the construction duration, achieving quality control through factory production, ease of maintenance, and reduced construction costs due to reduced weight of materials. However, despite efforts by the modular industry and government to activate modular construction, it has rarely been established in the domestic market. Currently, there are technical limitations to the modular construction fire resisting technology applied to general buildings. The lack of access to modular construction fire resistance regulation is considered a major factor. In this study, the current status and problems with modular construction fire resistance regulation, a significant hindrance factor, were considered to activate modular construction. This study is intended to present a direction for institutional improvement in modular construction fire resistance and a direction for research and development.

  • High-rise buildings are widely being constructed in the Middle-East, South-East, and East Asia. These buildings are usually willing to stand for the landmark of the region and, therefore, exhibit some extraordinary features such as super-tall height, elevation set-backs, overhangs, or free-form exterior surface, all of which makes the construction difficult, complex, and even unsafe at some construction stages. In addition to the elaborately planned construction sequence, prediction and monitoring of building's movement during construction and after completion are required for precise and safe construction. This is often called the Building Movement Control during construction. This study describes Building Movement Control of the KLCC Tower, a 58-story office building currently being built right next to the famous PETRONAS Twin Towers. The main items of the Building Movement Control for the KLCC Tower are axial shortening and verticality. Preliminary prediction of these items are already carried out by the structural design team but more accurate prediction based on construction stage analysis and combined with time-dependent material testing, field monitoring, and site survey is done by the main contractor. As of September 2010, the Tower is under construction at level 30, where the plan abruptly changes from rectangle to triangle. Findings and troubleshooting until the current construction stage are explained in detail and implementations are suggested for future applications.

  • This paper presents a system architecture and database of construction quality management system which encourages real time information tracking and monitoring. It improves the real time quality record tracking by using QR code technology in the project delivery. The advantages and issues relative to QR code and the database structures of the tracking system are presented. Conventional project scheduling system, operation modeling and analysis system, and quality management system are hybridized using QR code technology. The system improves project quality management by tracking the atomic tasks which consists of a construction process at the lowest level of construction hierarchy. It analyzes the quality records to determine the causes of abnormality and/or nonconformity. Using QR code technology, the construction quality management system may be more effective than the conventional one. It was confirmed that the quality management processes in construction project delivery can be more visible and controllable by integrating QR code technology, project scheduling system, and quality management system.

  • In recent years, dramatic advances in information technology have motivated the construction industry to improve its productivity. Most construction companies are trying to utilize some new information technologies for enhancing the structure quality, shortening construction time, and reducing the construction cost. Digital Mock-Up (DMU) technology utilizes 3D CAD/CAM system that shows the shape of a structure on the computer screen. By modeling and assembling the structure in 3D dimensional environments, some errors in design can be found before or during construction. In this paper, DMU technology was applied to the detail design and construction of In-Cheon Bridge and its effectiveness was evaluated. All components of a PSC box girder segment were modeled and assembled by using of 3D CAD tools and then, some interferences between components and errors were found and revised appropriately before construction. Consequently, DMU technology would improve the quality of the structure and reduce time and cost for construction.

  • In recent years, the digital transformation age represented by the "Fourth Industrial Revolution", which is a universalization of digitalization across all industries, has become a reality. In the construction sector in 2018, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport established the Smart Construction 2025 vision and established the 'Smart Construction Technology Roadmap' aiming to complete construction automation by 2030. Especially, in the construction stage, field monitoring technology using drones is needed to support construction equipment automation and on-site control, and a 3D geospatial information model can be utilized as a base tool for this. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors affecting earthworks work in order to manage changes in site conditions and improve communication between managers and workers in the earthworks plan, which has a considerable part in terms of construction time and cost as a single type of work. Based on this, field management procedures and applications were developed.

  • As the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution arrives and the culture of contact-less was established due to the long-term COVID-19, the construction industry is striving to develop smart home services to expand the scope of information and communications technology (ICT) to provide convenience to residents. However, various defects are occurring in information and communications technology facilities in apartments, and related research is lacking. In this study, case studies and research methods of related prior studies are analyzed as a basis for identifying the types and causes of defects that occur in information and communications technology facilities. To analyze various studies, we divided them into studies on smart home Internet of Things (IoT), information and communications technology construction of apartments, and investigated their features and limitations. Plus, future research will be conducted on apartments within 10 years of completion among apartments completed by domestic construction companies to supplement the limitations of prior research. In addition, we will prepare basic data on defects of ICT construction by analyzing the major causes of defect types through the analysis of defect types and frequency by detailed work type of information and communications technology construction.
