The use of PBD(prefabricated band drain)far ground improvement is rapidly increased due to the merit of construction period and cost, environmental preservation compared with other vertical drain method, and the development of material. This paper presents the historical review, theoretical background, design procedure and method, and typical construction example for the PBD. Also, the direction of further technical development and study is recommended.

The numbers of geogrid-reinforced walls are widely used in Korea. This papers present the results of two failure case histories of geogrid-reinforced segmental retaining walls. The geological background of the construction sites, detailed construction sequences, and the amount of rainfall were examined. The failure of these reinforced walls are caused by the improper drainage system and foundation treatment, too sharpened curvature of corner work, and too high height of wall.

The study background is that Mo-Jung happens as the produce of the agricultural society but it is not easy to find it beside Ho-nam area. Because of this, it results construction has. Mo-Jung construction has the meaning of vernacular construction reflecting the meaning of village community intensively as an element comprising the village, and the territory of Mo-Jung space is revealed as the male space. 2. The economic wealth of the village community and the image reflecting the community sense are stood out. 3. Taliesin West is a meaningful historic site in architecture field, because its place had still been existing only one in the world as a ideal architectural community for working and living as well as learning by doing for Taliesin Fellowships and others based on F. L. Wright's idea of Organic Architecture. The main purpose of this study was to follow up the architectural thought and its construction shown in F. L. Wright's 'Taliesin West'. A study on the key notes are as follows; 1) The key-clue of the construction background for Taliesin West was based on the project of 'Complex Campus Building' which was early planed by F. L. Wright. 2) A basic design idea for Taliesin West was admiring from its own site characters as well as the Experimental construction methods and materials. 3) Design motive of Taliesin West was based on American Indian's movable shelter which called 'Tepee.' 4) A construction of F. L. Wright's temporary studio, Ocotilla, was a good opportunity to construct for Taliesin West which construction methods, covered and framed, were same as Ocotilla. 5) A concept idea of the master plan for Taliesin West came from combining Taliesin's Hillside Home School and Complex Campus Building project. 6) Construction of Taliesin West was a final accomplished place as F. L. Wright's utopia architecture and community.

On account of Indoor Air Quality(IAQ) deterioration by reason of high isulation and air tightness for energy saving, absence of energy efficiency ventilation system development that can be domestic existing window system, the cost increase and the energy addition loss by mechanical ventilation for IAQ improvement the ventilation obligation making design standard was prepared by a social and technical background and the necessity. In this study, open module type natural ventilation window system for energy saving included a fixed and continuous quantity ventilation was developed. This article described the production problems, import conditions of organic livestock products and background of CODEX-guideline, and presented the counterplan for future organic livestock production policy. The paper describes creation methods of background scenes to implement realistic virtual environments in the VRSS (Virtual Reality Ship Simulator). VRSS is next-generation system constructed with virtual tools in a virtual space. Thus, it could have many benefits compared to conventional ship simulators composed with heavy bridge mock-up system and wide visual presentations. In this work, we developed effective 3D object modeling techniques, and constructed virtual harbor scene by using 3D-Webmaster authoring tool. The virtual harbor was built with object-oriented 3D objects modeled to interact with user's action. With the immersion-type VR system, we created virtual harbor environments in a virtual space, and discussed on the naturalness of the scene with test results of SDMPA (Semantic Differential Method for Psychophysical Assessment) by 10 subjects. As the results of subject assessment, all of the participants could felt natural-like harbor. Therefore, we found that the proposed creation methods and procedures of background scene are enabling to fit to the full mission VRSS construction.

This case study aimed to explore proficient EFL readers' perceptions and experiences about reading tasks and how those perceptions and experiences influence their reading processing behaviors, and to examine how the cultural background of a text affects their reading strategies and comprehension. Three college students who were non-English majors participated in this study. Three data sources were employed: questionnaires, interviews, and think-alouds. The results showed that: (1) the participants emphasized comprehension as the goal of reading and considered themselves good EFL readers; (2) their reading purposes were closely associated with personal pursuits; (3) they preferred to read materials that deal with areas of interest but did not try to take a risk in terms of level of difficulty and/or length; (4) they implemented a multistrategic approach to reading in that the majority of their strategy use was in conjunction with their concern about meaning construction; (5) they were able to develop useful understandings of unknown vocabulary; and (6) their clear awareness of the cultural background presupposed in the text helped them invoke prior knowledge and reduce unknown vocabulary hindrances which contributed to comprehension. Pedagogical implications for EFL reading instruction are provided.
