  • Two methods were developed for analyzing problems with two adjacent sub-domains modeled by different kinds of elements in finite element method. Each sub-domain can be defined independently without the consideration of equivalent division with common nodes used for the interface. These two methods employ an individual interface to accomplish the compatibility. The MLSA method uses the moving least square approximation which is the basic formulation for Element Free Galerkin Method to formulate the interface. The displacement field assumed by this method does not pass through nodes on the common boundary. Therefore, nodes can be chosen freely for this method. The results show that the MLSA method has better approximation than traditional methods.

  • A common form of construction for apartment buildings consists of walls and coupling element. But, the structural behavior of coupling element are very complex and affected by the properties of coupling element. The propose of this paper is to evaluation the behavior of coupling element in wall-dominant system. An 1/2 scale three specimens was constructed and under cyclic loads. The specimen was consisted of opening walls and coupling element as well as floor slabs. From the result of this study, in coupling slabs, the stresses were not uniform across the width. And the effective width of coupling slabs was found smaller than the that of predicted from previous studies.

  • The essential idea of the element-free Galerkin method (EFG) is that moving least-squares (MLS) approximation are used for the trial and test functions with the variational principle (weak form). By using the weighted orthogonal basis function to construct the MLS interpolants, we derive the formulae for an improved element-free Galerkin (IEFG) method for solving three-dimensional problems in linear elasticity. There are fewer coefficients in improved moving least-squares (IMLS) approximation than in MLS approximation. Also fewer nodes are selected in the entire domain with the IEFG method than is the case with the conventional EFG method. In this paper, we selected a few example problems to demonstrate the applicability of the method.

  • Cable supported structures have been widely used in civil engineering. Cable tension estimation has great importance in cable supported structures' analysis, ranging from design to construction and from inspection to maintenance. Even though the Bernoulli-Euler beam element is commonly used in the traditional finite element method for calculation of frequency and cable tension estimation, many elements must be meshed to achieve accurate results, leading to expensive computation. To improve the accuracy and efficiency, a dynamic finite element method for estimation of cable tension is proposed. In this method, following the dynamic stiffness matrix method, frequency-dependent shape functions are adopted to derive the stiffness and mass matrices of an exact beam element that can be used for natural frequency calculation and cable tension estimation. An iterative algorithm is used for the exact beam element to determine both the exact natural frequencies and the cable tension. Illustrative examples show that, compared with the cable tension estimation method using the conventional beam element, the proposed method has a distinct advantage regarding the accuracy and the computational time.

  • Recently, the expansion of roads are necessary because the population and vehicles have rapidly increased, but those are restricted because of the limited site. JES(Jointed Element Structure) method is the method of the new cross-structure, which is element-traction method which draws and excavates elements under the existing structure with high accuracy within a short time. Also JES(Jointed Element Structure) method has a facility of the economical execution, a small effect on the train-service during construction period and no limit of the crossing length under the trade In this study, the tractive force and settlement are compared with the upper element, side wall element and the lower element respectively in the section which the JES method is applied In the case of element located at left side wall, the tractive force measured by a guage is double or more than the tractive force calculated by a formula. It is expected that many boulder contented in the ground contrary to the site investigation data cause high tractive force. For comparison of the settlement, the settlement as excavating the upper element is the largest in all steps. It is expected that this is the same as the cause of high tractive force. Also in this study, the practical use of the JES method when some under pass structures are extended in the future is studied.

  • This study is as to payment improvement method of additional incidental cost to be occurred upon extension of public construction time. According to the result of analysis about the cause of non-payment of additional incidental cost of construction time extension through site examples, it was found that difficulties exist in disputes & proofing over the scope of actual cost recognition, and in this regard the result of experts opinion indicated that a construction extension pre-agreement system can be executed which agrees the scope of recognition of additional incidental cost of construction time extension once the statistical standard is clear and accurate. Accordingly, in this study, by totalling multiple sites data, calculations were implemented in terms of type of construction projects, amount of constructions, period of constructions. According to the result of calculation, the element of type of construction project and construction period appears to have none direct effect to the occurrence of additional cost of construction time extension, but direct relationship was indicated related to the contract amount element. In view of above, in this study a standard additional incidental cost of construction time extension was proposed, and presented a system improvement plan to implement the construction extension pre-agreement system.

  • Construction industry is based on receiving an order. So, it has a special feature that market and manufacture activity is formed by a user. For this reason, it has a great influence on other industry compare construction industry with other industry. Specially when build public structure as infrastructure, importance of owner is emphasized then private construction because the primary role of owner have a great effect on national finance. Inspite of that, the importance of a faculty and role of an owner and an ordering organ, it is weak that a study about objective and meaningful evaluation of the specially, common standard and ability of public ordering organ as a major user of domestic construction industry. So, this study define the evaluation sphere and an element of an ordering ability for develop an ordering ability evaluation guide which can evaluate objective ability of an ordering organ. Apply its evaluation sphere and element, judge a standard of an owner, thought the judgement, it can judge accurately of short ability and if it can make future oriented strategy, it can elevate the efficiency of an owner organization management.

  • Underground environmental infrastructure and energy production facilities, which are recognized as avoidable facilities such as landfills, are emerging as an important social issue due to urbanization and economic growth. It is necessary to analyze the stability according to various ground conditions and load conditions for the construction of large-scale underground complex plants. In this paper, horizontal/vertical displacement and stress distribution according to the load condition and construction process were analyzed using finite element analysis (FEM), Based on the analysis results of various conditions, factors to be considered in the detailed design and construction of the underground complex plant were reviewed and the implications on design factors (Intermediate wall installation status, Pre-reinforcing area, etc.) for underground large space construction were derived.

  • In construction, the outcome of work depends on the leadership of the project manager, and as a result this has been emerging as an important factor. The purpose of this study is to analyze the main elements of leadership that are essential for project managers, and to rank these elements in order of importance. In this study, leadership and its elements are reviewed through reviewing the literature, and the main elements and their relative importance for project managers were analyzed through questionnaire survey of project managers, contractor engineers, and subcontractor engineers. Through this survey, it was found that the project manager's leadership had a significant influence on the success of a construction project, and this study revealed that the key elements of leadership for project manager could be ranked in the order of resolution, responsibility, and reliance.

  • This study was conducted to draw various decisive elements of a reasonable heat curing method and to examine the importance in deciding a construction method when constructing cold weather concrete. As a result, the items proposed as important elements at the time of decision of a heat curing method included economy, workability, maintainability, insulation capability, reduced construction period and usability. As a result of importance by items under AHP technique, it was found the most important element was insulation capability, followed by reduced construction period and workability. As a result of comparison of a heat supplying and a heat insulation method by dual bubble sheet differed 2 times as much as a heat supplying method, especially the evaluation degree by insulation capability and reduced construction period was high.
