신속개방형 콘크리트 도로포장재의 설계를 위한 평가 연구(2) (A Study on Evaluation of High Early Strength Concrete as Pavement Overlay Materials for Early Traffic Opening(2))

  • In road Pavements, it is known that cement concrete pavement has superior durability, safety compared with asphalt pavement. But in repairing pavement, cement concrete pavement is not usually applied because of the length of time while the road is interrupted when using Ordinary and Rapid-hardening Portland Cement. And Super High Early Strength Cement and Ultra Super High Early Strength Cement are not favorable for ready mixed concrete because of rapid setting time, high slump loss and other restrictions. We aim to develope special cement and concrete developing 1 day strength of over 300 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ to open the road within one day and workable time is maintained over 1 hour that can be used as ready mixed concrete. In this study, we produced cement using rapid-hardening cement, Hauyne clinker, anhydride gypsum and accelerator and studied on its properties. The comperssive strength was over 400 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and tensile at 1 day and workable time was maintained for over 1 hour.

Effect of Moisture Loss on Development of Distresses in Concrete Pavements

  • Evaporation of concrete influences the development of both initial transverse cracking and delamination in the concrete slab. It was suggested that spatting distress might develop in the slab where the initial transverse cracking occurred by theoretical equations and a field investigation. Thus, efforts to prevent the evaporation of concrete using proper curing methods are required to minimize the distresses of the slabs. Effective curing thickness (ECT) concept was used in this paper to evaluate various curing methods used to prevent the evaporation from concrete. Curing effectiveness quantified by the ECT of different types and amounts of curing compound under various curing conditions was investigated based on the results of laboratory tests. According to the test results, the wind speed is inferred to be a significant factor of the magnitude and continuance duration of the curing effectiveness.

접착식 콘크리트 덧씌우기를 위한 초속경화 첨가재 현장 혼합 폴리머 개질 콘크리트의 적용성 연구 (Application of In-Situ Mixing Hydration Accelerator on Polymer Modified Concrete for Bonded Concrete Overlay)

  • PURPOSES : Recently, bonded concrete overlay has been used as an alternative solution in concrete pavement rehabilitation since its material properties are similar to those of the existing concrete pavements. Deteriorated concrete pavements need rapid rehabilitation in order to prevent traffic jams on Korean expressways. Moreover, speedy and effective repair methods are required. Therefore, the use of bonded concrete overlay with ultra-rapid hardening cement has increased in an effort to reopen promptly the expressways in Korea. However, mobile mixer is required for ultra-rapid hardening cement concrete mixing in the construction site. The use of mobile mixer causes various disadvantages aforementioned such as limitation of the construction supply, open-air storage of mixing materials, increase in construction cost, and etc. In this study, therefore, hydration accelerator in-situ mixing on polymer modified concrete produced in concrete plant is attempted in order to avoid the disadvantages of existing bonded concrete overlay method using ultra-rapid hardening cement. METHODS : Bonded concrete overlay materials using ultra-rapid hardening cement should be meet all the requirements including structural characteristics, compatibility, durability for field application. Therefore, This study aimed to evaluate the application of hydration accelerator in-situ mixing on polymer modified concrete by evaluating structural characteristics, compatibility, durability and economic efficiency for bonded concrete overlay. RESULTS : Test results of structural characteristics showed that the compressive, flexural strength and bond strength were exceed 21MPa, 3.15MPa and 1.4MPa, respectively, which are the target strengths of four hours age for the purpose of prompt traffic reopening. In addition, tests of compatibility, such as drying shrinkage, coefficient of thermal expansion and modulus of elasticity, and durability (chloride ions penetration resistance, freezing-thawing resistance, scaling resistance, abrasion resistance and crack resistance), showed that the hydration accelerator in-situ mixing on polymer modified concrete were satisfied the required criteria. CONCLUSIONS : It was known that the hydration accelerator in-situ mixing on polymer modified concrete overlay method was applicable for bonded concrete overlay and was a good alternative method to substitute the existing bonded concrete overlay method since structural characteristics, compatibility, durability were satisfied the criteria and its economic efficiency was excellent compare to the existing bonded concrete overlay methods.

  • Utilization of mine waste rocks and tailings in concrete as aggregates will help in sustainable and greener development. The literature shows the potential use of iron ore tailings as a replacement of natural fine aggregates. As natural sand reserves are depleting day by day, there is a need for substitution for sand in concrete. A comprehensive overview of the published literature on the use of iron ore waste and tailings and other industrial waste in concrete is being presented. The effect of various properties such as workability, compressive strength, split tensile strength, flexural strength, durability and microstructure of concrete have been presented in this paper.

Dynamic Analysis of Asphalt Concrete Pavement Structure

  • A new solution for the dynamic analysis of as asphalt concrete pavements under moving loads has been developed. The asphalt concrete pavement can be modeled in elastic or viscoelastic medium of multi-layered structure. The subgrade can be modeled as either a rigid base or a semi-infinite halfspace. The loads may be constant or arbitrary circular loads into one direction. The method utilizes the Complex Response Method of transient analysis with a continuum solution in the horizontal direction and a finite-element solution in the vertical direction. This proposed method incorporates such important factors as wave propagation, inertia and damping effects of the medium as well as frequency-dependent asphalt concrete properties. The proposed method has been validted with the full-scale field truck test, which was conducted on instrumented asphalt concrete section on a test track at PACCAR Technical Center in Mount Vernon, Washington. Comparison with field strain data from full-scale pavement tests has shown excellent agreement.   • In this study the mechanical properties of various wire mesh reinforcing porous concrete mixtures are investigated. A properly designed porous concrete pavements provides a durable riding surface. It also eliminates puddles and standing water, resulting in improved skid resistance. The most popular application is that of light-traffic volume roadways such as parking lots, resident roads, driveways, and sidewalks. Flexural strength and toughness index are examined for wire mesh reinforcing porous concrete. Type of Wire mesh is divided into three cases, A type, B type and C type. It shows A type is most excellent shape of destruction of slab specimen is similar to that of flexural specimen. The aim of this paper is to present the results of a pilot study undertaken to examine the extent to which wire mesh reinforced porous concrete can be used as a continuous paving materials.

투수성콘크리트포장의 현장적용에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Field Application Porous Concrete Pavement)

  • The present study has an objetive to define the characteristic of the Porous Concrete to be used in the resistant layers of the pavement. Up to the moment there is no material which is capable which is capable of satisfying the mechanical resistances and drainability, two characterstics which interves, and a detailled study has been carried out on the same order to obtain the porous concrete of this study. such as: Mode and time of compaction. type of cement, water/cement ratio, maxium size of aggregates, sieve test. incorporation of some additives and additions etc., among them emphasizing the use of a method of compaction vibro-compression in the laboratory with which an optimum compacting was reached, and can be obtanied on the site with a spreader rated with double tamper. With this porous concrete for this study whose dominating characteristics is the drainability jointly with a high mechanical resistance. a safe and silence firm is obtained, with can be a great diffusion in the near future, for its application on the pavements. Based on these works carried out, there was the first experience in the world of field application with 25cm of resistance layer of Porous Concrete Pavement in Salamanca, Spain.

공항 airside용 제설제의 기본물질에 대한 포장 영향성 평가 연구 (Pavement Impact Evaluation of Basic Materials of Airport Airside Deicers)

  • OBJECTIVES : This is a basic research for the domestic production of airport-airside deicers. This research selected basic materials for deicers appropriate for the pavement of domestic airports by evaluating the deicing performances of basic materials used in international-standard airport deicers and their impacts on pavements. METHODS : Laboratory investigation was conducted to evaluate the asphalt surface tensile strength, concrete scaling impact, ASR impact, and deicing performances of sodium formate (NaFm), potassium formate (KFm), sodium acetate (NaAc), and potassium acetate (KAc), which are the basic de-icing materials commonly used at international airports, approved by the FAA. In addition, the analyses were also performed on the airside deicer urea, which is currently used in domestic airports. RESULTS : Laboratory investigation confirmed that sodium formate, potassium formate, sodium acetate, and potassium acetate had superior surface tensile strength, concrete scaling impact, and deicing performance compared to airside urea, but they also had greater impacts on concrete ASR. Among these materials, sodium formate had the best asphalt surface tensile strength, concrete scaling impact, and deicing performance, while also having the greatest impact on ASR; hence, mitigation plans for ASR were needed, if it were to be used as airport-airside deicer. CONCLUSIONS : It is necessary to consider additional additives to prevent ASR of concrete pavements when developing airport-airside deicers using sodium formate, potassium formate, sodium acetate, and potassium acetate.

신설 프리캐스트 콘크리트 포장 시공방법 및 설계지침 개발 (Development of Construction Method and Design Guide for Newly Constructed Precast Concrete Pavements)

  • 본 연구는 프리캐스트 콘크리트 슬래브를 이용한 급속 신설 도로 포장 공법의 국내 적용성을 분석하기 위한 기초 연구를 수행하고 시험시공을 통해 선설 프리캐스트 포장의 설계 및 시공 지침을 개발하기 위하여 수행되었다. 시험시공을 위해 가로, 세로, 깊이가 각각 실제 포장 슬래브의 1/2 크기인 슬래브를 설계하여 제작하였으며 이에 적합한 철근배근, 종방향과 횡방향의 연결부, 그라우팅 방법 등에 대하여 분석을 수행하였다. 이러한 슬래브를 이용하여 종방향과 횡방향으로 두 개씩 총 4 개의 슬래브를 연결하여 평탄성을 조절한 후 포켓 부분과 슬래브 하부의 공간을 그라우팅 함으로써 시공을 신속 용이하게 수행하였다. 시험 시공을 수행하며 프리캐스트 포장의 설계 및 시공과 관련된 세부 사항을 면밀히 분석하였으며 이에 바탕을 두어 프리캐스트 슬래브를 이용하여 급속하게 신설 도로를 건설할 때의 설계 및 시공 지침을 개발하였다.

줄눈 콘크리트포장 3차원 유한요소모델의 민간도 분석 (Sensitivity Analysis of 3-Dimensional FE Models for Jointed Concrete Pavements)

  • 본 논문은 AREA법을 사용하는 줄눈 콘크리트포장의 평가에 3차원 유한요소모델을 사용하는 경우 나타나는 특성을 조사하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 실제 콘크리트포장을 거동을 반영할 수 있는 3차원 유한요소모델을 구축하였고 2차원 모델과 비교한 후 민감도 분석을 수행하였다. ILLISLAB을 사용한 2차원 모델과 비교하였고 하중형태의 영향 보다 하중재하 지점의 자체수축과 기층모델에 따른 영향을 더 많이 받는 것으로 나타났다. 3차원 모델에서 비선형 온도구배를 선형 온도구배로 변화시키는 경우 발생하는 영향을 조사하였고 큰 차이를 보이지는 않았으나 지반 탄성계수가 작아질수록 더 많은 차이를 보였다. 동적하중에 의한 처짐을 구하였고 정적하중에 의한 처짐과 비교한 결과 낮은 지반 탄성계수에서는 동적하중에 의한 처짐이 작게 나타났으나 높은 지반 탄성계수에서는 동적하중에 의한 처짐이 크게 나타났다. 동적하중에 의한 처짐 이력을 구하고 AREA법을 이용하여 동적지지력과 탄성계수를 역산하였으며 이를 정적 처짐에 의한 결과와 비교하였다. 그 결과 동적지지력의 경우 정적 해석에 의한 값보다 동적해석에 의한 값이 낮게 나타났고 탄성계수의 경우 반대의 경향을 나타내어 현장에서 AREA법을 사용하는 경우 나타나는 평가결과의 특성을 설명하는 것으로 판단되었다.
