The Application and Analysis of the Embedded Programming Education Based on UML and LabVIEW OOP (UML과 LabVIEW OOP를 기반으로 한 내장형 프로그래밍 교육의 적용 방안 및 분석)

  • The students who learn the computer languages think it very difficult to program using the text-based programming languages and also to learn the object-oriented programming. Therefore, we introduce the object-oriented visual programming into the programming education. And, to solve the this problem in the programming education, in this paper, we introduce the UML to support the object-oriented modeling and to teach the students using the LabVIEW OOP that supports the object-oriented visual programming. And, we propose to apply it on the embedded programming education. Also, we analyze the educational effect of the proposed education methodology of programming based on the student survey.

A Study on the Achievement Goals of Computer Programming for Elementary students (초등학생들을 위한 컴퓨터 프로그래밍의 성취 기준에 관한 연구)

  • Information and knowledge society in the 21st century creativeness education is very important. The core of creativity education is software education that is to make something based on the creative thinking. Each country has already emphasizes software education. And Software education for elementary school students reflect the curriculum. Software education can be divided into four areas which are information, problem solving, algorithms, and programming. In this study, I propose criteria for the achievement of a computer program for elementary school students. The proposed criteria of programming education are fulfilled in other subjects curriculum of korea and other national software curriculum. This study is analyzed by the validity of the Delphi analysis of primary school teachers. The result of this study is that elementary school students when teaching computer programming that is very reasonable results.

The Scratch Programming Learning Attitude Effects of Scaffolding based Learning Strategy (스캐폴딩 기반 학습 전략이 스크래치 프로그래밍 학습태도에 미치는 영향)

  • Necessity of programming education is demanded according to more interested in importance of computer science. However, the existing programming education only focused on function for utilization of the commercial programs. The existing programming education doesn't meet the students' level and doesn't cause that they were interested in programming. Therefore, we applied the learning strategy based the scaffolding when we taught the scratch programming language in the elementary school and we studied the students' attitude towards programming learning. As a result, we found the good results about the general learning patterns, the performance satisfaction through learning and the interaction areas.

  • 본 논문에서는 블록 프로그래밍 언어를 선행조직자로 하여 텍스트 프로그래밍 언어를 학습하는 도구 활용 전략을 연구하였다. 텍스트 프로그래밍 언어는 파이썬이며, 블록 프로그래밍 언어는 엔트리, 활용하는 도구는 주피터 노트북으로 선정하였다. 주피터 노트북을 활용한 블록 프로그래밍 언어 선행조직자 학습 전략은 code cell에 IPython.display.IFrame 클래스를 활용하여 결과 창에 엔트리 작업환경을 불러와 선행조직자로 제시하여 엔트리를 학습 후 code cell에서 파이썬으로 학습한다. 주피터 노트북을 통해 블록 프로그래밍 언어를 선행조직자로 제시 후 텍스트 프로그래밍 언어를 제시함으로써 텍스트 프로그래밍 언어를 학습할 때 인지적 부담을 줄어들고 긍정적 전이가 일어나 효과적인 학습이 될 것으로 기대된다.

  • This paper proposes elementary robot programming problems using the algorithmic thinking-based problem model with material factors in the elementary robot programming. And this paper proves the validity of developed robot programming problems in defining them as algorithmic thinking-based problems through experiments. The experimental results are analyzed in views of variety and effectiveness evaluation of answer algorithms and suitability of allocating degrees of difficulties to the developed robot programming problems. As a result of the experiment, we find that the developed problems has various answer algorithms and suitable degrees of difficulties for elementary school students.

Meta-analysis of the programming learning effectiveness depending on the teaching and learning method

  • Recently, as the programming education has become essential in school, discussion of how to teach programming has been important. This study performed a meta-analysis of the effect size depending on the teaching and learning method for the programming education. 78 research data selected from 45 papers were analyzed from cognitive and affective aspects according to dependent variables. The analysis from the cognitive aspect showed that there was no statistically significant difference in the effect size depending on whether or not the teaching and learning method was specified in the research paper. Meta-analysis of the research data where the teaching and learning method was designated displayed significances in CPS, PBL and Storytelling. Unlike the cognitive aspect, the analysis from the affective aspect showed that the effect size of the research data without the specified teaching and learning method was larger than those with specified teaching and learning method with a statistical significance. Meta-analysis of the data according to the teaching and learning method displayed no statistical significance. Based upon these research results, this study suggested implications for the effective programming education.

A Study on Design and Implementation of a Programming Teaching Model Using Emotional Intelligence

  • In this paper, we design a programming education model that uses emotional intelligence and apply the model to programming education in elementary school. In our previous work, we found that there is a meaningful correlation between emotional intelligence and programming ability. In this paper, as a follow-up study, we design a programming education model based on a storytelling model and emotional intelligence. In order to test the performance of the proposed model, we applied our proposed model to the 5th grade elementary school students who have no programming experience. Based on extensive survey work and statistical analysis, we found that the experimental group by the programming education using the emotional intelligence got a statistically significant higher achievement than the comparative group by the traditional programming education. We hope that our model will be helpful in programming education in schools.

The Effect of Physical Computing Programming Education Integrating Artificial Intelligence on Computational Thinking Ability of Elementary School Students

  • In the era of the information revolution, the need for artificial intelligence convergence education is emerging in the trend of global change. Therefore, in this paper, a physical computing programming education method that combines artificial intelligence was developed and applied. The control group was provided with physical computing programming education that did not converge with artificial intelligence, and the experimental group developed and applied a physical computing programming education method that fused artificial intelligence to analyze the impact on elementary school students' computing thinking ability. As a result, it was confirmed that physical computing programming education fused with artificial intelligence had a more positive effect on enhancing elementary school students' computational thinking skills compared to physical computing programming education without artificial intelligence.

The Effect of Learning Scratch Programming on Students' Motivation and Problem Solving Ability (스크래치 프로그래밍 학습이 학습자의 동기와 문제해결력에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper propose to use a new educational programming language, Scratch, to help students' programming study. For this purpose, a course has been developed which consists of (1) strategies to motivate students and (2) Creative Problem Solving (CPS) teaching model to improve their problem solving abilities. We experimented the course with sixth-grade elementary students for 4 weeks and we could observe that the Scratch programming learning helps motivating students and improving their problem solving abilities. Based on this observation, we believe that Scratch programming can be an alternative for current programming education in elementary schools.

  • Recently, robot programming education are suggested for elementary students. However, the degree of class participation of female students was low because of the failure of the recognition of female students' inclination when they chose contents and instructional strategies. Thus, this paper analyzed the gender differences of interests of elementary students have in robot programming through questionnaire and suggested the robot programming instructional strategies considered gender differences through reviewing literature in such areas as gender differences in computer learning and programming learning, and effective instructional strategies. Furthermore, the validity of the instructional strategies which are suggested was verified by experts. Through this research, the researcher expects for the researcher findings to be bases for a more active participation of female students in computer field.
