Application Plan of Flip Learning Using Practical Instruction in Algorithm Theory (알고리즘 이론과목에서 실기수업을 적용한 플립러닝 활용방안)

  • Recently, the rapid development and development of the industrial environment has changed the talent that companies need. As the educational paradigm changes, the university education should complement the problems of the lecture education method (the existing knowledge transfer method) in order to cultivate the talents needed for the corporation. In order to improve self - directed and creative problem - solving ability, new teaching and learning methods are needed. In this study, we apply flip learning in the algorithm class which is an essential curriculum of computer engineering. This group is divided into groups that are combined with theoretical and practical lessons, and groups that have applied theoretical lessons by applying flip learning, and groups that employ traditional lecture techniques. To improve learner's learning motivation and academic achievement, we propose a flip learning teaching method suitable for the algorithm subject and apply it directly to the class. Based on the results, we compare and analyze the academic achievement and learning satisfaction of learners.

Dynamic Per-Branch History Length Fitting for High-Performance Processor (고성능 프로세서를 위한 분기 명령어의 동적 History 길이 조절 기법)

  • Branch prediction accuracy is critical for the overall system performance. Branch miss-prediction penalty is the one of the significant performance limiters for improving processor performance, as the pipeline deepens and the instruction issued per cycle increases. In this paper, we propose "Dynamic Per-Branch History Length Fitting Method" by tracking the data dependencies among the register writing instructions. The proposed solution first identifies the key branches, and then it selectively uses the histories of the key branches. To support this mechanism, we provide a history length adjustment algorithm and a required hardware module. As the result of simulation, the proposed mechanism outperforms the previous fixed static method, up to 5.96% in prediction accuracy. Furthermore, our method introduces the performance improvement, compared to the profiled results which are generally considered as the optimal ones.

  • For the performance upgrade of a supersonic jet fighter, the processor and FLCC(Flight Control Computer) Architecture were upgraded from a baseline FLCC. Prior to the hardware implementation phase, the exact CPU throughput estimation is necessary. For this purpose, an experimental method for new FLCC throughput estimation was introduced in this study. While baseline FLCC operating, the CPU address bus was collected with logic analyzer, and then decoded to get the exact access times to each memory-memory and the number of program Instruction branches. Based on these data, a throughput test in CPU demo-board of the new FLCC configuration was performed. From test results, the CPU-Memory architecture was design-changed before FLCC hardware implementation phase. To check the flight stability degradation due to power-interrupt problem due to CPU-Memory architecture change, the piloted HILS (Hardware-In-the Loop Simulator) test was conducted.

A Study on the Pixel-Parallel Usage Processing Using the Format Converter (포맷 변환기를 이용한 화소-병렬 화상처리에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper we implemented various image processing filtering using the format converter. This design method is based on realized the large processor-per-pixel array by integrated circuit technology. These two types of integrated structure are can be classify associative parallel processor and parallel process DRAM (or SRAM) cell. Layout pitch of one-bit-wide logic is Identical memory cell pitch to array high density PEs in integrate structure. This format converter design has control path implementation efficiently, and can be utilize the high technology without complicated controller hardware. Sequence of array instruction are generated by host computer before process start, and instructions are saved on unit controller. Host computer is executed the pixel-parallel operation starting at saved instructions after processing start. As a result, we obtained three result that 1) simple smoothing suppresses higher spatial frequencies, reducing noise but also blurring edges, 2) a smoothing and segmentation process reduces noise while preserving sharp edges, and 3) median filtering may be applied to reduce image noise. Median filtering eliminates spikes while maintaining sharp edges and preserving monotonic variations in pixel values.

  • The web, which is most actively used in the internet environment, is changing educational system. Students usually prefer the interactive and multimedia learning aids based on web applications and web media to static web pages. The former is known to enhance the effectiveness of learning. This paper proposes a study system which involves effective adaptation to the various changing factors of learners' progress and the corresponding automated evaluation system. Conventional evaluation utilizes normalized method, where the learning objectives generally set by the instructors or educational operators/administrators are usually pursued rather than the interest of the individual learners, which is not ideal for the computer-based learning. Web-based project-oriented learning system provokes the mutual participations among the users, operators, and administrators in understanding the jobs to be performed and the effort to enhance the progressive developments of knowledge and application capabilities. In this Paper, an automated evaluation system is implemented, where the instructors and web-operators/administrators work as hosts for education. The learners take advantage of user-oriented comparative learning and pattern design. The design and implementation of the project-oriented evaluation methods performed in the internet/intranet environments are discussed.

A Study on the Effect of Flipped Class by Analysis of Programming Achievement (프로그래밍 성취도 분석을 통한 플립드 수업 효과에 대한 고찰)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the effectiveness of the flipped class by comparing Python programming classes divided into flipped class and general class. The participants who participated in each class had 36 students, so that they could participate in the class without knowing the difference of the class method. The students's academic achievement was applied the two groups with similar test items, and then the overall achievement were compared. The analysis showed that the achievements in flipped class in the basic grammar and intermediate grammar were higher than those in the general class. As a result of gender achievement analysis, there was no effect on the type of instruction. However, male student were generally higher in academic achievement. In conclusion, flipped class in the programming is a good way to improve students' understanding.

  • The instruction based on mass production system has contributed to the materialistic abundance, but it caused the innate target of education, development of 'holistic human beings' to be lost. Accordingly, the mentoring has been highlighted as an alternative instructional method because it can support learners in the aspect of cognitive and affective domain. On the other hand, as an effort of overcoming time and place constraints of face-to-face mentoring, e-mentoring is being required. This research aims to propose the e-mentoring system design plan for guiding learning after school, which may support face-to-face mentoring. Based on literature reviews, the direction of design was set and the necessary functions were drawn. e-Mentoring system design plan proposed in this article may be helpful to practitioners who are interested in the enhancement of effectiveness and efficiency of mentoring programs. Also it is required that more practical study should be performed for developing the system and testing its effectiveness.

  • We consider a Direct Input Output Manufacturing System(DIOMS) which has a munber of machine centers placed along a built-in Automated Storage/Retrieval System(AS/RS). The Storage/Retrieval (S/R) machine handles parts placed on pallets for the operational aspect of DIOMS and determines the optimal operating policy by combining computer simulation and genetic algorithm. The operational problem includes: input sequencing control, dispatching rule of the S/R machine, machine center-based part type selection rule, and storage assignment policy. For each operating policy, several different policies are considered based on the known research results. In this paper, using the computer simulation and genetic algorithm we suggest a method which gives the optimal configuration of operating policies within reasonable computation time.

  • Maker Activity based Design-Thinking 5 Step is a better experience for providing the public with a better approach to design by sympathizing with human needs and exploring the public's potential desires. This paper studied the teaching method by applying the value of the Maker Training that emphasizes the importance of sharing and opening results with others after creating them based on the ideas of the learners using different tools, the basic mind of Design-Thinking with the observation and empathy about human beings and the derivation of user-centric results to the SW coding curriculum. For this purpose, we studied teaching methods by Design-thinking based on sections that require coding in the information classes of the secondary school curriculum. We demonstrated the class to a group of education experts by applying the syllabus of instruction. Then we collected evaluations and opinions of the experts and we modified the syllabus to reflect the collected assessment. Under the Design-thinking 5 step foundation, classes were demonstrated with a group of education experts, opinions collected, and suggestions collected were reflected on the assessment outcome. I think that It is an effective training opportunity to practice a widespread idea that enables infinite thinking and a convergence of thinking that brings out the best decision from a widespread idea.
