  • Spray visualization and computer simulation of a DME injector have been conducted to investigate the enlarged injection hole diameter effect. To increase the reliability of the computational result, simulation results have been compared with the visualization test results, and the behaviors of a DME spray under various high-pressure and -temperature conditions have been computed. This study shows a discrepancy of 3.57% between the experimental and the computational results of penetration length for an injection pressure of 35 MPa and ambient pressure of 5 MPa. When simulating the engine conditions, the maximum penetration length of a fully developed DME spray is 42 mm when the temperature to pressure ratio is 300 K/MPa. The DME spray behavior is dominantly affected by the ambient pressure under the condition that the ratio is less than 300 K/MPa, and by the ambient temperature under the condition that the ratio is more than 300 K/MPa.

  • The swept volume, the region of a moving object, is applied in many fields such as valid paths for motions of tools, visualization in robot paths and interference tests for parts assembling or disjointing. The shape of a swept volume depends on an generators computed with normal vectors of an object and velocity vectors of a motion. Although free-from surfaces are widely used to represent geometric models in CAD, computing the generators for a free-form object is a formidable task. Previous approaches exploit the closed form expressions of generators but limited to planer or quadric faces. In this paper, we propose the algorithm to compute swept volumes generated by free-form objects in screw motions. For the algorithm a tracing method is applied to the computation of generators. It considers curvatures of surfaces of an object to increase the computational accuracy. We implemented our algorithm in the CATIA V.5 environment to test the validity of our algorithm and to generate examples.

  • A numerical simulation of an incompressible cavity flow is conducted using the hybrid turbulence model. The model adopted is a modified type of DES using k- ε two-equation model. Cavity geometry and flow condition are based on Cattafesta's experiment. Computational results are compared with the results of Cattafesta's experiment. The simulation successfully predicts the oscillatory features and the Strouhal number of the oscillation compares very favorably with that of the dominant mode of experimental data. Vorticity contours obtained from the simulation data are consistent with the smoke visualization of the Cattafesta's experiment. The coherent structures of cavity flow are also investigated using Q criterion.

  • This paper describes the volumetric data modeling and analysis methods that employ volumetric NURBS or VNURBS that represents heterogeneous objects or fields in multidimensional space. For volumetric data modeling, we formulate the construction algorithms involving the scattered data approximation and the curvilinear grid data interpolation. And then the computational algorithms are presented for the geometric and mathematical analysis of the volume data set with the VNURBS model. Finally, we apply the modeling and analysis methods to various field applications including grid generation, flow visualization, implicit surface modeling, and image morphing. Those application examples verify the usefulness and extensibility of our VNUBRS representation in the context of volume modeling and analysis.

  • A computational study of supersonic flow around lateral jet controlled missile has been performed. For this study, three dimensional Navier-Stokes code(AADL3D) has been developed. Spalart-Allmaras one equation turbulence model has been implemented on the AADL3D code for relatively rapid computational time. For the validation of developed code, AADL3D, pressure distributions on an ogive-cylinder body has been compared with experimental data. Also, the shock structure of sonic jet on the flat plate in the supersonic flow field has been compared with experimental flow visualization result to see the analysis capability of freestream-jet interaction case. A case study has been performed through comparing the normal force coefficient and the moment coefficient of missile body for several jet flow conditions. Current results will be used to the optimum design of a lateral jet controlled missile.

  • Recently, the visualization method of social network service have been only focusing on presentation of visualizing network data, which the methods do not consider an efficient processing speed and computational complexity for increasing at the ratio of arithmetical of a big data regarding social networks. This paper proposes a cloud based on visualization method to visualize a user focused hierarchy relationship between user's nodes on social network. The proposed method can intuitionally understand the user's social relationship since the method uses fuzzy to represent a hierarchical relationship of user nodes of social network. It also can easily identify a key role relationship of users on social network. In addition, the method uses hadoop and hive based on cloud for distributed parallel processing of visualization algorithm, which it can expedite the big data of social network.

  • Experimental and computational studies were performed to determine the effects of different blade designs on a flow pattern inside a double-spindle counter rotating mower deck. In the experimental study, two different blade models were tested by measuring air velocities using a forward-scatter LDV system. The velocity measurements were taken at several different azimuth and axial sections inside the deck. The measured velocity distributions clarified the air flow pattern caused by the rotating blades and demonstrated the effects of deck and blade designs. A high-speed video camera and a sound level meter were used for flow visualization and noise level measurement. In the computational works, two-dimensional blade shapes at several arbitrary radial sections have been selected for flow computations around the blade model. For three-dimensional computation applied a non-inertia coordinate system, a flow field around the entire three-dimensional blade shape is used to evaluate flow patterns in order to take radial flow interactions into account. The computational results were compared with the experimental results.

  • The rapid development of neural network technology promotes the neural network model driven by big data to overcome the texture effect of complex objects. Due to the limitations in complex scenes, it is necessary to establish custom template matching and apply it to the research of many fields of computational vision technology. The dependence on high-quality small label sample database data is not very strong, and the machine learning system of deep feature connection to complete the task of texture effect inference and speculation is relatively poor. The style transfer algorithm based on neural network collects and preserves the data of patterns, extracts and modernizes their features. Through the algorithm model, it is easier to present the texture color of patterns and display them digitally. In this paper, according to the texture effect reasoning of custom template matching, the 3D visualization of the target is transformed into a 3D model. The high similarity between the scene to be inferred and the user-defined template is calculated by the user-defined template of the multi-dimensional external feature label. The convolutional neural network is adopted to optimize the external area of the object to improve the sampling quality and computational performance of the sample pyramid structure. The results indicate that the proposed algorithm can accurately capture the significant target, achieve more ablation noise, and improve the visualization results. The proposed deep convolutional neural network optimization algorithm has good rapidity, data accuracy and robustness. The proposed algorithm can adapt to the calculation of more task scenes, display the redundant vision-related information of image conversion, enhance the powerful computing power, and further improve the computational efficiency and accuracy of convolutional networks, which has a high research significance for the study of image information conversion.

  • Aerodynamic characteristics of Coleoptera species of Epilachna quadricollis and Allomyrina dichotoma are experimentally and numerically investigated. Using digital high speed camera and smoke wire technique, we visualized the continuous wing kinematics and the flight motion of free-flying coleoptera. The experimental visualization shows that the elytra flapped concurrently with the main wing both in the downstroke and upstroke motions. The wing motion of Epilachna quadricollis was captured and analyzed frame by frame to identify the kinematics of the wings and to implement it in the movement of a model wing (thin plate) in the simulation. The two-dimensional simulation of Epilachna quadricollis hovering flight was performed by assuming the wing cross section shape as a thin plate, even though most of insect's wings are made of curved corrugated membrane. The effect of Reynolds number are investigated by the simulation. Meanwhile, in order to investigate the role and effect of elytra, the flow visualization of Allomyrina dichotoma was carried on using smoke wire visualization technique. Here, we confirmed that the vortex generated by elytra due to its movement is strongly influence the vortex dynamic generated by hind wings.

  • The paper presents computational and flow visualization results on a centrifugal blood pump. 4 impeller designs were tested at a rotational speed of 2000 rpm using blood analog as working fluid. All impellers have seven blades but of different geometry (Impellers A3, A4, B2 and R7). Flow visualization within the impeller passages was conducted using an image de-rotation system. A pair of large scale vortices was found within the blades of impeller R7 while a single vortex was found in most of the passages of backward facing impellers (Impellers A3, A4 and B2). To establish the effects of blade geometry on blood cells, CFD was used to simulate the blade to blade flow to provide an estimate of the maximum shear stress. The results showed that though most of the stresses within the blade passages are below a threshold level of 150 N/m$^2$for extensive erythrocyte damage to occur, there are some regions near to the leading edge of the pressure side where the shear stresses a abode threshold level.
