Equations of motion of thin-walled composite H-type cross-section beams incorporating a number of nonclassical effects of transverse shear and primary and secondary warping, and anisotropy of constituent materials are derived. The vibrational characteristics of a composite thin-walled beam exhibiting the circumferentially asymmetric stiffness system(CAS) and the circumferentially uniform stiffness system(CUS) are exploited in connection with the bending-transverse shear coupling and the bending-twist coupling resulting from directional properties of fiber reinforced composite materials.

Equations of motion of thin-walled composite H-type cross-section beams exposed to concentrated harmonic and non-harmonic time-dependent external excitations, incorporating a number of nonclassical effects of transverse shear, primary and secondary warping, and anisotropy of constituent materials are derived. The forced vibration response characteristics of a composite H-type cross-section beam exhibiting the circumferentially asymmetric stiffness(CAS) configuration are exploited in connection with the structural bending-torsion coupling resulting from directional properties of fiber reinforced composite materials.

The dynamic characteristics of delaminated smart composite laminates are studied using animproved layerwise laminate theory. The theory is capable of capturing interlaminar shear stresses that are critical to delamination. The presence of discrete delamination is modeled through the use of Heaviside unit step functions. Stress free boundary conditions are enforced at all free surfaces. Continuity in displacement field and transverse shear stresses are enforced at each ply level. In modeling piezoelectric composite plates, a coupled piezoelectric-mechanical formulation is used in the development of the constitutive equations. Numerical analysis is conducted to investigate the effect of nonlinearity in the transient vibration of bimodular behavior caused by the contact impact of delaminated interfaces. Composite plates with delamination, subject to external loads and voltage history from surface bonded sensors, are investigated and the results are compared with corresponding experimental results and plates without delamination.

The centrifugal force acting on a rotating disk creates the in-plane loads in radial and circumferential directions. Application of fiber reinforced composite materials to the rotating disk can satisfy the demand for the increment of its rotating speed. However, the existing researches have been confined to lamina disks. This paper deals with the stress and vibration analysis of rotating laminated composite disks. The maximum strain theory for failure criterion is applied to determine the strength of the laminate disk from which the maximum allowable speed is obtained. Dynamic equation is formulated in order to calculate the natural frequency and critical speed for rotating laminated disks. The Galerkin method is applied to obtain the series solution. The numerical results are given for the cross-ply laminated composite disks.

A study of the bending-extension-transverse shear coupled random response of the composite beams with thin-walled open sections subjected to various types of concentrated and distributed random excitations is dealt with in this paper. First of all, equations of motion of thin-walled composite H-type cross-section beams incorporating a number of nonclassical effects of transverse shear and primary and secondary warping, and anisotropy of constituent materials are derived. On the basis of derived equations of motion, analytical expressions for the displacement response of the composite beams are derived by using normal mode method combined with frequency response function method.

A numerical computation and experimental test have been performed for the investigation of dynamic behavior of composite beams with bonded piezo ceramics. The present finite element method based on layerwise approach can effectively evaluate the characteristics of the composite beams with bonded piezo ceramics. The natural frequencies and damping values were measured by fitting the frequency response function obtained from FFT analyzer. The frequency-dependent damping properties of composite material were measured to utilize them for the finite element analysis of the composite beams with bonded piezo ceramics. The experimental results are in good agreement with those of finite element analysis.

A study on the structural analysis of the composite laminated cylindrical shell which has simply supported boundary conditions at both ends, was performed. The results were used into the neural networks. Neural networks identify the load characteristics of the composite shells. Momentum Backpropagation which the learning rate can be varied was developed. Input patterns consist of strains at 9 side points which is divided equally. Output layers are the load characteristics. Developed program was used for the training. The training with variable learning rate was converged close to real oad characteristics. Inverse engineering can be applicable to the composite laminated cylindrical shells with developed neural networks.

Analysis and experiment on dynamic characteristics of automotive roof have been carried out experimentally and numerically to design a lightweight roof. Finite element analysis of a conventional steel automotive roof was verified by experiments on vibration characteristics. The dynamic analysis of carbon fiber reinforced composite automotive roof shows that the roof stiffness changes as the fiber orientation of the laminated panel changes. Optimization results yielded a composite roof, which was 52% lighter, than the steel conventional steel automotive roof. This paper addresses a design strategy of composite roof for weight reduction.

The responses of composite laminated beams modeled with finite element and excited by stochastic loading are studied. The cantilevered laminated beam having a 5 ply configuration is considered. The beam is 1m long, 0.1m wide, and 0.02m thick, yielding a length to thickness ratio of L/h=50. The laminated beams was assumed to be made of Born Epoxy. The four nodes at the free end of the cantilever were loaded with identical zero-mean white noise excitations. Stress and failure analysis loaded with identical zero-mean white noise excitations is carried out. Along with the obtained results, comparison and discussion are presented for the cases of symmetric-ply, antisymmetric-ply, angle-ply, and cross-ply laminated beams.
