An Study on Vibration Characteristics of Automobile Al-alloy Wheel (자동차 알루미늄 합금 휠의 진동특성에 관한 연구)

  • The styling of automobile wheels and their effect on vehicle appearance has increased in importance in recent years. The wheel designer has been given the task of insuring that a wheel design meets its engineering objectives without affecting the styling theme. The wheel and tire system is considered as a vehicle component whose dynamic modal information of the tire/wheel system are employed in the modal synthesis model of the vehicle. The vibration characteristics of a automobile wheel play an important role to judge a ride comfort and quality for a automobile. In this paper, the vibration characteristics of a Al-alloy and steel wheel for automobile are studied. Natural frequency, damping and mode shape are determined experimentally by frequency response function method. Results show that wheel material property, size and design are parameter for shift of natural frequency and damping.

  • Research interest on flexible body dynamics, has been increased recently. The major application areas are the auto-mobile, train, and heavy machinery. This paper attempted the dynamic analysis for the variable-gauge wheelset with a flexible body, to better understand the dynamic characteristics of the variable-gauge wheelset. In order to achieve this goal, a 3D-Virtual Mock-up model was built. The tendency of the stress and deformation for the flexible lever was investigated through component mode synthesis, contact mechanics and flexible body dynamics. This study is a pioneering work for the development of Korean type variable-gauge wheelset.

Vibration and stability of axially loaded cracked beams

  • Structural defects such as cracks are the source of local flexibilities and cause deficiencies in structural resistance. In the engineering constructions, structural elements sometimes are subjected to axial loading. Therefore, besides crack ratios and locations, influence of applied load on the stability and dynamical characteristics should also be explored. This study offers a numerical technique for the vibration and stability analysis of axially loaded cracked beams. The model merges finite element and component mode synthesis methods. Initially, stability analysis is completed and then dynamical characteristics of beams are found. Very good conformities between outcomes of the current study and those in literature, give the confidence that proposed method is reliable and effective.

  • SDM(Structural Dynamics Modification) is to improve dynamic characteristics of a structure, more specifically of a base structure, by adding or deleting auxiliary(modifying) structures. In this paper, I will focus on the optimal layout of the stiffeners which are attached to the plate to maximize 1st natural frequency. Recently, a new topology method was proposed by yamazaki. He uses growing and branching tree model. I modified the growing and branching tree model. The method is designated modified tree model. To expand the layout of stiffeners, I will consider non-matching problem. The problem is solved by using local lagrange multiplier without the mesh regeneration. Moreover The CMS(Component mode synthesis) method is employed to reduce the computing time of eigen reanalysis using reduced componet models.

ROCHE MODEL AND ABSOLUTE DIMENSIONS OF THE ECLIPSING BINARY Y CAM WITH A PULSATING COMPONENT (맥동 식쌍성 Y Cam의 ROCHE 모형과 절대 물리량)

  • We performed CCD photometric observations of the eclipsing binary Y Cam with a pulsating component, for 16 nights from November 2000 to May 2001 using a V filter attached to the 61-cm reflector at Sobaeksan Optical Astronomy Observatory. Our V light curve and Broglia & Marin's (1974) BV ones were analyzed with Mode 2 for a detached Roche model as well as Model 5 for a semi-detached one in the Wilson-Devinney code. From the analysis, we found the following results: 1) It is hardly discernible from only light curve synthesis which model between the detached and semi-detached ones is a real Roche model of Y Cam. 2) There exist the third light of about 2% and 3% in B and V light curves of Y Cam, respectively. 3) The light curve solution is immune from the light variation due to the pulsation of the primary component of Y cam. However, the detached model rather than the semi-detached one has slightly better fitted to the observations which were get rid of the pulsation effect. 4) The absolute dimensions of Y Cam were calculated for two Roche models.

Eigensensitivity Synthesis and Its Applications (동특성 민감도 합성법과 그 응용)

  • The new method, termed the substructural eigensensitivity synthesis method, utilizes the computational merits of the component mode synthesis technique and of sensitivity analysis for the design sensitivities of the dynamic characteristics of substructurally combined structures. It is shown that the eigensensitivities of the entire structure can be obtained by synthesizing the substructural eigensolution and the sensitivities of the eigensolution for the design variables of the modifiable substructure. The sensitivities of the eigenvalues and eigenvectors obtained by the new method are compared to exact eigensolutions in terms of accuracy and computational efficiency. The small errors in eigensensitivity due to the truncation of higher modes remain within a manageable and permissible range for further analysis. The advantage of the newly proposed method as compared to the direct application of sensitivity analysis of the whole structure is demonstrated through examples.

  • Strain Energy Hinge(SEH) has been used in Korea Multi-purpose Satellite(KOMPSAT) series to deploy the solar panel due to the good record of reliability. However, when it reached a desired deployment position, a large buckling force is applied to the main body. This may cause structural damage and also affect control of the satellite. Therefore, reliable dynamic analysis for the deployment system is required at a design stage. Moreover, various mission of a satellite has made the size of solar panels got bigger, so elastic effect has to be considered seriously to get more precise analysis results. In this paper, a dynamic analysis method to predict the deployment is verified by KOMPSAT-2 deployment test.

Electrochemical Synthesis of Dumbbell-like Au-Ni-Au Nanorods and Their Surface Plasmon Resonance

  • In this report, we demonstrate that the longitudinal localized surface plasmon resonance mode can be suppressed when the nanorods were in dumbbell shape. The seed nanorods were synthesized by electrochemical deposition of metals into the pores of anodic aluminum oxide templates. The dumbbell-like nanorods were grown from seed Au-Ni-Au nanorods by a rate-controlled seed-mediated growth strategy. The selective deposition of Au atoms onto Au blocks of Au-Ni-Au nanorods produced larger diameter of Au nanorods with bumpy surface resulting in dumbbell-like nanorods. The morphology of nanorods depended on the reduction rate of $AuCl_4^-$, slow rate producing smooth surface of Au nanorods, but high reduction rate producing bumpy surface morphology. Through systematic investigation into the UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy, we found that the multiple localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) modes were available from single-component Au nanorods. And, their LSPR modes of Au NRs with bumpy surface, compared to the smooth seed Au NRs, were red-shifted, which was obviously attributed to the increased electron oscillation pathways. While the longitudinal LSPR modes of smoothly grown Au NRs were blue-shifted except for a dipole transverse LSPR mode, which can be interpreted by decreased aspect ratio. In addition, dumbbell-like nanorods showed an almost disappeared longitudinal LSPR mode. It reflects that the plasmonic properties can be engineered using complex nanorods structure.

Effect of dextranase and glucose-oxidase on the formation of plaque by Streptococcus mutans (Streptococcus mutans의 Plaque 형성에 미치는 Dextranase와 Glucose-oxidase 의 영향)

  • Dextranase and glucose-osidase was investigated as an anti-plaque agent and a component of dentifrice. In vitro synthesis of the water-insoluble glucan was decreased with increasing amount of dextranase and glucose-oxidase. Dextranase was effective on the decrease of viable S. mutans, and the formation of plaque decreased. But it is not effective on the degradatio of plaque. As a research for addition of enzyme to the dentifrice components, we formulated the Model Dentifrice for stabilization of enzyme. At the Model Dentifrice, we confirmed the stability of enzyme by evalution of activity for a long time.
