Priming of Autoreactive $CD8^+T$ Cells Is Inhibited by Immunogenic Peptides Which Are Competitive for Major Histocompatibility Complex Class I Binding

  • In the present study, we investigated if priming of autoreactive $CD8^+T$ cells would be inhibited by competitive peptides for major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I binding. We used a mouse model of vitiligo which is induced by immunization of $K^b$-binding tyrosinase-related protein 2 (TRP2)-180 peptide. Competitive peptides for $K^b$ binding inhibited IFN-${\gamma}$production and proliferation of TRP2-180-specific $CD8^+T$ cells upon ex vivo peptide restimulation, while other MHC class I-binding peptides did not. In mice, the capability of inhibition was influenced by T-cell immunogenicity of the competitive peptides. The competitive peptide with a high T-cell immunogenicity efficiently inhibited priming of TRP2-180-specific $CD8^+T$ cells in vivo, whereas the competitive peptide with a low T-cell immunogenicity did not. Taken together, the inhibition of priming of autoreactive $CD8^+T$ cells depends on not only competition of peptides for MHC class I binding but also competitive peptide-specific $CD8^+T$ cells, suggesting that clonal expansion of autoreactive T cells would be affected by expansion of competitive peptide-specific T cells. This result provides new insights into the development of competitive peptides-based therapy for the treatment of autoimmune diseases.

  • Amidst dynamic business environment, creating competitive advantage, source of competitiveness, is a critical issue for international port operations. To overcome limitations of prior studies adopted cross-sectional approach, this study reviews a way to continually sustain and create competitive advantage, based on the case of Busan port in South Korea. Development plans, operations and management practices from2005 to 2014 were investigated and reviewed. Results revealed that enhancement of infrastructure, new engine to sustainable growth, green and safety, and partnership enhancement were a source of creating competitive advantage. The results help theoretical advances on competitiveness and its durability, and provide useful insights for creating competitive advantages and future improvement in international port operations.

Technological Innovation Activities have a Positive Impact on Competitive Advantage, and do not have enough Impact on the Development Performance. Technical Cooperation Activities have a Positive Impact on the Development Performance, and do not have enough Impact on the Competitive Advantage, Competitive Advantage has a Positive Impact on the Development Performance as well as the Business Performance. Development Performance has a Positive Impact on the Business Performance.

  • The entry of large discount stores into small cities such as Choonchun or Wonju have had a profound impacts on the businesses of small-sized retailers. The impacts of the entry by large discount store will be much larger than those of the entry by department store or other small-scale retailers. Most of research studies on the competitive retail structure focused on the change of retailing in the advanced countries dynamically and investigated macro-trends in sales and market share. As a result, they tend to overlook the micro aspects of consumers" perception and actual behaviors. Furthermore, they tend to limit their research scopes to relatively competitive retailers not to overall competitive structures. In this study, we analyze the overall competitive structures by investigating the retailers" characteristics, perceptions of consumers on retailers and actual purchase of products across different types of retailers We could obtain competitive retail structure. Based on that, we discuss the strategies on the revitalization and enhancement of small-sized retailers" productivities.

  • Sorption/desorption studies were conducted to determine sorption/desorption characteristics of phenolic compounds (phenol and 4-chlorophenol) in organically modified natural bentonite. The cationic exchange capacity (CEC) of bentonite was exchanged with a cationic surfactant, hexadecyltrimethylammonium (HDTMA), to enhance the removal capacity of organic phenol contaminants dissolved in aqueous solution. This modification produces a change of the surface property of bentonite from hydrophilic to organophilic. The single-solute and bi-solute competitive adsorptions were performed In batch mode to investigate the removal of two toxic organic Phenols, chlorophenol and 4-chlorophenol on the HDTMA-bentonite. The adsorption affinity of the 4-chlorophenol was higher than phenol due to higher octanol:water partition coefficient (Kow). The single-solute and bi-solute competitive desorptions were also performed investigate the competitive desorption of the phenolic compounds from HDTMA-bentonite. Freundlich model was used to analyze the single-solute adsorption/desorption results, while the IAST model predicted the hi-solute adsorption/desorption equilibria. The IAST model well predicted hi-solute competitive adsorption/desorption behaviors.

  • This paper presents a new approach to analyze the stability of dynamic competitive markets within the framework of supervisory control of discrete event systems. A competitive market is representative of free market economy where it is well known that an invisible hand (also referred to as Walrasian auctioneer) always achieves an equilibrium of demand and supply. Upon the framework of supervisory control theory, this paper shows that Walrasian auctioneer is a stabilizing supervisor for a convergent competitive market, however a non-convergent competitive market (e.g. a free market under economic bubble and depression) controlled by Walrasian auctioneer may not be stable.

Competitive power reinforcement effect factor with special restaurant was construed by company culture, personal relations, business ability period of ten days, and fast food company culture and Information Technology factor with hotel restaurant company culture by competitive power reinforcement effect factor construe.

  • In competitive PCR, which is used to quantify target DNA an internal standard is needed. Here we present a simple method to construct homologous competitive standards. The method, which is based upon deletion of a portion of the target DNA, does not require any additional primers. This is the simplest method developed thus far to construct a competitive standard. The whole procedure. from construction of a competitive standard to quantitation by PCR, can be completed within a single day.

  • This paper empirically and longitudinally examines relationships among corporate strategy, competitive advantage of information technology (CAIT), and organizational performance. This research replicates the research done in 1997 and compares the results to observe any noticeable changes. Research results confirm that information technology provides several traits of strategic advantages such as efficiency, threat, functionality, preemptiveness, and synergy and significantly contributes to corporate performance both in 1997 and 2004. The findings reinforce the accepted belief that alignment between corporate strategy and CAIT is critical for firms to attain sustainable competitive advantage, subsequently enhances corporate performance and competitive position against rivals, potential entrants, substitutes, suppliers, and buyers. Research results of 2004 show stronger relationships among corporate strategy, competitive advantage of information technology, and organizational performance than research results of 1997.

  • This research deals with the basic ideas and implementation used for developing competitive advantage in the market they serve. The market to which a company belongs is continuously evolving, not static. Therefore, the company is required to adopt a suitable strategy in the market it serves. Marketing strategy establishment requires continual adjustment in the strategy content and redirection in organizational actions to address emerging market problems and opportunities. Much of the strategic implementation is characterized by firefights aimed at solving emerging, unforeseen problems. The concept of strategy was originally introduced to provide companies with a rational means of coping with environmental changes. An old Oriental proverb said that "knowing myself and then understanding others is the best way to success". In line with the proverb, the starting point of marketing strategy establishment for the competitive advantage is to understand the activities of a company wholly. After analyzing the scope of its activities, a company has to understand the market structure, to review competitive environments, to formulate the base of the competitive strategy and to adopt differentiation strategies for obtaining the competitive advantage.
