Objectives: Given that the expansion of smoking cessation regulations in Korea generates great demand for smoking cessation services, healthcare professionals should be up skilled to make an important contribution to tobacco control. This study was aimed to develop a smoking cessation education program for nursing students and to try to find possible ways to incorporate the smoking cessation education in their regular course program. Methods: One group pre- & post-test design was used. The subjects were 70 nursing students from two universities in S and D city. Subjects were participated in a four-hour smoking cessation education program developed for increasing knowledge, competency, and self-efficacy for smoking cessation counselling. Data were analysed with descriptives and paired t-tests. Results: The developed education program for smoking cessation counselling produced a substantial effects in terms of knowledge, competency, and especially for self-efficacy for smoking cessation counselling. Conclusions: Smoking cessation advices and support from health professionals are key aspects of a comprehensive approach to smoking cessation. Incorporating the smoking cessation education program developed in this study in the regular baccalaureate program for nursing students may help increase the involvement of nurses in cessation counseling upon graduation.

The purpose of this study is to develop the national generic competency standards for professional engineer and so improve the quality of Korean professional engineer into an international level. First, this study intends to develop the national generic competency standards for professional engineer that contributes to maintain and enhance the quality of professional engineers in terms of a linkage among education and training, qualification, and labor market. Second, this study aim to obtain the national generic competency standards for professional engineer that applies to reform the criteria of certification, testing, and interview of National Technical Qualification System as well as to develop the curriculum of engineering education and continuing professional development and the system of human resource management in corporations. As a result, a final draft of the national generic competency standards for professional engineer was confirmed to include 12 clusters of competency standards and 56 elements of competency standards.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the performance of the Daegu Happiness Competency Education Program. It was confirmed that students, parents, teachers, and education professions are aware of the middle and higher level of education for happiness in Daegu in terms of the formation and operation of the curriculum. There is no significant difference between students and parents in terms of average value, and teachers' perception level is relatively high, which is understandable in that teachers are the subjects of the curriculum organization and operation. In addition, there was no statistically significant difference between the parents and the school level, but there were significant differences between students and teachers. In particular, students' and teachers' perceptions were lowered as the number of schools increased, unlike the predictions. They showed the lowest results in the special schools, autonomous schools and special schools. The reason for this is that Daegu Happiness Competency Education was implemented in 2014, and it was because there was little room to recognize and accept the new curriculum due to the burden of college entrance examination or employment. In the future, it will naturally improve as the education process is settled, but here we can find suggestions for the establishment of Daegu Happiness Competency Education.

Korea's e-government is the world best system and the open government data field is also ranking number 1 by UN evaluation. Therefore Korea's ICT level is ranking number 1 in the world especially in ICT (Information Communication Technology). However, in terms of national ICT capabilities, national ICT competency education is tend to perform by the simple list of courses rather than detail definition of the specific skills or training. In this paper, we define the national ICT capabilities through research and analysis of the national ICT competency model and define the relevant curriculum. This is very important to develop national ICT competency as well as ICT technologies because other countries will develop their information by learning from Korea's ICT and e-government as a model. Therefore, we firstly study about the national ICT competency model and will be drawn from the courses required for national ICT competency model.

The observation and recommendation system was recently introduced for selecting gifted-students in science, and it has required to arrange the reliable and valid selection criteria that could identify the high potential competency of them. In this study, we explored the competencies that could help to discriminate gifted-students' inner properties, and also developed the dictionary based on them. The competencies were extracted from the proven previous competency dictionaries/models and examined by the structured survey and the focus group interview in order to ascertain the competencies of the science-gifted students. The results revealed that there were two competency clusters such as cognitive and affective domains. The cognitive cluster consisted of 6 competencies as follows: goal suggestion, planning, information collection and analysis, problem solving, higher-order thinking, and expertise and self-development competency. The affective cluster consisted of 3 competencies: confidence, achievement orientation, and curiosity competency. The dictionary categorized by the names, definitions, key elements, and behavioral indicators and their levels of the derived competencies was developed. Findings were expected to provide the implications on the selection criteria of the potential science-gifted students through the observation and recommendation system.

National Competency Standards(NCS) is to systemize the competency that is necessary for performing duties in industrial fields and to utilize synthetically duty, vocational education training, and qualification at the national level. The purpose of this study is to analyze the process of NCS development and verification, which systemizes competency units and competency unit elements through the analysis of duty in pattern field. It is to cultivate competent people to be able to promote the development of pattern industry ultimately through being a complementary to educational circles and industry then to give them practical knowledge that is demanded in the field. Furthermore, it is to be utilized as a fundamental data for reforming the system of duty competency evaluation so as to manage personnel career systematically and to improve their competency. Focus Group Interview(FGI) was adapted as the method of this study, which was proceeded 3 times, and validity of the drawn result is verified through expert questionnaire survey. Research result, which is competency units, is 10 as follows; Fit trend analysis, Analysis of sample garment Specification sheet, Pattern making for sample garment, Pattern making for manufacturing garment, Creation of sewing specification, Instruction of manufacturing technique, Sample garment Inspection for quality control, Grading, Calculation of the required material quantities, Quality control.

Problem solving competency has always been a prime issue in education, and it is defined as core skills of a life competency or as 21st century skills that students need to successfully learn. This study aims to discover the scope and impact of digital textbooks on students' competencies. This study also examines meaningful differences brought about using digital textbooks and taking lessons specifically adapted to improve 5th grade students' problem solving competencies. The pretest-posttest control group design was adopted and a performance-based measurement tool for problem solving competency was developed and applied. The results indicate that the classes using digital textbooks achieved higher scores in problem solving competency. Also, a lesson that was specifically adapted with the aim to improve students' problem solving competency had a positive influence on students' achievement. Moreover, there was reciprocal influence between using digital textbooks and adapting instructions to improve problem solving competency. In conclusion, the effect of digital textbooks should be discussed further while also considering the influence of teachers' instructional strategies.

The study tried to investigate perception of the importance and educational needs of job performance competency of National Competency Standards based vocational education curriculum in technical specialized high schools and meister high schools. For this, the survey was conducted targeting 269 specialty subject teachers in technical specialized high schools and meister high schools. And the results are as follow: First, job performance competency were divided into 5 categories(curriculum guidance, school life guidance, class management, extraordinary activities and administrative duties) and 34 sub-categories. Second, higher importance values were curriculum guidance, extraordinary activities and school life guidance. Higher educational needs values were curriculum guidance, extraordinary activities and administrative duties in categories. Third, higher importance values were construction and reconstruction of NCS learning modules, organization and manage of NCS based vocational education curriculum, guide of the new laws and employment, student records manage, research activities of NCS, hands-on-background training, NCS projects in sub-categories. Fourth, the results show that the NCS experienced teachers more highly evaluated the importance and educational needs of the job performance competency than the NCS inexperienced teachers did.

Objective: The purpose of this study is developing parents' character competency reinforcement program for the prevention of child abuse based on the critical competencies suggested by Character Education Promotion Act. Methods: For the development of the program, the literature review about child abuse prevention program in domestic and international research was conducted. Also, we conducted focus group interviews with kindergarten (n = 3) and elementary school (n = 4) teachers who experienced abusive parents for grasping their characteristics as a qualitative data collecting strategy. Results: As a result, parents' character competency reinforcement program for the prevention of child abuse was composed of a total of 7 activities; 'Understanding me and child', 'Anger management training for parent', 'Improving effective communication skill with child', 'Practicing two-way communication with child', 'Arts and Culture experience with child', 'Understanding my and child's feelings', 'We need a whole village to raise a child'. This program curriculum can be greatly four parents' character competency parts; self-management competency, communication competency, sensitivity competency, community competency. Conclusion/Implications: The program developed in this research can utilize the basic framework of the program to strengthen parent's toughness ability and it is crucial to develop customized toughness capacity increasing plan according to parent's characteristics It will be essential information.

The purpose of this study is to find the relationships among communication competency, social network centrality(trust centrality and knowledge sharing centrality), discussion performance, and online boarding activity in the team based learning situation. For investigating this topic, 44 students are participated in the classes of educational technology. In order to find out the relationships among communication competency, social network centrality, discussion performance, and online boarding activity, compared t-test and path analysis are used. Followings are the results of the research: (a) Communication competency is improved significantly after team based learning. (b) Trust centrality effects significantly on the knowledge sharing centrality. (c) Knowledge sharing effects significantly on discussion performance. (d) Trust centrality effects on the online boarding activity in the team based learning.
