  • This study analyzes the management performance of environmentally-friendly rice farms using GCM method based on the multifaceted approach. This approach compares the management performance of GCM farms before and after the introduction of GCM, as well as the performance of GCM farms with the performance of conventional farms. It also compares the technical and managerial competence level of surveyed GCM farms with that of conventional farms based on the standard diagnosis table developed by Rural Development Adminstration. Results showed that average income has increased after the introduction of the GCM method and the average income of GCM farms was higher than that of conventional farms, while the level of rice production in farms using GCM method was lower than that of conventional farms. In addition, the technical and managerial competence score of surveyed farms using GCM method was higher than that of conventional farms. These results implies that the higher management performance of GCM farms compared to the conventional farms is attributed to not only the GCM method but also the competence level of farms using GCM method.

  • This study examined the influences of general characteristics, maternal parenting behaviors and children's self-control ability on children's social competence. A total of 416 children in the fifth and sixth grades responded to questionnaires, which included items related to their social competence, their mothers' parenting behavior, as well as their own self-control ability. Data were analyzed by means of Pearson correlation analysis and the hierarchical regression analysis method. According to the results of the hierarchical multiple regression analysis, children's self-control ability best explained their social competence. In terms of individual factors, motivational self-control had the greatest effect on social competence, followed by cognitive self-regulation, behavioral self-regulation, economic level, gender and grades, in that order. The results for the effects of maternal parenting behaviors and children's self-control ability on children's social competence highlighted the important roles played by the mother and the child's self-control ability in improving the child's social competence. The study contributes to the literature by providing fundamental insights into children's higher quality of life.

  • This study examined the relationship among preschoolers' temperament, parenting sense of competence, and mothers' parenting behavior. It also examined the mediating effects of parenting sense of competence on the relationship between preschoolers' temperament and mothers' parenting behavior. A total of 155 mothers with preschoolers aged 3 to 4(83 boys and 72 girls), living in Seoul, participated in this study. The mothers completed questionnaires designed to measure preschoolers' temperament, parenting sense of competence, and mothers' parenting behavior. The results indicated that preschoolers' temperament and mothers' parenting sense of competence were significantly related to warmth/acceptance and rejection/restriction. Additionally, preschoolers' temperament was significantly related to parental efficacy and dissatisfaction. Furthermore, parenting sense of competence mediated the relationship between preschoolers' temperament and mothers' parenting behavior. In particular, it was found that parental efficacy fully mediated the relationship between preschoolers' activity level and mothers' rejection/restriction. These findings imply that improving mothers' parenting sense of competence needs to be emphasized in designing prevention and intervention programs aimed at enhancing mothers' positive parenting behavior.

Spiritual intelligence was set as an independent variable and multicultural competence was set as a dependent variable. Human rights attitude was established as a mediating variable. Study subjects were 259 university students majoring in social welfare studies at 5 universities in the Daegu, Gyoungbuk area. Spiritual intelligence and human rights attitude appeared to have a significant effect on multicultural competence, indicating that a higher level of spiritual intelligence and human rights attitude were correlated with a higher level of human rights attitude. Also in the pathway of spiritual intelligence on multicultural competence, human rights attitude had a significant mediating effect. When the university student majoring in social welfare studies had a high level of spiritual intelligence including transcendence and meaning and purpose of life, their perspective on human rights which is important in the practice of social welfare affected the multicultural competence required to assist immigrants of various identities. Based on the findings of the study, it is recommended for the university students majoring in social welfare to have the "three-multi-sensitivities" including sensitivity of multicultural competence, sensitivity of spiritual intelligence, and sensitivity of human right attitude.
