  • This paper presents a comparison study between simulation and experiment for fault diagnostics of a spur gear. In simulation, fault diagnostics using transmission error (TE) was performed and concluded to be valid. In a real experiment, however, it is not as easy to detect faults of gears using TE as in simulation. In this paper, after seeding the various faults like tooth crack of different length, tooth breakage and spalling in test rig, TE was calculated. Then, several signal processing techniques were performed to overcome the limitations of an experiment in detecting the fault signals of TE. After signal processing, we could detect the various faults of spur gears and different amplitude of TE sparks from cracks of different length. Then we discussed the difference between simulation and experment.

  • Numerous studies have been performed to analyze various phenomena of human's walking, gait. In the present study, unrecognized walking and recognized walking were analyzed by three dimensional motion capture system(VICON motion system Ltd., England) and simulated by computer program. Two normal males participated in measuring the motion of unrecognized and recognized walking. Six infrared cameras and four force plates were used and sixteen reflective markers were attached to the subject to capture the motion. A musculoskeletal model was generated anatomically by using ADAMS(MSC software corp., USA) and LifeMOD(Biomechanics Research Group Inc, USA). The inverse dynamic simulation and forward dynamic simulation were also performed. The result of simulation was similar to the experimental result. This study provides the base line for dynamic simulation of the falling walking. It will be useful to simulate various another pathologic gaits for old peoples.

  • Computer aided simulation is becoming an essential part in planning, design, and operation of railway systems. To determine the adequate performance and specification of railway system, it is necessary to calculate rolling stock's performance such as distance, speed, power etc when train's running. This paper presents result of train performance simulation using the program that developed in advance for Korea high speed train. To verify result of simulation, we have developed measurement system and compared simulation result with experiment data.

  • Leak detection technology is a challenging research until nowadays, because it has wide and various applications in industry. Furthermore pneumatic component reliability test based on ISO requires air leakage measurement. The conventional measurement methods need a complex operation and the calibration of leak detector. Tracing the history of our study, we proposed a new method for measurement of leak flow rate using isothermal chamber. In this study, propose a simulation model of isothermal chamber by infinitesimal flow -rate, such as a leak flow-rate. The effectiveness of the proposed simulation model is proved by simulation and experimental results. Base on the comparison results, proposed simulation model is good agreement with experimental results.

  • This paper presents a comparative evaluation of various topologies for three-phase power converters using the hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation technique. Various switch-mode AC-DC power converters are studied, and their performance with respect to total harmonic distortion (THD), efficiency, power factor and losses are analyzed. The HIL-simulation is implemented in an Altera Cyclone II DE2 Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Board and in the Matlab/Simulink environment. A comparison of the simulation and HIL-simulation results is also provided.

  • Friedman rank-sum multiple comparison procedure is often applied to nonparametric multiple comparison method under randomized block design. Since this method does not use between-block information, we propose, in this paper, nonparametric multiple comparison procedures employing aligned method suggested by Hedges and Lehmann(1962) under randomized block design. The proposed procedure and Friedman procedure are compared by Monte Carlo simulation study.

  • The urban model inter-comparison study (UMICS) was conducted in order to improve the performance of air quality models (AQMs) for simulating fine particulate matter ($PM_{2.5}$) in the Greater Tokyo Area of Japan. UMICS consists of three phases: the first phase focusing on elemental carbon (UMICS1), the second phase focusing on sulfate, nitrate and ammonium (UMICS2), and the third phase focusing on organic aerosol (OA) (UMICS 3). In UMICS2/3, all the participating AQMs were the Community Multiscale Air Quality modeling system (CMAQ) with different configurations, and they similarly overestimated $PM_{2.5}$ nitrate concentration and underestimated $PM_{2.5}$ OA concentration. Various sensitivity analyses on CMAQ configurations, emissions and boundary concentrations, and meteorological fields were conducted in order to seek pathways for improvement of $PM_{2.5}$ simulation. The sensitivity analyses revealed that $PM_{2.5}$ nitrate concentration was highly sensitive to emissions of ammonia ($NH_3$) and dry deposition of nitric acid ($HNO_3$) and $NH_3$, and $PM_{2.5}$ OA concentration was highly sensitive to emissions of condensable organic compounds (COC). It was found that $PM_{2.5}$ simulation was substantially improved by using modified monthly profile of $NH_3$ emissions, larger dry deposition velocities of $HNO_3$ and $NH_3$, and additionally estimated COC emissions. Moreover, variability in $PM_{2.5}$ simulation was estimated from the results of all the sensitivity analyses. The variabilities on CMAQ configurations, chemical inputs (emissions and boundary concentrations), and meteorological fields were 6.1-6.5, 9.7-10.9, and 10.3-12.3%, respectively.

  • In this study, a simulation was used to derive an optimal process of heat treatment with carburizing, and compared the derived result with SCr420HB helical gear in heat treatment with carburized quenching process about a change of the quenching method. The optimal carburizing process time is derived by the simulation with the theoretical time. The process has been performed by oil quenching and salt quenching method. Through the comparison of the results from the simulation(Hardness, effective case depth hardened by carburizing treatment and deformation) and the actual process, analyzed the error value of each quenching. And it verified the applicability of the simulation.

  • Simulation results for the comparison of estimators of interest are usually reported in tables or plots. However, if the simulations are conducted under various conditions for many estimators, the comparison can be difficult to be made with tables or plots. Furthermore, for algorithms that take a long time to run, the number of iterations of the simulation is costly to to be increased. The analysis of simulation results using regression models allows us to compare the estimators more systematically and effectively. Since variances in performance measures may vary depending on the simulation conditions and estimators, the heteroscedasticity of the error term should be allowed in the regression model. And multiple comparisons should be made because multiple estimators should be compared simultaneously. We introduce background theories of heteroscedasticity and multiple comparisons in the context of analyzing simulation results. We also present a concrete example.

  • Semiconductor wafer fabrication is a business of high capital investment and fast changing nature. To be competitive, the production in a fab needs to be effectively planned and scheduled starting from the ramping up phase, so that the business goals such as on-time delivery, high output volume and effective use of capital intensive equipment can be achieved. Project executed that use conveyor in bay semiconductor A line. But conveyor capability is lacking and rundown happened in equipment. Do design without normal simulation and conveyor system failed. The comparison is peformed through simulation using .AutoMod a window 98 based discrete system simulation software, as a tool for comparing performance of proposed layouts. In this research estimate optimum conveyor capability, there is the purpose.
