  • The purpose of this study is to find out the differences and commonalities between Korea and China by comparing the objectives, contents, and models of in-service teacher education. Through the differences and commonalities, it is intended to present a revelation point for the education of incumbent teachers in both countries. The research results show that in China, teachers' moral education and subject knowledge are emphasized, while in Korea, teachers' cultural competency and major knowledge are emphasized, and the specific training content and completion time are all precisely stipulated. Based on their research capabilities, the Chinese side was asked to provide individual-centered training support, and to the South Korean side, they were asked to suggest new points, such as substantiating the cooperative system between educational and training institutions.

  • This study investigated student engagement of STEM-specialized higher education institutions in comparison with students from humanities & social science and STEM majors, respectively. By doing so, the study aimed to find the effects of the characteristics of STEM disciplines and organizational culture of STEM-specialized small-sized institutions on student engagement. The students majoring STEM disciplines, regardless of the organizational types, showed lower reflective-integrative learning experiences compared to students on humanities & social science disciplines. In contrast, students of STEM-specialized institutions reported significantly higher levels of peer relationship and student-faculty interaction in comparison with humanities & social science students and STEM students of general higher education institutions. Finally, the study suggests policy implications for STEM education.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to develop a cognitive behavioral therapy program for ego-integrity of depressed elderly women living alone, and to verify its effectiveness. Method: The subjects of this study were composed of elderly women(age 65 and older) living alone who had basic literacy skills, 24 or higher in mental state examination(MMSE-K), and 6 or higher in elderly depression(GDS). 29 women were randomly assigned into an experimental group(cognitive behavioral therapy), a comparison group(reminiscence therapy) and a control group. The experimental group and the comparison group retrospectively participated in a 90-minute therapy session twice a week for a total of 12 weeks. The effectiveness of the program was assessed through a pretest, posttest, and 2-month follow-up test. The data collected were analyzed with SPSS 22.0 statistical program. Results: The main findings of this study are as follows. First, at posttest ego-integrity and self-esteem marked higher scores in both of the experimental group and the comparison group than in the control group, but the experimental group marked comparatively higher scores than the comparison group. For dysfunctional attitude, only the experimental group showed lower scores compared to the comparison group and the control group. Second, at posttest depression marked lower scores in the experimental group compared to the comparison group and the control group. Third, at posttest problem-solving and support-seeking coping strategies marked higher scores in the experimental group compared to the comparison group and the control group. Fourth, the significant improvements remained at 2-month follow-up test. Conclusions: Cognitive behavioral therapy resulted in improvements of the ego-integrity and related symptoms of depressed elderly women living alone at posttest and 2-month follow-up test respectively.

During six weeks, the multiple-Intelligence was executed in th search group while the teacher map based instruction in comparison group Post-test showed following results: First, the search group showed a significant improvement in the science process skill compared th the comparison group. Second, the search group did not showed a significant improvement in the scientific attitudes compared th the comparison group. In conclusion, multiple-Intelligence teaching model was more effective than the teacher map based teaching model on science process skill. However, since the study has a limit on an object of the study and the applied curriculum, the additional studies need to be conducted with an extended comparative group and curriculum.

  • Objectives : The objective of this research is to look deeper into the thoughts of Sajudang in her book on fetal education, Taegyoshin-gi(TGSG), published in the early 19th century Joseon, which focused on her understanding of human development and bodily relationship the mother has with her child with comparison to Korean Medical texts. Methods : The characteristics of TGSG were laid out with comparison to previous texts on fetal education of both China and Korea. After this, they were closely cross-examined with Korean Medical thoughts on human creation, mother-child relationship, and mind-body relationship. Results : Sajudang's thoughts on fetal education as written in TGSG, show a deep understanding of human development and the father and mother's roles in it, expanding the responsibility of fetal education from just the mother to both father and mother. There is also awareness of the importance of the Heart that is at the center of the fetal education process, and of the mother-child relationship through blood. Conclusions : Fetal education as discussed in TGSG expands from previous discourses on the topic, distinguishing itself with thorough understanding of how fetal education works, when it begins, and what the roles of the parents and the community are. This attributes to Sajudang's knowledge that came from both books and her actual experiences.

  • Half century has passed since Korean peninsula was divided into South and North Korea. Now a days, there are many differences of politics, economy, culture and education between South and North Korea. Especially mathematics education in which I am interested has a lot of changes and differences. This is proved true by defects' proof. For those reasons, I compared South Korea's education ideology, goal and system, and goals of mathematics education with North Korea's. I compared geometric(1-4 years, published by Pyong-yang Educational Book Publication Co. 1991) of mathematics texts(1-6 years) which are used in the secondary school with mathematics text of South Korea in contents and organization of them. As a result of this comparison, education ideology and goal are distinctly different from those of South Korea because of the difference of pursuing humanity. In North Korea, the curriculum is very strict without autonomy. There are 1283 mathematics classes which are occupied 19% for six years during the secondary school. The contents are very similar, but there is a little difference in the definition of a term. The problems which praise Kim Il-sung and his son and reveal loyalty to them were found, and there were a lot of problems in order to promote hostile feeling against U.S.A and South Korea, too. In conclusion, mathematics education of Korean peninsula should be reunified in the fields of the terms and contents at first.
