  • Recent developments in literature data mining for biology call for the design of a common framework that can be used to assess the performance of the reported systems in a fair and objective way. In this talk, we present an on-going effort to make it possible, in the form of challenges in the extraction of biological pathways and in the ontology construction. We are currently making this effort jointly with Lynette Hirschman (MITRE), Junichi Tsujii (University of Tokyo), Limsoon Wong (KRDL), and Cathy Wu (Georgetown University)

  • A common problem encountered in product or process design is the selection of optimal parameter levels which involve simultaneous consideration of multiresponse variables. A multiresponse problem is solved through three major stages: data collection, model building, and optimization. To date, various methods have been proposed for the optimization stage, including the desirability function approach and loss function approach. In this paper, we first propose a framework classifying the existing studies and then propose some promising directions for future research.

  • In this paper, we consider an implicit iterative process with errors for an in nite family of strict pseudocontractions. Strong convergence theorems are established in the framework of Banach spaces. The results presented in this paper improve and extend the recent ones announced by many others.

  • Recently, several noise-robust adaptive multichannel LMS algorithms have been proposed based on the spectral flatness of the estimated channel coefficients in the presence of additive noise. In this work, we propose a general form for the algorithms that integrates the existing algorithms into a common framework. Computer simulation results are presented and demonstrate that a new proposed algorithm gives better performance compared to existing algorithms in noisy environments.

  • Construction industry recognizes the necessity to manage is business from viewpoint of processes, and consider developing, evaluating and improving standard processes as important managerial target. SW-CMM provides basic framework for this process management. However, appropriate tailoring and adjustment are essential for SW-CMM concept to be applied to construction business. SW-CMM makes construction manager understand the capability of business process, based on which the priority of process improvement is judged. The capability is prescribed by common features. This paper introduces the basic frame for diagnosing construction business processes with SW-CMM, and presents the case study of analysing processes focusing on communication management.

  • The analysis on the relationships among SPI models and restructuring SPI models according to a common framework makes it possible to compare and integrate the numerous research results about the models. It also makes it possible to assess objectively and accurately the results and benefits of evaluating an organization which has been evaluated according to a partial SPI model according to a new and integrated SPI model.

  • In the recent IT industry, security has established itself as the factor to be considered the most in the software development. It goes without saying that security is the critical factor for the development of information security products. In the evaluation of the information security products, the security is assured by the security architecture requirement (ADV_ARC). However, the Absence of the systematic software security architecture process makes it difficult to guarantee the security quality consistently even though they are evaluated based on common criteria. In this paper, we propose a way to ensure a consistent security quality applying the software security framework in BSIMM.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the connection among inquiry activities related to 'Metabolism' presented in life science textbooks developed according to the national common basic curriculum. To perform this, the type, process and context of inquiry activities of life science textbooks were analyzed. The number of inquiry activities is gradually increased from elementary to secondary school. As result of analysis, types, processes and skills, and context of inquiry were not balanced according to textbooks and school levels. It is suggested that the framework of evaluating inquiry activities based on curriculum objectives be provided when developing science textbooks. It also implies that teachers need to reconstruct inquiry contents and activities suitable to school situations when they teach in the real fields of education.
