  • This paper proposes a six-color separation method of reducing unnecessary usage of colorants based on the limitation of total colorant amount and dot visibility ordering. First, the CIELAB values of input RGB image are estimated through the color-mixing model and compared with pre-calculated CIELAB values corresponding to all combination of CMYKlclm colorants with a constraint of color difference, thereby selecting initial CMYKlclm candidates. Next, the limitation on total colorant amount Is imposed on initial CMYKlclm candidates to remove the excessive amounts of colorants, and then final CMYKlclm candidates are determined by minimizing the usage of light cyan and light magenta in the dark region based on the dot visibility ordering of C, M, Y, K, lc, and lm. Through the experiment, the proposed method is shown to reduce the excessive amount of colorants with preserving good image quality.

  • In order to make full color cholesteric displays, color filter-less R, G, B sub-pixel structured cholesteric LC cells have been studied. To make R, G, B colors, UV induced pitch variant chiral dopant was added to cholesteric LC mixtures. The concentration of the photo-sensitive chiral dopant was adjusted so that the initial state showed blue color and the color was changed from blue to green and red with increase of UV irradiation to the cholesteric cells. To prevent the mixing of R, G, B reflective sub-pixel liquid crystals, separation walls were formed using negative photo resister in boundary area between sub-pixels. Through the optimization of the material concentrations and UV irradiation condition, vivid R, G, B colors were achieved.

  • In this paper, the quantity of dot gain in off-set printing is estimated by using the method of UCR(under color removal) and GCR(gray component replacement) and the degree of dot gain is researched through measurement of dot coverage of each color patch at the output film that is variously applied to discretionary quantity of dot gain each line in screen in the printing for the process of color separation and at the offset printing. Also, the best appropriate quantity of dot gain treatment is examined by printing each line in screen for reproduction of colors.

  • We focus our attention on grading of table meat in accordance with the standard of Japan Meat Grading Association, and construct a beef grading system by image processing. For image processing of beef grading, it needs some techniques such as a shading correction, separation of color image data, and classification of color image data into some grades, for the system construction. However, there are various kinds of weak points in usually used methods for these techniques. Then the authors propose and introduce new approaches using Neural networks and fuzzy inference for the techniques above mentioned, which is very convenient and ensure the high precision.

  • This study has the aim of defining the special characteristics and images of the rainbow colored fashion by understanding the theoretical bases of rainbow colors and analyzing rainbow colored fashion images in historical materials. western and folk costumes. modern fashion design. Giving careful consideration to the rainbow colored fashion makes it possible to develope the innovative way of fashion design to satisfy the needs of color usual for designers and colorists. To obtain the purposes, document study and survey study have been executed. The results of this study are as follows. In document studies, the beginning of rainbow colored fashion went back in ancient Egypt. Also saikdong of korea, poncho of indians are the examples of the rainbow colored fashion. The rainbow colored fashion were put on a man of position in principle ceremony for ornaments. In survey studies, the clothing perception characteristics in rainbow colored fashion were analyzed. Main factors of perception characteristics In the rainbow colored fashion are 'closed form', 'whole', 'indeterminate', 'rounded', 'planar separation' The factors that affect the perception of rainbow colored fashion are 'closed form' and 'indeterminate' characteristics. And rainbow colored fashion images and clothing perception characteristics can be classified into four main images : Vigorous, Colorful/fairy, Fresh, Mysterious/brilliant. Therefore. this study is to systematize the characteristics and images of rainbow colors. Based on the results makes it possible to adapt rainbow colors to fashion design efficiently, for the suggested design elements and color palettes include basic three fashion design elements color. texture. form.

  • A tongue shows physiological and clinicopathological changes of inner organs. Visual inspection of a tongue is not only convenient but also non-invasive. To develop an automat ic tongue diagnosis system for an objective and standardized diagnosis, the separation of the tongue are a from a facial image and the detection of coatings, spots and cracks are inevitable but difficult since the colors of a tongue, lips, and skin in a mouth as well as those of tongue furs and body are similar. The propose d method includes preprocessing with down-sampling and edge enhancement, over-segmentation, detecting positions with a local minimum over shading from the structure of a tongue, and correcting local minima or detecting edge with color difference. The proposed method produces the region of a segmented tongue, and then decomposes the color components of the region into hue, saturation and brightness, resulting in classifying the regions of tongue furs(coatings) into kinds of coatings and substance and segmenting them. Spots are detected by using local maxima and the variation of saturation, and cracks are searched by using local minima and the directivity of dark areas in brightness. The results illustrate the segmented region with effective information, excluding a non-tongue region and also give us accurate discrimination of coatings and the precise detection of spots and cracks. It can be used to make an objective and standardized diagnosis for an u-Healthcare system as well as a home care system.

  • A two color PIV technique has been developed for visualization of complex and high speed flow in a ramjet combustor. Two color PIV has the advantages that velocity distribytions in high speed flowfields can be measured simply by varying the time interval between two different laser beams and a directional ambiguity problem can be solved by color separation, and then a singnal-to-noise ratio can be increased through nearly perfect cross-correlation. As a basic research of the ramjet engine, a 2-D shaped combustor with two symmetric air intakes has been manufactured and an experimental study has been conducted using a two color PIV technique. The flow characteristics such as recirculation zones and two intake air mixing have been investigated varying inlet angles and dome heights. It is found that the size and air mass ratio of reciculation zones are affected mainly by an inlet angle, but not much by a dome height.
