  • Purpose: The purpose was to test the effects of cardiopulmonary resuscitation competency program on knowledge of CPR, self-efficacy, and the skills of CPR of nursing college students. Method: A convenience sampling of non-equivalent control group was used. Nursing college students were assigned either to conventional CPR education(N=28) or to intervention that involved a conventional CPR education and CPR competency program(N=28). CPR competency program was focused to enhance the self-directed learning on CPR training. Result: There were no significant differences on the CPR competency of knowledge and self-efficacy between experimental and control groups. However in the skills competency of CPR, there were significant differences between two groups. Conclusion: It is promising that CPR competency program can be effective to increase the skills of CPR of nursing college students.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the compliance with the first standardization of the paramedic curriculum and suggest a second standardization to cultivate competent paramedics. Methods: This study was conducted by collecting 38 curricula, and responses to questionnaires, including those on the current status of prehospital field practice, from departments of emergency medical technology of 36 institutions. Data were collected between September 1 and November 30, 2019 via e-mail. Data were analyzed using SPSS v24.0 and NVivo 12.0. Results: Compliance with the first standardization of the paramedic curriculum was over 70% in only 11 on the 26 major subjects. The second standardization of the paramedic curriculum consists of 27 subjects requiring 76~79 credits for the 3-year course and 78~82 credits for the 4-year course. Conclusion: We suggested a minimum number of essential subjects to cultivate competent paramedics following the second standardization of the paramedic curriculum, and we hope colleges comply with this curriculum. Twenty to twenty-five percent of major subjects can be determined by the discretion of the college to maximize competency of paramedic students.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception of death in paramedic student. The results of this study will help develop education program for death orientation, paramedic students education and practice. Methods : A total of 201 paramedic students filled out the questionnaire. The perception of death was examined using questionnaires designed for examining Death Orientation. The data were analyzed with SPSS 18.0 statistics program for frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, cronbach alpha coefficient, factor analysis. cronbach alpha coefficient was .866. Results : The paramedic students' got a score of $2.35({\pm}.48)$ on the Orientation on death as average. The reason is that death is not yet pressing them at all and ahead of their lives they have many days to live. With respect to the Death Orientation, significant differences was found in experience of death(t=2.318, p=.021). Group of death experience was higher than group of no death experience. In view of the attitude on afterlife, students responded no afterlife(24.9%), unknown after death(22.4%). Conclusion : The results of this study suggest that paramedic curriculum should include education program on death and improve quality of prehospital care. Additional studies are needed to establish death education for paramedic.

Methods : A total of 209 emergency medical technology students filled out the questionnaire after receiving the informed consents. The questionnaire consisted of demographical characteristics, academic self-efficacy and self-directed learning attitude. Results : Academic self-efficacy and self-directed learning attitude of the subjects were above mean average. Higher correlations existed between academic self-efficacy and self-directed learning attitude of the subjects, and the significant positive correlations were found between sub-factors of the academic self-efficacy and self-directed learning attitude. The academic self-efficacy of the subjects had the significant influence on the self-directed learning, and self-efficacy. The self-confidence among sub-factors in the academic self-efficacy had a significant influence on self-directed learning attitude and sub-factors. Conclusion : The results of the study subjects of academic self-efficacy had a significant influence on the attitude of self-directed learning, In particular, self-efficacy and confidence of the academic self-efficacy sub-factors showed a significant impact on the sub-factors, attitudes and self-directed learning. This study will provide the basic data for the implementation of the educational programs. This will be effective in managing the knowledge, information, self-directed learning attitude and academic self-efficacy.

  • This descriptive study was conducted to identify the attitude toward euthanasia of EMT and nursing students and to compare their attitude before and after clinical practice. The convenience sample was comprised of 40 first grade and 40 second grade EMT students attended at G college in G-city, and 40 first grade and 40 third grade nursing students attended at C college in C-province. The variable was tested with an euthanasia attitude scale developed by Kim Ae Kyoung(2001). The valid responses were obtained and analyzed by using SPSS PC+ from November 25 to December 6, 2002. The results showed that most of the respondents agreed to have positive attitude toward euthanasia in terms of client's right and client's quality of life. Also, they thought that euthanasia should be legalized and the right to die with dignity should be guaranteed. The EMT respondents having a clinical experience showed significantly higher score than respondents having no experience in the subarea of medical ethics, and nursing respondents who had a clinical practice showed significantly higher score than others no experience in the subarea of quality of life. But, the other sub-areas had no significant difference between the respondents before and after clinical practice. The attitude toward euthanasia composed of sub-areas such as being after the quality of life, having a high regard for a life and recognizing client's right was not affected by the single factor of clinical practice. Therefore, much supportive intervention need to be done for the students about the significant affecting factors found in this study like a religion, values, education and observing experience of someone's death.
