  • This study proposes learner participatory activities for learner-centered college liberal arts classes. In addition, it analyzes learners' perceptions of and satisfaction with learner-centered classes and identifies the issues that must be considered when planning learner-centered activities for college liberal arts classes. The study used a learner-centered participatory activity in which participants created a 4-cut cartoon addressing a specific theme. An open-ended questionnaire was administered to identify learners' attitudes about and satisfaction with the learner-centered classes. It showed that most learners (87.5%) were highly satisfied with the 4-cut cartoon creation activities in the learner-centered participatory class. Learners identified the burden- free nature of the class activities, the fact that they improved their understanding of class content, and that they were fun (not boring) as the main reasons they found the class activities satisfying. In liberal arts English classes, more diverse participatory class activities should be developed to arouse interest and motivation of learners and encourage learners' participation.

  • This study's purpose is to suggest a pedagogical method based on using animated movie in liberal arts English classes and to examine the direction that using animated movie as learning material should take. To this end, in this study, the content understanding and expression concentration stages using animated movie are presented. After students learned in class through animated movie, two tests were conducted to investigate the change in learners' acquisition of English expressions. As a result, subjects' learning of English expressions showed a significant improvement over time. An open-ended questionnaire was also conducted to ascertain learners' satisfaction level and their perceptions of classes using animated movie, with learners' satisfaction found to be high overall (77.1%). Students identified the reasons for their high satisfaction rate as the following: "fun and a touching story", "beneficial composition of textbooks", "efficient teaching methods", "sympathetic topics", and "appropriate difficulty". When using video media in class, instructors should maximize and leverage the advantages of video media, which are rich both in context and in their linguistic aspects.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of group co-learning on English reading ability and motivation and the change in group co-learning perception after planning and applying a group co-study class program that can be applied in university liberal arts English class. In order to achieve this goal, the experiment team (34 students) conducted the class from September 2 to December 13, 2019 for 62 freshmen who participated in the compulsory liberal arts English class at the four-year university in North Chungcheong Province, and the control team (28 students) conducted the class as a typical lecture class based on the basis of cooperative learning. The English proficiency of the learners was approached by dividing the area of academic proficiency into English reading skills and the area of justice into English reading motivations. The pre-experimental learners' English reading skills were measured by excerpting the national level educational achievement assessment (high 2). The research results are as follows. First, it was shown that the English reading ability score of a group that applied group cooperative learning and the English reading ability score of a group that did not apply group cooperative learning were statistically significant differences. Second, there was a difference between the English reading motivation score of the group applying the convocation group cooperative learning and the English reading motivation score of the group not applied. Third, the change in the perception of groups applying the convocation group cooperative learning occurred before and after the experiment. This study found that the awareness of English reading, English reading motivation, and cooperative learning increased through cooperative learning among university students during liberal arts English classes, which has a positive effect on self-identity and so on.

Research method is a delphi survey and the subjects are curriculum experts. The research results are as follows. Firstly, experts suggested common education for all students and students' opportunities to choose subjects. Secondly, the direction of curriculum revision was different by school level. The elementary school needs to foster convergence thinking. The middle school needs to educate common basic literacy education and the high school needs both the common education and the free choice of subjects by students. Thirdly, the separation of the liberal arts and natural sciences was caused by the separate thinking of custom, tradition and study and the separate exam application on liberal arts and natural science of college scholastic ability test. The solution about separation problem of liberal arts and natural sciences have been proposed to improve mathematics education and teachers' convergence education competency. Lastly, for the establishment of an 2015, integrated curriculum the reduction of the CSAT test area and the introduction of qualifying examination for English were required.

  • This study examined which acoustic cue(s) that Korean learners of English give weight to in perceiving English lexical stress. We manipulated segmental and suprasegmental cues in 5 steps in the first and second syllables of an English stress minimal pair "object". A total of 27 subjects (14 native speakers of English and 13 Korean L2 learners) participated in the English stress judgment task. The results revealed that native Korean listeners used the F0 and intensity cues in identifying English stress and weighted vowel quality most strongly, as native English listeners did. These results indicate that Korean learners' experience with these cues in L1 prosody can help them attend to these cues in their L2 perception. However, L2 learners' perceptual attention is not entirely predicted by their linguistic experience with specific acoustic cues in their native language.

  • The college English teaching-learning model in this study is intended to effectively apply dictogloss activities to enhance competencies such as communication, self-directedness, and cooperation by upgrading the utilization of various online platform functions. Dictogloss is a language teaching and learning activity that combines four functions (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) of communication. College English classes in this study focus on communication-oriented integrated English education. In this study, the teaching and learning is an online-based English integrated teaching-learning method based on constructivism theory. The model presented the roles of learners and teachers according to the seven procedures.

  • This study aims to examine how the use of Padlet, an online platform, affects students' English writing anxiety and English writing strategy in online college English writing classes. A total of 64 college students participated in the study and completed the survey including English writing anxiety, English writing strategy and demographic information. For the study, we divided participants into 2 groups, experimental group using Padlet for their writing tasks and control group using college e-learning during a semester. The results showed that students using Padlet used more writing strategies than the students using college e-learning platform. The use of Padlet, however, was not statistically significant on writing anxiety. English writing anxiety was differed by English level, but decreased at the end of semester regardless of English level. The results imply that Padlet is a useful online learning tool for English learners to actively use English writing strategies and even for learners with low English writing proficiency.
