Method: The participants in the study were 375 student nurses enrolled in 3rd & 4th year of a BSN program in Seoul and Gyeongi province, Korea. Data were collected from December 12, 2004 to November 30, 2005 using a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS 11.0 Win program. Results: The average score for self-efficacy was $3.21{\pm}0.60$, and for clinical skill competence $2.80{\pm}0.42$. The self-efficacy score showed a significant difference according to student's year in college (t=2.494, p=0.013), and GPA score (t=4.299, p=0.000). The clinical skill competence score showed a significant difference according to year in college (t=5.351, p=0.000), GPA score (t=2.997, p=0.003) and satisfaction with course (F=5.214, p=0.006). There was a significant positive correlation between self-efficacy and clinical skill competence (r=0.224, p=0.000). Conclusion: These findings show that there is a need to develop strategies to improve self-efficacy for student nurses in Korea. And also, it is recommended that programs to improve clinical skill competence need to be included in nursing curricula.

Method: The instrument used in this Investigation was the death orientation scale developed by Thorson and Powell (1988). The subjects of the study were the 47 college student nurses in a 'hospice care' class. The research was carried out between March 2, 2001, when the class began, and June 21, 2001 when the class ended The collected data were examined using arithmetic mean, percentage, t-test, ANOVA. Result: The results of the study are as follows : 1. The average death orientation score of the subjects before the class was 2.80. 2. There were a significant difference in the death orientation scores before and after the class (p<0.001). Before the class, 'hospice care', the students had an average score of 2,80. Their average score decreased to 2.55 after the class. Of 25 death orientation items on the scale, 14 items decreased significantly after the class as compared to before the class. 3. According to personal attributes (religion. the existence of religion, the experience of a death in recently) of subjects, there were no significant statistical differences in death orientation (p>0.05). Conclusion: This study showed that a class on hospice care was effective in changing the death orientation of student nurses.

The subject group was consist of students living in a dormitory among the college students in K city. The final 1,016 questionnaires were used as research data. The data analysis used correlation analysis, regression analysis, and Sobel test. The results showed depression, interpersonal problems and smartphone addiction were significantly correlated, and depression had a direct effect on smartphone addiction. In other words, the higher the level of depression, the higher the level of smartphone addiction of college students. Interpersonal problems was partially mediated between depression and smartphone addiction. Therefore, in order to decrease the level of college student's depression and smartphone addiction, it is necessary to develop and implement a program or counseling that can handle interpersonal problems as one of the strategies that can decrease the level of smartphone addiction. • Evaluating the effectiveness of educational programs involves measuring learning processes as well as outcomes. It is essential to study cohorts of students and graduates to evaluate the long-term effects of educational programs with data generated both during education and after graduation. The purpose of this study was to establish cohorts of students and graduates to evaluate their performance, thereby providing a basis for evaluating the social accountability of medical education. In this study, student and graduate cohorts were built for both students currently enrolled and graduates at Inje University College of Medicine (IUCM). A model involving the process of cohort establishment and an evaluation indicator framework was developed. In the process of cohort establishment, the following steps were conducted: defining the goals and objectives of the student and graduate cohorts, organizing a cohort committee, developing regulations, registering cohorts, acquiring consent, and building a database. A framework of evaluation indicators according to the graduate roles of IUCM was developed by adapting Kirkpatrick's evaluation model. Next, items to be collected in student and graduate cohorts were selected, and the current status of existing data was analyzed. Moreover, a preliminary analysis was conducted, including analyses of the evaluation indicators and graduates' performance. This study suggests that it is necessary to include additional evaluation indicators considering students' learning environment and well-being in student cohorts and to develop strategies or methods for graduates to continue participating in data collection for a long-term study.

  • Health perception is a very important issue for student nurses to be future health professionals. The concept of health has changed with the emphasis of 'health promotion', and thus nurses now have a demanded role as a health promoter. According to health promotion theories, health-promoting behaviors are affected by cognitive variables, and human behaviors are related to thoughts and perception. This study was conducted to recognize the relationships of attitude toward health behaviors to other health related variables. The data was collected using a self administered survey. The instrument used in this study was attitude of health behavior scales that were developed by Okayama medical school. The subjects were 512 student nurses recruited from 1 college and 3 universities. The data was analyzed using SPSS pc program with mean, correlation. and multiple regression technique. The results were as follows: 1. The mean score of attitude of health behaviors of the student nurses was 8.11, showing a relatively high level. A high score of health belief was reported in 'self-responsible type' with the score of 4.80, and a high score of 'think for health or disease' was reported in passive type with the score of 3.12. 2. Specifically, there were significant positive correlations between the level of 'attitude of health behaviors' and other health related variables such as health perception, think for health or disease, and age. 3. Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that active thought, leisure, self-responsible perception and depression accounted for 13%of variance of attitude toward health behaviors. In conclusion, although student nurses certainly perceived the performance of health behavior, they need to learn in more systematical way in order to be a better health promoter, one of the role of nurses. The results of the study suggest that further studies need to be done on attitude toward health behaviors and performance of health behavior by student nurses.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the predictors of academic probation in college. Especially, this study focused on student engagement variables among the predictors of academic probation in college. Student engagement variables include hours of absence from class and numbers of log to LMS(Learning Management System) and in extracurricular program system during four weeks after the opening of a course and the numbers of faculty counseling. GPA(grade Point Average) is a dependent variable and GPA of prior semester is a control variable in this study. 17,261 student data were collected for the study. Linear regression model and logistic regression model analyses were conducted in the study. The finding showed that the hours of absence from class and numbers of log in extracurricular program system during four weeks after the opening of a course predicted academic achievement of college students. The result also indicated that hours of absence from class and numbers of log-ins to LMS(Learning Management System) and in extracurricular program system during four weeks after the opening of a course were the predictors of academic probation in college. This study will contribute to investigate indicators of students with low academic performance and to provide proper support for underachievers.

PBL enables students think more efficiently and effectively when puzzling through the patient problems. The purpose of this study is to find out the perception of student nurse about PBL, the characteristics and the structure of the type for PBL. The research process is as follow : First, the researcher selected 35 statements for PBL with the content analysis of in depth interview and the literature review. Second, the researcher asks 38 student nurse to classify the statement cards. The result of the research is that the type of student nurse's PBL perception is divided into 4 types(Affirmative type, Negative type, Suspicious type, and Preferable type), and the explanative total variance is 44 percent. In relation to this, if PBL well combined and adapted in our traditional curriculum will change our nursing education in better direction.
