  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationships among team individuality-relatedness, cognitive flexibility and team creativity. A total of 313 engineering college students who organized 64 teams were assessed on individuality-relatedness scale, cognitive flexibility scale, and team creativity. Relatedness and cognitive flexibility had significant main effects on team creativity. There was a significant interaction between individuality and cognitive flexibility to explain team creativity beyond individuality alone. Finally, limitations of this study and suggestions for future studies were discussed.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the impact of cognitive flexibility and e-learning digital literacy on the learning flow of nursing students who had experienced e-learning. Methods: The research design for this study was a descriptive survey using convenience sampling. Data were collected using online questionnaires completed by 134 nursing students in Andong city and Pocheon city. The data were analyzed using percentages, mean values, standard deviations, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression with SPSS for Windows version 22.0. Results: Positive correlations were found between learning flow and e-learning digital literacy (r = .43, p < .001), between learning flow and cognitive flexibility (r = .52, p < .001), and between e-learning digital literacy and cognitive flexibility (r = .65, p < .001). In the multiple regression analysis, cognitive flexibility (β = .42, p < .001) was a significant predictor that explained 27.8% of variance in learning flow. Conclusion: The results of this study show that cognitive flexibility is a factor influencing learning flow in nursing students. Based on the results of the study, educational programs aiming to improve learning flow should include methods that improve cognitive flexibility.

  • This study examined the mediating effect of cognitive flexibility and active coping on the relationship between elementary school teachers' adult attachment and their perceptions of teacher-student relationships. Questionnaires were given to 203 elementary school teachers in Gyeonggi-do that contained adult attachment, cognitive flexibility, coping, and teacher-student relationship scales. Collected data was analyzed using SPSS 23.0 and SPSS macros. There were three major results. First, cognitive flexibility fully mediated the relationship between adult attachment and perceptions of teacher-student relationships. Teachers who had secure adult attachment tended to positively perceive teacher-student relationships as a result of their cognitive flexibility. Second, active coping did not mediate the relationship between adult attachment and perceptions of teacher-student relationships when the mediating effects of both cognitive flexibility and active coping were considered. This result means that adult attachment indirectly affected active coping via cognitive flexibility. Third, cognitive flexibility and active coping fully mediated the relationship between adult attachment and perceptions of teacher-student relationships. Teachers who had secure adult attachment tended to perceive teacher-student relationships positively as a result of their cognitive flexibility and active coping. This paper presents the implications of these results, limitations of this study, and suggestions for future research.

The subject of the study was 186 nursing students from a university in J City. The data collection period was from October 4 to October 23, 2023, and the data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0. The results of the study showed a significant correlation between academic stress, cognitive flexibility, and subjective happiness among nursing students, and it was found that cognitive flexibility partially mediated the relationship between academic stress and subjective happiness. Therefore, in order to improve the subjective well-being of nursing students, it is necessary to develop and apply programs that can reduce academic stress and increase cognitive flexibility.

  • Based on previous studies that cognitive complexity and coping flexibility are closely related with psychological adaptibility, it can be inferred that they can influence management ability of countertransference in counselling. This study focused on the influence of counselor's cognitive complexity and coping flexibility on the management ability of countertransference in counselling. The survey was conducted on 128 (female 108, male 20) counselors of college counseling center, general counseling center, schools and hospitals. The study employed flexibility scale measures, interpersonal discrimination test, and countertransference factors inventory. The results was that the level of cognitive complexity did not influence countertransference ability whereas the level of coping flexibility influenced countertransference management ability. In multiple regression, it was evidenced that coping flexibility influence countertransference management ability more than cognitive complexity. In sum, our study indicate that coping flexibility is important to enhance the management ability of countertransference in counselling, and that related counsellor training program should be developed in the future.

  • Purpose: We examined the effects of cognitive flexibility, resilience, and professional quality of life on the job embeddedness of nurses. Methods: The participants were 120 nurses in three general hospitals. Data collection was conducted using self-report questionnaires from May 17 to June 2, 2022. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: There were significant differences in job embeddedness by experience of turnover (t=-3.15, p=.002). The factors influencing the job embeddedness of the nurses were compassion satisfaction (β=.44, p<.001), resilience (β=.24, p=.035), experience of turnover (β=.23, p=.002), and cognitive flexibility (β=.21, p=.027). It was found that 39% could explain job embeddedness. Conclusion: It is necessary for nurses' support programs to be related to the experience of turnover to enhance job embeddedness. The results indicate a need to develop a program for cultivating compassion satisfaction, resilience, and cognitive flexibility to improve job embeddedness.

  • As creativity is a crucial attribute for companies' survival and innovative success, many firms encourage and implement ways to promote employee creativity. Previous studies in the dual pathway to creativity model have shown that creativity can be enhanced when either the cognitive flexibility or cognitive persistence path is triggered. Although individuals have different personal traits, prior research has rarely investigated whether one pathway is more effective for a certain personality in promoting creativity than the other. Using attachment theory, we examined the influence of attachment style on the degree of the impact of each path on creativity. Specifically, we hypothesized that securely attached people would show higher creativity only when they use the cognitive flexibility path. Data from the US support our hypothesis. Our research highlights that the link between cognitive flexibility and creativity is salient when securely attached people use the cognitive flexibility path because of the strong fit between secure attachment and flexible thinking.

As the result, the following conclusions have been gained. First, the constructive thinking pattern among the sub-factors of self-leadership had a positive influence on the flexibility of preferred varieties which is a sub-factor of cognitive flexibility. However, the behavior-oriented and natural reward self-leadership did not have influence on the diversity preferred flexibility. Second, the natural reward and constructive thinking pattern among the sub-factors of self-leadership have positive influence on the flexibility of preferred complexity which is a sub-factor of cognitive flexibility while the constructive thinking pattern flexibility was shown as exercising a very powerful influence. But the behavior-oriented self-leadership did not have influence on the flexibility of preferred complexity.
