The purpose of this study is to analyze the dimensions of clothing involvement of female undergraduates in Busan and some influential factors of TV on the clothing involvement. This research also shows the correlations among variables and the differences in clothing involvement and TV media-related influential factors by the customer types. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The clothing involvement is categorized into five factors: pleasure, fashionableness, symbolism, danger awareness, and disinterest in clothing. Four TV media-related influential factors are identified: conformity to entertainers' clothing, interest in entertainers, interest in TV-watching, and imitation of entertainers. 2. An analysis of correlation between clothing involvement and TV media-related variables shows that there is a correlation between conformity to entertainers' clothing and various clothing involvement factors as fashionableness, symbolism and pleasure. A factor of interest in TV-watching is related to symbolism and interest in clothing. A factor of imitation of entertainers is related to fashionableness and disinterest in clothing. 3. An analysis of the differences by the customer types leads to four types of categorization. Type 1 shows low interests in clothing and TV media-related variables. Type 2 demonstrates high clothing involvement and interest in TV-watching. Type 3 is classified as a high involvement/ conformity group, which not only shows high involvement in pleasure and symbolism of clothing but also high conformity to entertainers' clothing. And lastly, type 4 is an disinterest group but it shows high interest in TV-watching, entertainers and imitation of entertainers.
The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of clothing involvement, store and brand loyalty orientation on the information search behavior. The study subjects comprised 298 females living in Seoul and Kyung-gi area. The data were analyzed with factor analysis, regression, cluster analysis, ANOVA and correlation analysis. Clothing involvement and information search behavior consisted of various factors. Clothing involvement, store and brand loyalty influenced information search behavior. Fashion and clothing involvement was the most important factor which influenced all loyalty and information search behavior(i.e. brand and store loyalty, personal and nonpersonal information search behavior). According to store and brand loyalty factors, female consumers classified into three groups : low loyalty, brand loyalty and store loyalty group. Three groups showed different clothing involvement, information search, clothing purchasing behavior and demographic variables. Therefore, loyalty orientation is the important factor which can describe the consumer behavior more effectively.
The goals of this study were to refine conceptualization of clothing involvement and fashion involvement and develop a distinction between the two construct. A questionnaire was developed for an empirical study. A total of 669 female consumers participated in the study. Results indicated that respondents were able to be segmented into four groups based on clothing involvement and fashion involvement. Consumers who were highly involved in both clothing product and fashion were likely to be young and not married. Consumers who were involved in clothing were likely to seek quality than consumers who were involved in fashion. Interest in brands was more related to fashion involvement rather than clothing involvement.
This paper intends to examine the relationship between the consumer's enduring involvement toward clothing product, fashion innovativeness, and fashion opinion leadership. Specific purposes of the study are: 1) to identify dimensions of the enduring involvement toward clothing based on the theoretical framework; 2) to find out the effects of clothing involvement on fashion innovativeness and fashion innovativeness,m fashion opinion leadership, and demographic variables. The Likert Type questionnaires were used to measure clothing involvement, fashion innovativeness, and fashion opinion leadership. Samples of 389 women(college students, career women, housewives) living in Taegu area were analyzed by factor analysis, Pearson's correlations, t-test, and multiple regression analysis. Main results of the study are as follows: 1) Concept of the enduring involvement toward clothing is composed of five dimensions: fashion, importance, pleasure, self-expression, and perceived buying risk. 2) The clothing involvement is found to have significant influences on fashion innovativeness and fashion opinion leadership. 3) The relationships between the clothing involvement, age, educational level, and marital status are found to be statistically significant.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences in make-up behavior according to clothing involvement, age, and face satisfaction. Subjects of is study were the females in Seoul and Kyonggi, who were 20s and 40 $.$ 50s. Questionnaire was used as major method of gathering data. The data were collected from Sep. to Oct. in 2003 and analyzed by using SPSS 10.0 with various techniques such as the factor analysis, mean, percentage, cluster analysis, ANOVA, Duncan test, 1-test, Cronbach's $\alpha$, and $\chi$$^2$-test. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The consumers were classified into four categories by clothing involvement; high clothing involvement group, low fashion involvement group, middle clothing involvement group, low clothing involvement group. 2. The differences in make-up behavior according to the clothing involvement showed that make-up behavior was getting more aggressive as clothing involvement was getting higher. And generally Korean females thought the make-up was important. 3. The differences in make-up behavior according to the age revealed that 20s' make-up behavior was fashion oriented more than 40ㆍ50s, and 40ㆍ50s' make-up behavior was that they were taking a serious viewer than 20s' in interpersonal relationship oriented make-up behavior. 4. The result of differences in make-up behavior according to the face satisfaction was that no noticeable difference was found depending on the face satisfaction. This study revealed that the differences in make-up behavior according to clothing involvement and age were found and suggested that the cosmetic market segmentation could depend on clothing involvement market and two age group market such as younger and elder than 40ㆍ50s.
The purpose of this study was to clarify differences in their perceptions in relation to clothing quality and service quality of internet shopping mall according to classified consumer groups by clothing involvement. The 248 questionnaires were collected from female and male students of university who experienced browsing at the website for clothing shopping. Using SPSS Win package, Cronbach's $\alpha$, frequency. percentage, factor analysis, cluster analysis, ANOVA, SNK multiple range test and multiple regression analysis were performed. The results could be summarized as follows. First. the dimension of clothing involvement divided consumers into three different groups: fashion/importance group, pleasure group and symbol group. Second, the significant differences among the classified clothing involvement groups were found in the perceptions in relation to clothing product quality and service quality of internet shopping mall. Third. pleasure and symbol of clothing involvement, physical attributes and expressive goals of clothing quality, and product assortment and promotion of service quality in the internet shopping mall had an effect on the purchase intend of internet shopping mall.
The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between clothing involvement and fashion leadership of fashion models and college women. For this study, 113 fashion models and 265 female college students were analyzed. Factor analysis, Correlation, t-test and Regression analysis were used in data analyses. Clothing involvement was factor analyzed resulting five factors such as interest, pleasure, fashionability, risk perception and symbolism. Three clothing involvement factors had highly positive relations with total clothing involvement. Interest, pleasure and fashionability factors were related with each other: Fashionability and interest factors had an effect on fashion opinion-leadership and fashion innovation. Significant differences were found between fashion models and female college students in regard to clothing involvement and fashion leadership. Fashion models and female college students differed significantly in clothing interest and fashionability. Fashion models and female college students differed significantly in fashion opinion-leadership and fashion innovation. Fashion models were more fashion opinion leaders and fashion innovators than female college students.
The purpose of this study was to investigate body cathexis and clothing involvement by demographic characteristics and to indentify the relationship between body cathexis and clothing involvment. Five aspects of body cathexis(lower body, head/upper body, height, weight, torso) were assessed with 17 Likert type questionnaires adapted from the previous researches, and 24 items of clothing involvement were measured. The questionnaire was administered to 430 women in Taegu, Korea. The data were analyzed using percentage, frequency, factor analysis, ANOVA, Sceffe test, t-test, and Pearson's Correlation Analysis. The results of the study were as follows; 1. The body cathexis showed head/upper body, height, torso, lower body, weight in order of satisfaction level. Especially lower body and weight part were shown as the most unsatisfactory body parts. Age of 20s' showed the lowest body cathexis, and those who had the higher educational background and family income were more satisfied with their bodies. 2. Five dimensions of clothing involvement were derived by factor analysis such as fashion, interest, pleasure, symbolism, and perceived buying risk. 3. There were significant relationships between clothing involvement dimensions and demographic characteristics such as age, educational background and family income level. Those who were younger showed positive relationship partially among fashion, interest and pleasure of clothing dimensions but showed negative relationship in total clothing involvement. Those who had higher educational background and family income showed positive clothing involvement than married women and empolyed showed higher clothing involvement with symbolism and perceived buying risk than unemployed women partially but not in total clothing involvement with symbolism and perceived buying risk than unemployed women partially but not in total clothing involvement. 4. There were significant relationships between body cathexis and interest, perceived buying risk of clothing involvement partially. However, the correlation between body cathexis and total clothing involvement was relatively low.
This study analyzes the effect of clothing involvement using meta-analysis. Metal-analysis (the analysis of analyses) is widely used in various academic areas to integrate individual empirical studies and generalize the knowledge of a specific research field. Previous studies regarding clothing involvement published since 1990 were researched from the KISS database using clothing involvement and fashion involvement as a keyword; subsequently, 127 articles were identified. Studies that had insufficient statistics or included clothing involvement as a moderating (or intervening variable) were eliminated; subsequently, 36 articles provided a total of 75 data sets that were used for the final analysis. Dependent variables were grouped into 10 categories to compare the differences between high and low involvement groups. The effect size of clothing involvement was large in non-personal information source; however, it was small in utility, brand royalty and quality. In the 7 categories of relational studies that showed homogeneity, the relation size regarding conformity was smaller than the personal information source.
The purposes of the study were to explore differences in preference for clothing images according to wearing situations and clothing product involvement. A questionnaire was developed by the researcher and was collected by 101 men and 100 women aged between 40 and 59. Data were analyzed by factor analysis, repeated measure ANOVA, t-test adjusted by Bonferroni, paired sample t-test, and independent sample t-test. The results of the study showed that clothing images were classified into five factors including hard cold image, modern urban image, bold unique image, and heavy luxurious image. There were significant differences in preference among clothing images according to wearing situations and clothing product involvement. While modern urbane image was most preferred, hard cold image was least preferred in both formal and informal wearing situations, and for either high or low involvement clothing products. Also, there were significant differences in clothing image preference according to wearing situations and product involvement. In formal situations, stronger preference for modern urban image and heavy luxurious image showed than in informal situations, and bold unique image and heavy luxurious image were more preferred for high involvement clothing product than for low involvement clothing product. In addition, there were significant differences in preferences for clothing images between groups according to gender and age. In both formal and informal situations, men showed stronger preferences than women for hard cold image, but women for bold unique image. For either high or low involvement clothing products, men preferred hard cold image, modern urban image and heavy luxurious image more than women, but women preferred bold unique image more than men. Lastly, for high involvement clothing product, subjects aged fifties showed stronger preferences than forties for modern urban image and heavy luxurious image, but for low involvement clothing product, modern urban image was more preferred.
