This study is concerned with the application of an analytical model of cyclic crack growth that includes the effects of crack closure. The crack closure model is based on the Dugdale model and the strip model, considering the plasticity-induced closure which is caused by residual plastic deformation remaining in the wake of an advancing crack. This study is performed to get the relation between crack growth and crack opening stress with the constant stress ratio, and the relation between stress ratio and crack opening stress with the constant maximum stress under constant-amplitude loading. Under constant-amplitude loading, the crack opening stress is conversed the constant value as a crack grows and is proportion to both the stress ratio and the maximum stress. The crack closure effect, however, is decreased in the positive stress ratio and disappeared at about 0.7. The crack growth analysis using the crack closure model shows that the influence of stress ratio is minimized in the relation between crack growth ratio and effective stress intensity range specially at the negative stress ratio.
This study reviewde various parametic and nonparametic method for forexasting hospital closures in Korea. We compared multivariate discriminant analysis, multivartiate logistic regression, classfication and regression tree, and neural network method based on hit ratio of each model for forecasting hospital closure. Like other studies in the literture, neural metwork analysis showed highest average hit ratio. For policy and business purposes, we combined the four analytical method and constructed a foreasting model that can be easily used to predict the probabolity of hospital closure given financial information of a hospital.
Sea dyke construction is simply defined that the cutting procedure of sea water flow. Sea dyke construction is more difficult than in-land construction because it’s placed on deep seabed and exposed sea wave attack. Especially, the final closure of sea dyke is most dangerous due to the fast velocity of tidal flow. The final closure section is consisted with vast rubble and heavy stone gabion, therefore the discharge velocity at land side of final close section is irregularly and sometime occur the fast discharge velocity. In this study, the seepage model test performed to evaluate seepage behavior with tidal variation of final closure and continuous sea dyke section such as discharge velocity, hydraulic gradient, and phreatic line. Based on the seepage model test results, the maximum discharge velocity of final closure section is 1.7m/sec. Also the local discharge velocity increment and vortex is occurred.
In the present study, in order to analyze a turbulent flow in a square sectiond 180.deg. bend, Kim's low Reynolds number second moment turbulence closure is adopted. In this model, turbulence model constants in the wall region are modified as functions of turbulent Reynolds number by use of near wall turbulent universal properties based on Laufer's experimental results of Reynolds stress distriburions. Algebraic stress model and Reynolds stress equation model are used to verify the low Reynolds number second moment closure. The application of the present low Reynolds number algebraic stress model to the prediction of a square sectioned 180.deg. bend flow gives improved velocities and Reynolds stresses profiles compared with those obtained by using the van Driest mixing length model and present low Reynolds number Reynolds stress equation model.
A second moment turbulent closure for the turbulent heat flux near a wall is developed by modification of model constants in pressure interaction term as the variables of the turbulent Reynolds number using the universal properties of turbulent heat flux near the wall. The present model shows that model constant for the wall reflection term in pressure interaction is most important in modelling of the near wall heat flux. Fully developed pipe flows with constant wall heat flux are tested to validate the proposed model. In most of calculation region, the predicted turbulent properties agree better with the experimetal data than the results from standard algebraic heat flux model which use the uniform model constants.
This paper examines an assessment method for terminating the post-closure maintenance of a landfill using a simplified landfill gas model. The case study site is the Sudokwon Landfill in Incheon city, which was closed in 2000. The deviations of the results obtained by the regular model and the simplified model were both slightly over 10% from the measured data. Also, the deviation of the simplified model from the regular model has been less than 5% since 2005. Thus, the simplified model could be applied to other landfills that have been closed for at least 5 years. Additionally, the results of the mass balance analysis using the simplified landfill gas model indicated that 39% of the organic carbon was discharged, leading to organic carbon and organic matter content of 7.2 and 17.6%, respectively, in the landfill by the end of 2018.

The moment closure method is an approximation method to compute the moments for stochastic models of chemical reaction systems. In this paper, we develop an analytic estimation of errors generated from the approximation of an infinite system of differential equations into a finite system truncated by the moment closure method. As an example, we apply the result to an essential bimolecular reaction system, the dimerization model.
A brief introduction is given on the conditional moment closure model for turbulent nonpremixed combustion. It is based on the transport equations derived through a rigorous mathematical procedure for the conditionally averaged quantities and appropriate modeling forms for conditional scalar dissipation rate, conditional mean velocity and reaction rate. Examples are given for prediction of NO and OH in bluffbody flames, soot distribution in jet flames and autoignition of a methane/ethane jet to predict the ignition delay with respect to initial temperature, pressure and fuel composition. Conditional averaging may also be a powerful modeling concept in other approaches involved in turbulent combustion problems in various different regimes.
A low-Reynolds-number second moment turbulence closure is improved with the aid of DNS data. For the model coefficients of pressure-strain terms, we adopted Shima's model with some modification. Shin and Choi's new dissipation-rate equation is employed to simulate accurately the turbulence energy dissipation rate distribution in the near wall sublayer. The results of computations are compared with DNS, LES data and experimental data for turbulent plane channel flow with rotation about spanwise axis. The present second moment closure achieves a level of agreement similar to that for the non-rotating. In particular, it accurately captures the distribution of turbulence energy dissipation rate in the near wall region.
Sea dike construction for the tidal flat reclamation works in estuary and coast may change the characteristics of tidal motion and wave conditions in the region. In turn, a new hydraulic condition provides the impacts on sediment transport pattern and forms a new morphological environment. Also, morphological changes during the closure works of sea dike are closely related with a safy of sea dike. Therefore, the prediction of morphological changes is required secure the safe closure work and the economic design of sea dikes. To investigate morphological changes due to sea dike construction, hydrodynamic changes of tides and waves have to be evaluated, then sediment transport and sea bottom changes are computed. Mathematical modelling is required for representation of interrelation of tidal motion, wave and sediment transport. In this study, numerical model MORSYS is applied to compute the hydrodynamics and morphological changes around the closure gap for Saemankuem dike. This model allows a flexible integration of the module for waves, currents, sediment transport and bottom changes.
