20세기 초 유럽의 아동중심 교육철학에 따른 학습환경 개념에 대한 고찰 (A Study on the Concept of Learning Environment According to the Philosophy of Child-Centered Education in Europe in the Early 20th Century)

  • The main purpose of this research is to consider educational environment, concept, and spatial organization and its characteristic based on the early 20th century European child-centered educational philosophy. For this process, the study of the following have been done : 1) Literature review, which includes educational ideology, perspective of child development of Maria Montessori, Rudolf Steiner, Peter Peterson, and Celestin Freinet. 2) Comparisons of spatial organization and classrooms of schools operated with the educational philosophy of mentioned philosophers from above. These schools have classrooms(or multi-purpose space near classroom) contained self-directed individual learning space, group and collaborative learning space, and training space of practical life. These configuration of learning space intended 1) learning based on individual child's interest, experience 2) developing of responsibility based on freedom 3) sociality and community spirit of children.

초등학교 일반 교실 가구 개선을 위한 현황 및 제품 분석 연구 (A Study on the Status and Product Analysis for Improvement of Elementary School Classroom Furniture)

  • The elementary school classroom is a space where children spend a long time during the day, during the six years of childhood, in which children are emotionally sensitive and emotionally important. Therefore, it is necessary to create a classroom that can develop emotions considering the developmental characteristics of children. However, the elementary school classroom in Korea has less change in the classroom envir- onment than in the rapidly changing curriculum, and classrooms and furniture considering emotional development are hard to find. Therefore, this study suggests the necessity of improvement for classroom furniture of elementary school, presents problem and consideration condition of present classroom furniture by analyzing the present condition of elementary school classroom in Korea and child development characteristic of school age, and proposes the improvement direction through analyzing domestic and foreign classroom furniture products. To do this, we checked the physical and developmental characteristics of children ages 8 to 13, confirmed the use of the classroom furniture in 10 schools located in Seoul, Gye- onggi and Incheon, analyzed the problems of these furniture, compared and analyzed the shape, material, and color of the products of 32 domestic companies teaching tools manufacturers focusing on desks, chairs, lockers, and teaching aid box that are commonly used in classrooms. Through this, this study provided basic data for the selection of ideal classroom furniture in the future.

  • This study is performed to understand a trend of preference about classroom for special purposes related with elementary school relocation. It is anayzed based on the questionnaire of teachers at work in the two schools having similar educational environment. The results showed that it is desirable to locate rooms for science or practice in low story and music room in the lowermost or uppermost story. Rooms for art, linguistic education and computer had not limited any place. It is shown that the scale of each preparation room is significantly different with each grade and more large scale is needed in higher grade. These results reflect that the present arrangement of classrooms for special purposes is not adequate and require more reasonable arrangement with the grade in the architectural plans for relocation-needed elementary schools.

일본 초등학교 교사동 내외부의 영역별 계획 특성에 관한 연구 -1990년대 이후 최근 사례를 중심으로 (A Study on the Planning Characteristics of Contemporary Japanese Elementary Schools)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the planning characteristics of contemporary Japanese elementary schools. Fifteen schools, that have new planning trends or design ideas have been selected and analyzed. The planning characteristics of schools identified by plan analyses are summarized as follows. First, space programs of schools are diverse, especially in support facilities, gymnasiums and auditoriums. These spaces can be used by community members. So it is assumed that needs of communities are reflected in space programs of schools. Second, various types of unit learning spaces consisting of multipurpose spaces and classrooms embodied in case schools tell the differentiation in the structure of unit learning spaces. Third, grouped with gymnasiums or auditoriums, special instructional spaces constitute community zones where school facilities are open to public. Fourth, replacing the monotonous circulation systems by corridors, multipurpose hall-type space organization systems make surrounding spaces more activated and complex and the multipurpose hall itself becomes the central part of schools. Finally, outdoor spaces are designed to have convenient access and approach zones to school precincts are linked with city street.

주산의 역사와 우리나라 학교 주산교육 동향 (The History of Abacus and Trends of Abacus Calculation in Korean School Education)

  • This study reports the history of abacus calculation in the East and West and the changes in the curriculum of abacus calculation in Korea. The findings from this study are that abacus calculation education program already disappeared from public education and that it depends on private education institutes or after school classrooms. According to a case study, of the 110 elementary schools located in Changwon City and Gyeongsangnam-do Province, 74 schools were educating abacus as after-school programs.

신축학교 교실 실내공기 중 유해유기물질 농도와 초등학생의 신경행동기능에 관한 연구 (Hazardous Organic Compounds Concentration of Newly Built School Classroom and Neurobehavioral Performance of Elementary School Children)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of volatile organic compounds and formaldehyde of newly-built school classroom indoor air on the neurobehavioral functions of students. The elementary schools that were opened in September 2008(as of September 2008) was selected for newly-built school and the elementary school that were opened in March 2006 was selected for control group schools. The concentration of formaldehyde(HCHO), a hazardous organic compound that exists in the air of classrooms, exceeded the standard value of $108.2{\mu}g/m^3$ in newly-built schools while it was $60.8{\mu}g/m^3$ in control group schools, which is around 60% of the standard concentration. However, the concentration of the total volatile organic compounds(TVOCs) was $788.9{\mu}g/m^3$ and $756.1{\mu}g/m^3$ in newly-built schools and control group schools respectively, which are approximately two times higher than the standard concentration. In newly-built schools, the mean reaction time of additions and symbol digit, respectively 3,020ms and 2,398ms in pre-exposure were increased to 3,167ms and 2,514ms respectively in post-exposure. The difference of mean reaction time between pre and post exposure was 146.8 ms, or 4.6%, and 116.7ms, or 4.8%, respectively, showing statistically-significant increase of reaction time(p<0.05). On the contrary, the difference of reaction time of both tests were not statistically significant in the control group schools. These results showed that the neurobehavioral performance of newly-built schools students were affected by volatile organic compounds and formaldehyde of classroom indoor air.

초등학교 실내환경에서 공기 중 세균과 진균의 분리 및 특성 (Isolation and Characterization of Airborne Bacteria and Fungi in Indoor Environment of Elementary Schools)

  • 울산 소재 초등학교 3곳의 교실과 복도에서, 배양가능한 공기중 세균과 진균의 농도를 조사하고, 이들 미생물을 분리한 후 동정하였다. 세균과 진균의 포집에는 충돌식 공기 채취기를 사용하였으며, 세균수와 진균수의 측정에는 각각 plate count agar와 dichloran rose bengal chloramphenicol agar를 사용하였다. 학기 중 세균 농도는 교실에서 $168{\sim}3,887MPN/m^3$ 복도에서 $168{\sim}6,339MPN/m^3$의 범위였으며, 진균 농도는 교실에서 $34{\sim}389MPN/m^3$, 복도에서 $91{\sim}507MPN/m^3$의 범위로, 상황과 학교에 따른 측정값의 편차는 세균에서 진균보다 더 크게 나타났다. 분리한 세균의 84%는 그람양성으로 관찰되었는데, 전체 시험한 세균의 61%는 Micrococcus 속으로, 이중 75%는 M. luteus로 확인되었으며, Staphylococcus속은 전체의 10%수준이었다. Micrococcus 속의 주요 발생원은 사람으로 생각되며, 함유한 색소나 높은 세포벽 함량 등의 생리적 특징이 이들 세균의 공기중 생존력을 높이는 것으로 추측된다. 포집한 시료로부터 15속의 사상성 진균을 확인할 수 있었으며, Cladosporium 속, Aspergillus 속, Penicillium속 등이 분리한 진균의 69%를 차지하였다. 1개 학교의 교실에서는 Stachybotrys속이 검출되었는데, 이 속의 S. chartarum은 많은 진균독소를 생산하는 것으로 잘 알려져 있다. 독소생산과 관련이 깊은 Aspergillus 속, Penicillium속, Stachybotrys 속에 대한 종 수준에서의 동정, 분리한 진균의 독소생산능력, 공기중 진균독소 검출 및 진균 농도와의 상관관계 분석 등에 대한 보다 체계적인 연구가 필요하다고 판단된다.

국내 학교 교실의 실내음향성능 실태조사 (Analysis of the Acoustic Performance of Classrooms in Korea)

  • 학교 공간의 핵심인 교실의 음환경은 학생의 학습효과와 학업 성취에 매우 중요한 요소이다. 따라서 교실에서의 높은 음향성능 제고를 위한 다양한 노력들이 국내외적으로 끊임없이 이어져오고 있다. 그 결과로써 미국 및 영국의 경우 학교 교실의 잔향시간 및 배경소음을 바탕으로 한 교실의 용도 및 크기 별로 음환경 기준이 성립되어 있다. 그러나 우리나라의 경우 교실에 대한 대부분의 연구가 건축계획상의 특정한 사용 목적을 위해 이루어지고 있으며 이에 기초가 되는 학교 교실의 실내음향성능에 대한 실태 조사가 부족한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 학교 교실의 음환경 실태를 조사하기 위하여 국내 초등학교 및 중학교, 고등학교의 총 15개 교실을 선정하여 실내음향성능을 측정하였다. 각 학교 교실의 음환경 분석에 사용한 음향지표는 배경소음, 신호대잡음비, 잔향시간, 음명료도, 음성전달지수 등이 있다. 연구결과 배경소음의 경우 도로변에 위치한 학교에서 미국 및 영국의 기준인 35 dB(A)를 초과하는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 창문을 개방했을 때 신호대잡음비는 거의 모든 학교에서 기준을 초과하는 것으로 나타나 외부 소음에 의해 학생이 음성전달에 방해를 받을 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 잔향시간의 경우 일부 초등학교와 중학교에서 미국의 기준인 0.6 s를 초과하는 것으로 나타났으며 명료도는 모든 학교에서 높게 나타났다.

국내 일부학교 건축물의 실내공기질 평가 (The Assessment of Survey on the Indoor Air Quality at Schools in Korea)

  • Recently, indoor air quality (IAQ) in workplace, residential environments and schools has been concerned of people, scientists and related the public, and has recognized the health effects related to indoor air pollution. Therefore, this study was performed to investigate the characteristics of IAQ in 55 kindergartens, elementary school, middle schools, and high schools from June, 2004 to May, 2005 in Korea. We measured indoor air pollutants($PM_{10},\;CO_2$, HCHO, total bacteria colony(TBC), CO, radon, TVOCs, asbestos, and $O_3$), and physical factors(noise, temperature, relative humidity, and illumination) with necessary of management for IAQ in school. We classified into 5 kinds of the school by period since building completion, <1 year, 1-3 years, 3-5 years, and 5-10 years. The concentration of pollutants and the level of physical factors compared with standards and guidelines of IAQ on the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development. The major results obtained from this study were as follows. Temperature, relative humidity and illumination among the physical factors did not exceed the standards, but noise exceeded it. Asbestos and $O_3$ did not detect in surveyed classrooms. CO, TBC, TVOCs, and HCHO in kindergartens, TBC in elementary schools, TBC, TVOCs dnd HCHO in middle schools, and HCHO in high schools detected the standards. This study is conducted as a part of efforts to provide a foundational data for further relative researches on management of IAQ of school. Therefore, we suggest that country plan for management of IAQ in school should be established through long-term and continuous investigation for assessment on IAQ in school and health risk assessment for students.
