The shortest-paths problem is a fundamental problem in graph theory and finds diverse applications in various fields. This is why shortest path algorithms have been designed more thoroughly than any other algorithm in graph theory. A large number of optimization problems are mathematically equivalent to the problem of finding shortest paths in a graph. The shortest-path between a pair of vertices is defined as the path with shortest length between the pair of vertices. The shortest path from one vertex to another often gives the best way to route a message between the vertices. This paper presents an $O(n^2)$ time sequential algorithm and an $O(n^2/p+logn)$ time parallel algorithm on EREW PRAM model for solving all pairs shortest paths problem on circular-arc graphs, where p and n represent respectively the number of processors and the number of vertices of the circular-arc graph.
This paper investigates the load sharing of double circular arc helical gears considering the influence of assembly errors. Based on a load sharing formulae, a three-dimensional finite element tooth contact analysis (TCA) is implemented with commercial software package ANSYS. The finite element grid for the double circular arc gear contact model is automatically generated by using the APDL (ANSYS Parameter Design Language) embedded in ANSYS. The realistic rotation of gears is achieved by using a coupling degree-of-freedom method. Numerical simulations are carried out to exemplify the proposed approach. The distribution of contact stress and bending stress under specific loading conditions are computed and compared with those obtained from Hertz contact theory and empirical formulae to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed load sharing calculation formulae and TCA approach.
The study is to analyze and interpret lineaments and circular/arc structures on the Landsat TM images which cover the Korean peninsula and the attched islands except the Ulneung island. The Landsat TM images which cover the Korean territory are 23 scenes, and band 3 and band 5 were selected for the study from seven bands, because the both vands are sensitive on soil moisture and geological materials. Lineament trend analysis Sinian direction (NNE-SSW), Pyeongan direction(NW-SE), Yodong direction(NE-SW), Korean direction(NNW-SSE) and Danyang direction (WNW-ESE) are predominant lineament trands of Korea. Circular/arc structures can be devided into four categories according to their origin; 1) volcanic activity origin, 2) granite intrusion oringin, 3) structural origin and 4) the others.
Arcs are usually treated as significant features in the field of pattern recognition. This paper presents a method to detect arcs from digital planar curves and estimate their arc centers and radii by using geometric analysis. The deviation of distance between the original curve and the detected arc by the proposed method does not exceed a tolerant error. The experimental results show that the proposed method is available for the detection of arcs iron not only smooth but also heavily noisy curves.
A counter gear transmits the rotation angle, so the angular velocity ratio of the gear does not necessarily need to be constant in the meshing process. As a pinion has a small number of teeth when combined with an internal gear for counters, tooth interference can occur with the use of an involute curve. This paper introduces circular arcs that represent a tooth profile and fillet for the profile design of a pinion through the combination of arcs with lines. The straight line of a rack tooth represents the profile of a mating internal gear. Thus, the circular arc and line maintain contact during the rotation of the counter gear. This paper presents an analysis of the meshing of the circular arc tooth and rack tooth along with the properties of the counter gear, such as the change in rotational velocity and amount of backlash. The contact ratio of the counter gear is 1 because the tooth contact occurs between circular arcs and line. The initial position of tooth contact, which denotes the simultaneous contact of two teeth, is found. As the rotation of the pinion, only one tooth keeps the contact situation. This meshing property is analyzed by the geometrical constraints of the tooth profile in contact and the results are presented as graphical diagrams in which tooth-arc movements are superimposed.

A design method to achieve multiple band-rejection characteristics in a wideband circular slot antenna is presented. First, a wideband circular slot antenna fed by a coplanar waveguide is designed to operate in the frequency range between 2.3 and 11GHz, which covers WLAN, WiBro, WiMAX, and UWB frequency bands. Next, resonant frequency variations of rejection bands are examined with respect to different slot locations and lengths when slots are inserted on the ground conductor and the circular patch of the antenna. When arc-shaped slots are placed close to the circular transition from a feeding part, multiple notch bands are obtained. In this case, a half of the guided wavelength of the first notch band corresponds to the slot length and other notch bands are integer-multiple of the first band. Single notch band can be obtained when the slot is located off the transition part. Based on this study, a wideband circular slot antenna with five band-rejection frequency bands at 2.45, 3.5, 4.9, 7.35, and 9.8GHz is designed and fabricated. The first arc-shaped slots are located in the ground conductor close to the circular transition from a feeding part to generate notch bands at 2.45, 4.9, 7.35, and 9.8GHz, while the second slot for 3.73 GHz is placed on top side in the circular patch. The proposed design method is validated by good agreement between the simulated and measured results.
Physics simulation is an important part of many interactive 2D applications and collision detection and response is key component of this simulation. While methods for reducing the number of collision tests that need to be performed has been well researched, methods for performing the final checks with collision primitives have seen little recent development. This paper presents a new collision primitive, the n-arc, constructed from piecewise circular curves or biarcs. An algorithm for performing a collision check between these primitives is presented and compared to a convex polygon primitive. The n-arc is shown to exhibit similar, though slightly slower, performance to a polygon when no collision occurs, but is considerably faster when a collision does occur. The goodness of fit of the new primitive is also compared to a polygon. While the n-arc often gives a looser fit in terms of area, the continuous tangents of the n-arcs makes them a good choice for organic, soft or curved surfaces.

This paper performs the motion analysis for a disk cam and a follower mechanism using a circular arc method, a coordinate transformation method and an instant velocity method in order to find a contact point between the cam and the follower. Based on the proposed method, the displacement and the velocity are calculated by using the geometric relationships of the cam mechanism. Also, the acceleration is determined on using the central difference method. As the results, this paper presents the original curve and the analyzed curve for the motion analysis of the disk cam for an example.
A Gerotor hydraulic motor is a planar mechanism consisting of a pair of rotors one of which encloses another rotor. The motion of the inner-rotor relative to the outer-rotor is produced by the pressure difference between the adjacent chambers. A design method of inner-rotor tooth profile using unit tangential vectors is presented in this work. Based on the relationships derived, the influence of the eccentricity of inner-rotor and the radius of circular arc tooth on the flow rate, torque and curvatures were investigated. It was shown that the flow rate and mean torque is proportional to eccentricity, but inversely proportional to the radius of circular arc teeth. Also, the maximum value of the equivalent curvature is increased as the eccentricity and the radius of circular arc teeth increased.

Here is represented a vortex panel method to evaluate the performance characteristics of the 2-dimensional turbomachinery with circular arc blades or logarithmic blades. The present method is characterized by distributing small consecutive panels of linearly varing vortex strength satisfying boundary condition at control points and Kutta condition at trailing edge. To confirm the reliability of the present method, experimental result of a 2-D pump impeller of six circular arc blades is compared with the calculated one. As an application of the present method, figures are presented in series showing velocity and pressure distribution between blades.
