This study explored men's choice of fashion as a college major and, subsequently, a non-traditional career path. Such investigation is important to gain a better understanding of the motives and processes of selecting a non-traditional college major and subsequent career path. This research consulted several theoretical frameworks to guide the development of research questions and help interpret the findings of the study. Specifically, our study builds upon Holland's trait theory (1982), Gottfredson's (1981) circumscription theory, Farmer's (1985) model of career motivation, and Simpson's (2005) typology of men's non-traditional career entry. A qualitative method was used to explore men's experiences of selecting fashion as an academic major in college and deciding to pursue a career in the traditionally female-dominated field. Following the analysis of 22 individual interviews with male upperclassmen majoring in fashion, three topical areas emerged and we proposed a model of male students' path to a non-traditional college major. The model explains male students' dynamics of entering a non-traditional college major, the role of personal and social factors in the decision process as well as the role of future career orientation when choosing to study fashion as an academic major.
The Chungdo-type Pottery Culture, distributed through the middle part of the Korean peninsula, is chronologically located in the very former stage of the advent of ancient states. It has two different traditions of pottery manufacturing technique which are totally different in choosing raw materials, shaping, fixing and firing. It seems that two different traditions had been selectively applied by pottery type. In order to understand this peculiar cultural aspect, the pottery typology needs to be different from those applied to cultures where pottery was made and used under the single manufacturing tradition. This study tries to find the new pottery typology which best fits for the understanding the chronology of the Chungdo-Type Pottery Culture. For this purpose, I examined existing typologies, recognized their problems, and then build a new typology. As a result, I found that the former typologies misinterpreted the relative frequencies of each pottery type as different function or region. In this article, I propose the new pottery typology as building a primary classification within each function and region, and then synthesizing all of primary classifications. This new typology eliminates the factors of function and region in understanding the chronology of the Chungdo-Type Pottery Culture, and assorts the regional distinction by comparing pottery types in each region.
In real time applications, due to their effective cost and small size, wireless networks play an important role in receiving particular data and transmitting it to a base station for analysis, a process that can be easily deployed. Due to various internal and external factors, networks can change dynamically, which impacts the localisation of nodes, delays, routing mechanisms, geographical coverage, cross-layer design, the quality of links, fault detection, and quality of service, among others. Conventional methods were programmed, for static networks which made it difficult for networks to respond dynamically. Here, machine learning strategies can be applied for dynamic networks effecting self-learning and developing tools to react quickly and efficiently, with less human intervention and reprogramming. In this paper, we present a wireless networks survey based on different machine learning algorithms and network lifetime parameters, and include the advantages and drawbacks of such a system. Furthermore, we present learning algorithms and techniques for congestion, synchronisation, energy harvesting, and for scheduling mobile sinks. Finally, we present a statistical evaluation of the survey, the motive for choosing specific techniques to deal with wireless network problems, and a brief discussion on the challenges inherent in this area of research.
Background: Quality ratings could provide vital information to help people in choosing a nursing home. Purpose: This study investigated factors aligned with quality ratings of nursing homes. Methods: We employed a cross-sectional descriptive design to assess publicly available data on 1,354 nursing homes with 30 or more beds in the Republic of Korea. After excluding 289 nursing homes with no reported quality-evaluation ratings, we analyzed the 2015 data of 1,065 nursing homes. To prevent multicollinearity among independent variables, we carefully selected the final set of variables based on clinical and theoretical meaningfulness to direct nursing care. Quality, the ordinal outcome, was scored from 1 to 5 with a higher score indicating higher quality of the organization. We constructed a multivariate ordered logistic regression model. Results: Higher quality ratings of nursing homes was significantly related to the number of unoccupied beds (OR=0.99, p=.024), registered nurses (RNs) (OR=1.30, p=.003), qualified care workers (OR=1.03, p=.011), cognitive-improvement programs (OR=1.05, p=.024), and other programs for residents' activities (OR=1.09, p<.001). Conclusion: The number of RNs had the strongest influence on the publicly reported quality rating, while the rating of qualified care workers demonstrated little effect and that of nursing assistants had no effect. The number of RNs could be used as a crucial indicator for high-quality homes; more resident-engaging programs also demonstrated better quality of nursing home care.

Leader and leadership are one of the important aspects in the life of a country. This study aims to predict the intention of young voters to vote for state leader elections by expanding the theory of planned behavior to the Indonesian context. Apart from the importance of the presidential election, research rarely uses the theory of planned behavior, and to the best of researchers' knowledge, there are no studies that have applied the theory of planned behavior to predict the intention to vote for the president. Therefore, this study is an attempt to fill that gap. Two hundred questionnaires were distributed using non-probability purposive sampling. Data analysis was carried out using the structural equation modeling (SEM) approach. The results showed that attitude and behavior control were positively related to voters' intention to elect presidential candidates. Furthermore, information from social media also has a positive relationship with the attitude of choosing presidential candidates. However, the results also show that subjective norms do not have a significant relationship with voters' intention. This study contributes knowledge to researchers, practitioners, and policymakers about the factors that influence youth intention to vote in Indonesia, namely, attitudes, perceived behavior control, and information from social media.
Total joint arthroplasty is a successful joint replacement treatment that improves joint function and overall quality of life and provides pain relief. However, the prevalence of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) has become prevalent with the rise in the incidence of arthroplasty surgery. PJI occurs rarely following arthroplasty however presents with serious complications, including high morbidity. The identification of causative microorganisms is essential for the treatment of PJI. Managing PJI requires complex treatment strategies, including long-term antibacterial treatment, and significant medical costs can be incurred. The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Surgical Care Improvement Project guidelines recommend that prophylactic antibiotics such as first-generation cephalosporins be infused completely 1 hour before surgical incision. However, these preventative antibiotics are very limited, therefore risk factors must be identified to diagnosis and treat patients effectively. Moreover, determining antimicrobial susceptibility during artificial joint surgery and choosing the most appropriate treatment strategy following an accurate diagnosis of microbial infections are essential. In the present review, we describe the management, including the etiology, diagnosis, and classification of PJI, and approaches to its diagnosis using the available novel molecular diagnostic methods.
One of the important roles of medical schools is to support medical students in deciding upon their future career path or choosing their specialty. The purpose of this study is to suggest a career advising model and strategies for medical students through a systematic approach. This study consists of three parts. The first part introduces some main career theories: super's career development theory, career decision-making theory, social cognitive career theory, and ecosystem theory. The second part proposes a systematic career advising model using the results acquired from previous studies and theories. This model considers a medical school as a social system that consists of two domains (internal and external). This social system is considered as a complex where various factors interact with each other: students' individual characteristics, institutional policies and culture, curriculum and learning experience, students' perceived specialty characteristics, and aspects of the external environment such as healthcare systems. The third part suggests some career advising strategies based on a systematic approach that medical schools can apply. These research results can be used for designing career advising courses for medical students, integrating various career advising programs and resources of medical schools, and evaluating the outcomes of career advising programs at an institutional level.
This study was undertaken to compare meal skipping, snacking, and weight perceptions between students on-campus living alone and off-campus living with parents, in an urban college in the United States. The self-report survey was completed by 219 college students (on-campus=100, off-campus=119) between April and May 2012. Two-thirds (67%) of the respondents skipped at least one meal in the past week, and most participants showed strong desires to lose weight despite their normal/under-weight status. Significant differences between the two groups were obtained for the reason to skip a meal and the type of snack consumed. Compared to on-campus students, significantly higher values were obtained for off-campus students for choosing 'no time to prepare' as a meal skipping reason for lunch and dinner, and 'sweets' as a preferred snack. In addition to the group comparison, multiple regression results indicate that the body mass index (BMI) positively correlates with meal skipping and snacking frequencies. Younger students and female students were determined to have a higher frequency of meal skipping and morning snacking. Future research is required to study the dietary factors associated with living arrangements, to help college students develop healthy eating habits.
This study aimed to investigate the perceptions and preferences of foreigners residing in Korea towards K-fashion. It sought to provide suggestions for the future development of K-fashion targeting this growing demographic. The results revealed that the longer foreigners had lived in Korea, the more positively they rated Korean fashion, shopping, and culture. The majority of foreigners purchased K-fashion items online, with popular choices including T-shirts, jackets, shirts, and jeans. Both men and women identified shoulders as a common problematic area when wearing clothing, with some issues also reported in the lumbar region. In terms of preferences, younger males (teens and twenties) were more inclined towards fads and celebrity wear compared to older males (thirties and forties). Similarly, younger females (teens and twenties) showed a higher preference for functionality and celebrity wear compared to older females (thirties and forties). These findings suggest that men tend to prioritize aesthetic factors when choosing K-fashion, while women prioritize practical considerations. To better cater to foreign consumers, suggestions for the development of K-fashion include promoting it through K-pop stars, considering dimensions related to foreigners' shoulders when designing top items, diversifying colors, sizes, and patterns, and providing English versions of online shopping platforms.
This study aims to examine the effect of talent types on the purchasing behaviour of beauty-service products in 367 adults(female and male). The present study is the first to consider both talent types and the purchasing behaviour of beauty-service products correlates to appearance management behaviour. Frequency analysis showed that the mean of 8 talent types of 367 participants was 3.324. The highest talent type of 367 participants was interpersonal talent, the lowest talent type was logical-mathematical talent among 8 talent types. There were statistically significant relationships between the talent types(specially, bodily-kinesthetic talent and interpersonal talent) and the purchasing criteria of beauty-service products on the correlation analysis. And the effects of 8 talent types on the purchasing frequency of 4 beauty-service products were significant on the regression analysis, specifically, the results showed that the most significant among 8 talent factors was the interpersonal talent, next, the bodily-kinesthetic was. Thus, the more purchasing frequency of beauty-services products, the higher interpersonal talent were, and the better affinity with others were. As a results, the interpersonal talent factor and bodily-kinesthetic talent factor among 8 talent factors were ultimately affecting the appearance management behaviour. The higher the score, it was concluded that the subject was more active in beauty-related behavior. Conclusively, the appearance is a form of personal asset for one's self-fulfillment, and strong and beautiful appearance is a medium to improve self-esteem and dominance. It is possessing a significant influence in personal satisfaction, self-identity, and social success.
