Factors Influencing the Decision of Vietnamese Students to Study English in the Philippines

  • This paper aims to develop a conceptual framework for evaluating the impact of factors influencing the decision of Vietnamese students to study English in the Philippines. The empirical analysis used data from the survey data of 318 respondents living in Vietnam. Comprehensive, valid, and reliable tools (SPSS 26 software) are used to analyze and verify the gathered data, and the hypotheses developed. The results identified the factors that affect the decision of Vietnamese students to study English in the Philippines include knowledge and awareness, personality recommendation, cost issues, environment, geographic proximity, and social link. Based on the overall findings of this study, several implications are presented for educational practices in academies and schools about English teaching in the Philippines. To increase the ability to get students to study English in the country, it is important that schools or academies must understand the demands of students regarding the academic environment, and in particular, to know what factors determine the decision from the customers' point of view. This study contributes significantly to the understanding of agencies and educational managers about the student's choice behavior in the context of the need to improve foreign languages and, thus, help improve the competitiveness of agencies and English schools.

취업희망분야와 의사결정 영향요인의 관계에 관한 연구 -식품영양 및 외식$\cdot$조리 전공자를 중심으로- (Investigation of Factors Influencing Career Decision-Making of Students in Foodservice Management and Culinary Arts Programs)

  • The purposes of the study were to identify important attributes in foodservice management and culinary arts students' career decision-making and to investigate factors determining their preferred employment fields. A questionnaire that consisted of preferred employment fields, importance rating of 19 attributes related to job choices, and demographic information was developed based on a review of literature. A total of 319 students enrolled in food and nutrition, foodservice management, and culinary arts programs of eight 2-year colleges and 4-year universities in Seoul and Kyunggi Province participated in the survey. Data were analyzed using SPSS Win (version 10.0) with descriptive statistics, chi-square analysis, one-way analysis of variance, factor analysis, and discriminant analysis. Attributes of the highest importance scores included fringe benefits, wages and promotion opportunities, working environments, professional development opportunities, and organizational culturs. The students who preferred non-commercial foodservice as a career choice depended more on 'word-of-mouth from faculty' than those who preferred other fields (F=3.094, p < .05) and rated importance of 'participation in job fairs' higher than those who selected hotel food and beverage (F : 5.048, p < .01) . A factor analysis of the 19 attributes resulted in five factors: job/compensation policy, impersonal communication, company image, word-of-mouth, and personal experience. The five factors explained $67\%$ of the total variance. A discriminant analysis revealed that students who perceived 'impersonal communication' and 'word-of-mouth' more important were likely to prefer non-commercial foodservice as a career choice. The results would be used by university faculty in advising graduating students on career selection and by recruiters in developing effective and attractive recruiting programs.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify personal, contextual, and cognitive factors influencing the career preparation behavior of Korean nursing students. In this study, an examination was done of the fitness of a path model for the relationship among these factors based on the social cognitive career theory. Methods: The participants were 413 nursing students in South Korea. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires that included self-esteem, social support, self-efficacy, outcome expectation, career decision level, and career preparation behavior. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, and path analysis. Results: The factors influencing career preparation behavior were self-efficacy, career decision level, self-esteem, outcome expectation, and social support. The factors influencing career decision level were self-efficacy, outcome expectation, self-esteem, and social support. Conclusion: The findings indicate that self-efficacy is an important factor influencing the career behavior of Korean nursing students. Nurse educators should consider personal, contextual, and cognitive factors of nursing students and develop systemic career guidance programs to help nursing students' career preparation behavior.

과학영재교육원의 교육활동이 학생들의 과학 관련 진로 선택에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Educational Activities at Science Gifted Education Center on the Student's Science-related Career Choice)

  • 본 연구에서는 과학영재교육원 수료생들 중에서 과학 관련 특수목적 고등학교(이하 과학 관련 특목고)로 진학한 학생들을 대상으로 자신의 진로를 결정하는데 과학영재교육원이 어떠한 영향을 주었는지에 대해서 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 30명의 학생을 연구 대상으로 설문지와 심층면담을 통해 과학영재교육원 입학전 진로, 입학 동기를 알아보고 과학영재교육원 활동 중에서 자신의 진로 결정에 영향을 준 요인을 찾아 확인하는데 초점을 맞추었다. 개방적 탐구활동과 사회적 상호작용을 강조하는 과학영재교육원 활동이 학생들의 과학 관련 진로 결정에 어떻게 긍정적인 영향을 미치고 있는지 확인하여 과학영재교육원의 운영 방향을 재조명하고자 하였다.

  • Rapid globalization of production and marketing functions makes choice of international transportation mode of great importance. In this paper, transportation mode is characterized by two factors, mean and variability of transportation lead time. We developed a simple mathematical model to estimate the relative impact of mean lead time, lead time variance and demand variance on the required average inventory level under specified service rates.

경호학과 학생들의 전공수업만족도가 진로 결정 효능감에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Class Satisfaction among Students in the Department of Security Services on Career Decision Efficacy)

  • 본 연구는 경호학을 전공하는 대학생을 대상으로 전공수업만족도가 진로 결정 효능감에 미치는 영향에 대해 알아보는데 있으며, 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 성별에 따른 전공수업만족도와 진로 결정 효능감의 차이에서는 전공수업만족도의 하위변인 중 학습요인, 대인관계, 적성요인, 진로요인, 진로 결정 효능감의 하위변인 중 미래계획, 목표해결, 직업정보, 문제해결에서 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 소속 학교와 학년에 따른 전공수업만족도와 진로 결정 효능감의 차이에서는 전공수업 만족도의 하위변인 중 학습요인, 대인관계, 적성요인에서 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 전공수업만족이 미래계획에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과 전공수업만족도의 학습요인, 적성요인, 진로요인이 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 전공수업만족이 목표해결에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과 전공수업만족도의 학습요인, 적성요인이 목표해결에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 전공수업만족이 직업정보에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과 전공수업만족도의 적성요인, 진로요인이 직업정보에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 여섯째, 전공수업만족이 문제해결에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과 전공수업만족도의 진로요인이 문제해결에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

A Study on the Media Consumers' Behavior Related to Online Communications: Behavioral Economics Perspective

  • This research investigates the media consumers' behavior with behavioral economics perspective, especially regarding TV content viewers' behavior; how do online communications influence TV viewers' decision when choosing a new TV content among options. We focus on quantity and attribute of comments or reactions on the online news articles. We analyze that online communications data, which were generated before the first broadcast, affect the TV content consumers' choice for a new TV series. Here we identify a predicted utility, experienced utility and distinction bias in TV media consumption to find the effectiveness of the first viewing choice on whole TV series' episodes. To avoid the crucial influence by exogenous factors, such as season and social issue, the test was done with specific conditions. This research found that the total number of reactions to the comments by itself positively affects the audiences' decision-making behavior for a new TV content choice. This influence was regardless of favor/ non-flavor reactions. This study contributes to the literature on media economics and management by exploring the media content users' consuming behavior and making a first step for finding an important influencer on the media content consumption.

치위생과 학생의 성인애착유형이 우울, 자아존중감, 공감능력과 진로결정에 미치는 영향 (Effects of dental hygiene student's adult attachment type on depression, self-esteem, empathy and career decision)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the importance of healthy attachment formation by examining the effects of dental hygiene students' adult attachment patterns on depression, self-esteem, empathy, and career choice, and to present basic data for career guidance that considers individual characteristics. Students enrolled in the dental hygiene department at a university in Daejeon were the subjects of this study, and data were collected from September 14 to October 14, 2020 through self-reported questionnaires. Frequency analysis, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were performed. As a result of classifying adult attachment styles into three types, out of a total of 158 people, 62 (39.2%) had the avoidant attachment style, 56 (35.4%) had the secure attachment style, and 40 (25.3%) had the anxious-ambivalent attachment style appear. Self-esteem according to attachment type (F=26.224, p<0.0001), empathy (F=3.944, p<0.05), depression (F=12.702, p<0.0001), career indecisiveness (F=4.367, p<0.05). Based on the results of identifying the sub-factors that affect the dental hygiene and adult attachment styles of students with depression, self-esteem, empathy and career choice, this study intends to use them as reference materials for career decision taking into account individual characteristics.

  • 스마트폰은 기존의 피처폰보다 뛰어난 컴퓨팅 성능과 우수한 네트워크 연결성 등의 장점으로 그 사용이 확대되고 있다. 스마트폰 시장의 성장에 따라 수많은 제품들이 출시되고 있으며 사람들은 여러 가지 기준을 통하여 자신에게 적합한 제품을 선택한다. 스마트폰 관련 연구는 최근 점차 늘어나고 있으나 스마트폰의 평가에 관한 연구는 아직 부족한 실정이다. 본 논문은 스마트폰 선택 및 사용 시에 중요하게 고려되는 요인들을 도출하고 요인들 간의 상대적인 중요도를 파악하기 위해 수행되었다. 먼저 문헌조사와 표적집단(focus group) 인터뷰를 통하여 스마트폰의 선택 및 이용에 영향을 미치는 평가요인들을 도출하고, 도출된 평가요인들을 각각 쌍대 비교하여 각 요인에 대한 상대적 중요도를 산출하였다. 응답이 갖는 모호함을 해결하기 위해 퍼지 계층분석과정(Fuzzy AHP: Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process) 기법을 이용하였으며 응답자 중 스마트폰 사용자와 비사용자 집단을 구분하여 그 중요도의 차이를 비교 분석하고, 분석 결과에 따른 실무적 의의를 기술하였다.

내·외부고객의 병원선택요인이 병원이미지에 미치는 영향 (The Impact of Hospital Selection Factors between Internal and External Customers on Hospital Image)

  • Background: The purpose of this study is to grasp the factors forming hospital image and to measure evaluation of internal and external customers towards hospital choice factors. Methods: This study is based 4 types of choice factor such as physical, human, accessibility, and connection. Data were assessed using 98 patients and 96 internal employees who work at A general hospital in Seoul and 116 patients and 97 internal employees at B general hospital in Chunkcheongbuk-do. Data were collected with self-administered questionnaires from February 17 to April 29 in 2012 and analyzed SPSS ver. 18.0 by using frequency, t-test, analysis of variance, correlation, and multiple regression. Results: The results of this study show that factors affecting hospital image is significant different between internal and external customers of hospital A and B. Expecially the finding of this study will be applied to improve connection factors in administrative department of hospital for hospital image. Conclusion: This study presents primary data for correct decision making to authorities of local hospitals that have concern about marketing strategy for hospital image.
