Micro machining can manufacture complex shapes with high accuracy. Especially, this enables wide application of micro technology in various fields. For example, micro channels allow fluid transfer, which is a widely used technology. Therefore, liquidity research of flow in micro channels and micro channel manufacturing with use of various materials and cutting conditions has very important meaning. In this study, to find out correlation between fluid velocity in micro channels and surface roughness, we manufactured micro channels using micro end-mill and dropped ethanol into micro channels. We compared several surface roughness and fluid velocity in micro channels that were created by various processing conditions. Finally, we found out relationship between fluid velocity and surface roughness in micro channels of different materials.
The behavior of the work materials in the chip-tool interface in extremely high strain rates and temperatures is more that of viscous liquids than that of normal solid metals. In these circumstances the principles of fluid mechanics can be invoked to describe the metal flow in the neighborhood of the cutting edge. In the present paper an Eulerian finite element model is presented that simulates metal flow in the vicinity of the cutting edge when machining a low carbon steel with carbide cutting tool. The work material is assumed to obey visco-plastic (Bingham solid) constitutive law and Von Mises criterion. Heat generation is included in the model, assuming adiabatic conditions within each element. the mechanical and thermal properties of the work material are accepted to vary with the temperature. The model is based on the virtual work-stream function formulation, emphasis is given on analyzing the formation of the stagnant metal zone ahead of the cutting edge. The model predicts flow field characteristics such as material velocity effective stress and strain-rate distributions as well as built-up layer configuration
We developed a microfluidic platform able to control the trap and release of magnetic beads used for separation of a specific biomolecules. The magnetic beads can be trapped and released conditionally by controlling the difference between the Stokes force induced by the fluid flow and magnetic force resulting from a permanent magnet. The permanent magnet of CoNiP alloy is electroplated. It is characterized to have the 1369 Oe of coercivity, 1762 Gauss of remanence, and 0.603MGOe of (BH)max. Through the experimental and numerical investigation, the magnetic beads are trapped under the flow velocity of 17 ${\mu}m/s$ and are released perfectly above the velocity of 174 ${\mu}m/s$.
In this paper, the flow velocity/mass sensor which is based on the principle of CCT(Constant Chip Temperature) and its digital operating circuit and system have been developed and tested. The experimental result for flow velocity shows that the sensitivity is $644.01{\mu}W^2/[m/sec]$ for air, and there is nearly no hysteresis for full measured range of velocity. Response tine is between 1 second and 8 seconds for low and large velocity variation, respectively.
The aim of this work was to establish an optimal condition for determination of apparent density and flow rate for warm compacting powder. For this purpose it was evaluated uncertainty on them according to ISO Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement. This evaluation example would be useful even in powder fluidity measurement at room temperature.
The discharge gap clearly is to order and to promote the improvement of processing feature of die-sinking electro discharge machining(EDM). If creation carbon, which generated by pyrolysis of EDM oil and processing pace power which is generated in between an electrode and a workpiece, are overproduced, they will lower the processing speed and roughness of the surface. Therefore, it is gone through the .flow analysis of EDM oil in order to improve the treatment of processing chips, which is an important problem by contriving a new flushing method. The condition of an electric discharge is not considered to be a progressing of processing. It is assumed that the flow of processing fluid is equal to the flow of processing chip, which is remaining in the discharge gap, and analyzing its correlation.
A normally open thermopneumaticc-actuated microvalve has been fabricated and their properties are investigated. The advantages of the proposed microvalve are of the low cost fabrication process and the transparent optical property using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and indium tin oxide (ITO) glass. The fabricated microvalves with in-channel configuration are easily integrated with other microfluidic devices on the same substrate. The fabrication process of thermopneumatic-actuated microvalvesusing PDMS is very simple and its performance is very suitable for a disposable lab-on-a-chip. The PDMS membrane deflection increases and the flow rates of the microchannel with microvalvels decrease as the applied power to the ITO heater increases. The powers at flow-off are dependent on the membrane thickness and the applied inlet pressure but are independent of the channel width of microvalves. The flow rate is well controlled by the switching function of ITO heater and the closing/opening times are around 20 sec and 25 sec, respectively.
Machining operations require removal of chips to keep the coolant clean and fresh throughout the operation time. In this study, microchip removal equipment was developed using AutoCAD and CATIA programs for 3D modeling and 2D draft. In addition, the flow analysis and electromagnetic field analysis of the equipment were performed using the COMSOL Multiphysics program. The flow design of the coolant oil tank was realized on the basis of fluid analysis results. Further, on the basis of magnetic density analysis, a conveyer was designed for effectively removing metal microchips in the tank by using arrays of neodymium permanent magnets.
LOC(Lab on a chip)에 관한 연구는 활발하게 연구되어진다.
