It is well-known fact that woodworking activity could contribute in enhancing creativity, scientific problem-solving ability, spatial perception ability and prosocial behavior of children. However, there is little chance that children experience woodworking at home or in kindergarten. This study was conducted to know how much children and adults have done woodworking in there daily life and how they perceived children's woodworking activity. Woodworking activities for children (N=207, 5 and 6 year old kids) with adults (N=271, only fathers) were carried out in 10 kindergartens of Cheongju. Actually, the survey result shows that very few children and adults experienced woodworking in their daily life. 62.8% of children and 34.3% of adults surveyed responded that they had never done woodworking. However, the greater part of children and adults evaluated the woodworking activity positively. Over 95% of children surveyed responded that their woodworking activity was fun and they want to play woodworking again. Over 73% of adults surveyed responded that children's woodworking activity was safe, and over 99% of adults surveyed responded that they can recommend children's woodworking activity to others. In conclusion, the development of safe tools and programs for children's woodworking activity helps its spread and activation.

Objective : The purpose of this research is understanding relevancy of school ages'ability of sensory process and preference of what they want to play, and studying of main reason of impact of sensory process to preference of what school ages want to play. Methods : During 22 to 24 October 2012, our group evaluated and analyzed ability of sensory process and preference of what children want to play by using Short Sensory Profile (SSP) and Pediatric Interest Profile (PIP) to elementary school children in fourth grade at Kimhae city in Kyungnam province. Results : For the total population of an ability of sensory process and frequency, preference, and proficiency of eight different games, preference of outdoor activities appears to be related to total score of sensitivity to taste and smell and filter of hearing. For preference and proficiency of creative activities appears to be related to sensitivity of taste and smell. Preference of lessons and classes related to total scores of sensitivity of tactile sensation, taste and smell, movement, and filter of hearing, and sensitivity of visual and hearing. Frequency and proficiency of lessons and classes are inter-related to sensitivity of visual and hearing. Conclusion : This research shows that there is no inter-relationship between function of sensory process and preference of what children want to play, however certain games relevantly show the inter-relationship. The research provides the basic data of what the preference of what children want to play and determine what children can play during occupational therapy with plays after studying inter-relationship of school ages'ability of sensory process and games.
Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the pattern of computer game play and emotional and behavioral characteristics of 5th and 6th grade elementary school children in Jeonju city. Methods : Fifth and sixth graders from two elementary schools (N=413, M=214, F=199) were chosen to participate in this study. The participants completed self-report questionnaires designed by the authors, and were also evaluated based on a computer game addiction scale, state-trait anxiety inventory for children, children's depression inventory and Piers-Harris children's self-esteem scale. The parents of the participants determined the disruptive behavior rating scale of the participants. Results : Positive links were reported between the pattern of computer game play (years of computer game experience, average length of each computer game play session, average time spent on computer game play per day, and average frequency of computer game play per week) and scores of computer game addiction scale. In addition, significant correlation was found between the internalized problems of children (trait anxiety, state anxiety, depression, and self-esteem), and computer game addiction scale score, among both sexes (p<0.01). There were significant correlations between game addiction scale score and inattention (p<0.01) as well as total attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) score (p<0.05) in girls. Conclusion : Our findings suggest that computer game addiction is related to symptoms of internalizing, particularly to the trait anxiety. Significant positive correlations between game addiction scale score and externalized behavioral problems were found only in girls.
The purpose of this study was to explore musical development of 3- to S-year-old children and their musical home environment. The subjects were one hundred ninety-four children and their mothers enrolled in four kindergartens in Seoul. Each child sang the birthday song with peers in a birthday play setting. It was audiotaped for the children to sing the song. Questionnaire of musical home environment developed by the researchers was used for the mothers. The children's rhythm and pitch development were coded by the scoring categories of Project Spectrum(Krechevsky, 1994). The data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe, and Pearson correlation. The results of this study were as follows: Firstly, there was no a significant difference in the children's rhythm development among three age-groups as well as between boys and girls. Among rhythm subcategories, the unit of note was ranked in the highest score and the pulse the next. Secondly, there were significant differences in children's pitch development among three age-groups and between boys and girls. The older children significantly achieved higher scores than the younger. Among pitch subcategories, the contour was ranked in the highest score and the interval the next. Thirdly, the children's musical development and their physical home environment related to music were correlated positively. The children's pitch development was significantly related to the mothers' musical attitude and the children's rhythm development to the mothers' educational levels.
The purpose of this study was teacher's perception on young children's safety life, safety accident, and safety education and provided basic data of administrating teacher's education for young children's safety. Subjects of this study were teachers of young children attending for their education. 230 questionnaires were provided and 181 were collected and 170 were used for data analysis. Data collected were analyzed with SPSS WIN 2.0 program. The results of the study were as follows : 1. Regarding teacher's perception on types of young children's safety accident, play accident was high(70.0%). 2. With regard to teacher's perception on causes of accident, lacks of perception was high(64.1%). 3. Of transportation means in accident, 119 ambulance use was high(60.5%) 4. Regarding teacher' perception on accident prevention, direct attention of education by paramedics was high(48.2%).
This study was to examine the relationship between maternal interactive behaviors and stuttering behaviors in preschool children who stutter. Participants were twenty-four children who stutter and their mothers. For the purpose of the current study, 5$\sim$10 minutes of 50 minutes videotaped scenes originally collected to develop fluency assessment instrument were re-videotaped. They included mother-child interactions during playing with toys and reading book situations. Mothers-children interactive behaviors were assessed with Maternal Behavior Rating Sroles(MBRS) and Child Behavior Rating Scales (CBRS). And children's stuttering were assessed with Paradise-Fluency Assessment(P-FA). The results were as follows: 1) the maternal interactive behavior did not significantly differ depending on situations, but scores of maternal responsive factor were higher in the play situation than in the reading situation. 2) Maternal responsiveness might influence on promoting the children's pivotal behavior with children who stutter. And 3) the level of maternal responsiveness was the predictor of children's stuttering behaviors. The therapeutic implication of the results were discussed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the seating style of children between Korea and USA viewed from activity analysis in child-care centers. Observation and depth-interview method were used for data collection. Ninety-eight children aged from 38 to almost 62 months were observed for five minutes three times during an indoor free play period in Korea and USA in 2003 and 2004. The results of the research were as follows. There were significant differences between the postures of Korean and American children. Korean children maintained floor-seating postures longer than chair-seating and standing postures. The factors such as sex, age and physical environment influenced the children's seating style, while playing-type influenced their posture. This study will contribute to our understanding of the physical environment and children's seating style according to culture.
The purpose of this study was to find out the feature of children's play according to a player number restriction rule in the free choice activities. And it is expected that the result of this study will contribute to improving the management of free choice activities. The participants of this study were a homeroom teacher, professor as a co-researcher and 25 4-year-old children of a private kindergarten. The data were collected by observation, children interview and reflective journal of the teacher from July to October in 2014. The results indicated that the children were stressed out with using name cards for presenting center selection, showed overcompetitive behaviors, and frequently violated the rules. The researchers found that the restriction rule had some dysfunctions, which were interferences of moral development, social-emotional development, self-regulation development, preventing safety-accident and free choice behavior. The researcher as a teacher abandoned the player number restriction rule, and observed the children's play. As a result, children's self-regulation abilities on physical space, play and conflicts improved and the teacher changed her strategy when managing free choice activities. Based on the results, the needs of various restriction rules and appropriate methods for applying the rules in free choice activities were further discussed.
This study aims to be the useful resources for selecting play therapy facility in the future by analysis of used colors in the play therapy facility as the subsequent studies of the thesis of KIID in 2010, titled 'Study on the planning factors of case study for children's play therapy center'. As research method of this study, the overall understanding about play therapy facility was improved through theoretical considerations, and it was about the Moon-Spencer's theory of color harmony which will be used for the framework of case study. In Section 3, the field trips at 6 facilities were conducted as the case research and the data research through website was conducted for case study. Moon-Spencer's theory of color harmony used the Munsell's color Order System, so after measuring CMYK value of the picture for the case research through photo shop, the color, brightness and saturation were measured through Munsell Conversion program. The following three kinds of features were drawn by research of the harmony and disharmony of used colors for the cases after substituting the theory of color harmony through the measured color. brightness, and saturation. First. series Y and YR were used mainly for warm image as the concept of play therapy room. Second, the various colors were used for comfortable image like home. But the various patterns were used by mixing for the therapy room F, so it gives confusing impression. Third, series YR and achromatic color as the color of wood were used unavoidably for using materials of manufactured goods.
As the paradigm which emphasizes nurturing creative elites is introduced, more attention has been paid to children playing and their creativity. This change means that the importance of creativity is emphasized in the education of children, and furthermore, playgrounds which focus on creativity and imagination are needed. Therefore, this study examines the spatial characteristics of playgrounds for children and suggested strategies to improve them. There are five spatial characteristics of a creative playground: aesthetics, being eco-friendly, exploration, challenging and variable. Through the five characteristics, playgrounds were analysed based on ten expressive elements and the results are summarized: Creative playgrounds for children should have an attractive design with sculptural elements which stimulate children to be excited through associable shapes and abstract colors. Second, shelter type structures and a flexible flow design are needed so that children can feel free and be encouraged to explore in diverse ways. Third, as playgrounds for children provide spaces for rest in addition to play, organic facilities and eco-friendly materials for the rest space should to be used. Fourth, as childhood is a period when emotional, cognitive and physical development are achieved, organic geographical features and atypical facilities should be provided so that children can acquire extensive skills and join in physical activities. Finally, creative playgrounds for children should have mobile or variable facilities which consider the characteristics of children who want to do diverse activities and play different games. This study analysed playgrounds for children and suggested strategies to improve them. For successful design and use of creative playgrounds, it is suggested that intensive research on them and consultation with experts should be considered.
