  • Door effort was calculated for a new door checker with torsion bar spring and integrated checker case by FE analysis. A hybrid checker arm which has peaks and valleys only on the upper surface was adopted to reduce noise in operation and make operation with more distinctive steps. The checker arm was modeled using shell elements to estimate both the longitudinal and the lateral resistance force by checker arm. By combining the checker arm resistance force obtained from analysis and the door self-closing force by the theoretical calculation, door effort was predicted to show the good correlation with test results. In addition the unrolling effect of roller model was investigated and a new roller type for more smooth rolling was studied.

  • Model checking method is able to check all possible cases automatically and is applicable to specifications or design before actual implementation so that some critical systems have adopted this method actively. However, the current practice of software verification is largely dependant on basic methods such as manual testing because of lack of understanding about this rigorous method and high verification cost. In this paper we conducted an experimental research for the automated verification using the SPIN model checker on an online-game server to study the applicability of the technique in this domain. The results show that we could verify major features of the online-game server party system with 5~7 GB memory and within 10 minutes execution time, and also found a hidden system error that passed existing testing process. This result shows the possibility of rigorous and effective verification with reasonable cost in comparison to manual testing.

  • In this paper, we introduce an automatic system of scoring English essays. The system is comprised of three main components: a spelling checker, a grammar checker and a lexical cohesion checker. We have used such resources as WordNet, Link Grammar/parser and Roget's thesaurus for these components. The usefulness of an automatic scoring system depends on its reliability. To measure reliability, we compared the results of automatic scoring with those of manual scoring, on the basis of the Kappa statistics and the Multi-facet Rasch Model. The statistical data obtained from the comparison showed that the scoring system is as reliable as professional human graders. This system deals with textual units rather than sentential units and checks not only formal properties of a text but also its contents.

  • This paper proposes a spoken Korean processing model which is extensible to large vocabulary continuous spoken Korean system. The integration of phoneme level speech recognition with natural language processing can support a sophisticated phonological/morphological analysis. The model consists of a diphone speech recognizer, a viterbi dictionaly searcher and a morpheme connectivity information checker. Two-level hierarchical TDNNs recognize newly defined Korean diphones. The diphone sequences are segmented and converted to the most probable morpheme sequences by the Viterbi dictionary searcher. The morpheme sequency are then examined by the morpheme connectivity information checker and the correct morpheme sequence which has the greatest probability is collected. The experiments show that the morphological analysis for spoken Korean can be achieved for 328 Eojeols with 80.6% success rate.

  • A valid scenario generation is essential for model checking software. This paper suggests an automated scenario generation technique through the analysis of function called-by graphs and call graphs of the program source code. We provide the verification process including the scenario generation and show application results on the Trampoline operating system using CBMC as a back-end model checker.

  • The most important non-functional requirements for dependability of any Embedded Real-Time Safety Systems are safety, availability and reliability requirements. System architecture plays the primary role in achieving these requirements. Compliance with these non-functional requirements should be ensured early in the development cycle with appropriate considerations during architectural design. In this paper, we present an application of system architecture modeling for quantitative assessment of system dependability. We use probabilistic model checker (PRISM), for dependability analysis of the DTMC model derived from system architecture model. In general, the model checking techniques do not scale well for analyzing large systems, because of prohibitively large state space. It limits the use of model checking techniques in analyzing the systems of practical interest. We propose abstraction based compositional analysis methodology to circumvent this limitation. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology has been demonstrated using the case study involving the dependability analysis of safety system of a large Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR).

  • UML (Unified Modeling Language) is widely used to analyze and design target software. Developers also implement the target software based on the UML artifacts. However, it is difficult to validate whether the artifacts are generated to correspond to the modeling guidelines because the guidelines for UML modeling are described in natural language. This paper discusses rule based model checker focused on whether models are designed according to modeling methodology. We propose rules and their own checker, named GARDIAN, for UML model validation. The checkers are designed for COMET method for the real-time embedded system. We illustrate our checkers using Intelligent Robot system to validate our approach.

  • In this paper, we are interested in checking equivalence of FSMs(finite state machines). Two FSMs are equivalent if and only if their responses are always equal with each other with respect to the same external stimuli. Equivalence checking FSMs makes complicated FSM be substituted for simpler one, if they are equivalent. We can also determine the system satisfies the requirements, if they are all written in FSMs. In this paper, we regard equivalence checking problem as model checking one. For doing so, we construct the product model $M ={M_A} {\beta}{M_B} from two FSMs ${M_A} and {M_B}$. And we also get the temporal logic formula ${\Phi}$ from the equivalence checking definition. Then, we can check with model checker whether if satisfies ${\Phi}$, written $M= {.\Phi}$. Two FSMs are equivalent, if $M= {.\Phi}$ Otherwise, it is not equivalent. In that case, model checker generates counterexamples which explain why FSMs are not equivalent. In summary, we solve the equivalence checking problem with model checking techniques. As a result of applying to several examples, we have many satisfiable results.
