  • The use of filling material based on cement paste is inefficient at field construction because it needs a lot of the charging mass. In addition, it has environmental problem according to the large amount of cement use because its strength is also larger than criterion. The excavated soil with stabilizer can be used as the filling materials when the bored pile is constructed. Therefore, this paper describes field application of solidified soil for economical efficiency and environment-friendly. The static axial load tests and the load-transfer measurements were performed to examine the axial resistant behavior of the piles. As results, the flowability, segregation and bleeding, and bond strength of filling materials was a good performance than that of the existing cement paste. But the skin friction of pile by PDA was slightly decreased than that of the existing cement paste. However, as pile filling materials, and in terms of economics and environment, the applicability of filling material is considered very effective.

  • A systematic study of microbial fuel cells comprised of thermophilic Bacillus licheniformis and Bacillus thermoglucosidasius has been carried out under various operating conditions. Substantial amount of electricity was generated when a redox mediator was used. Being affected by operation temperature, the maximum efficiency was obtained at 50$^{\circ}C$ with an open circuit voltage of ca. 0.7 V. While a small change around the optimum temperature did not make much effect on the cell performance, the rapid decrease in performance was observed above 70$^{\circ}C$. It was noticeable that fuel cell efficiency and discharge pattern strongly depended on the kind of carbon sources used in the initial culture medium. In the case of B. thermoglucosidasius, glucose alone was utilized constitutively as a substrate in the microbial fuel cell irrespective of used carbons sources. When B. licheniformis was cultivated with lactose as a carbon source, best charging characteristics were recorded. Trehalose, in particular, showed 41.2% coulombic efficiency when B. thermoglucosidasius was cultured in a starch-containing medium. Relatively good repetitive operation was possible with B. thermoglucosidasius cells up to 12 cycles using glucose as a carbon source, when they were cultured with lactose as an initial carbon source. This study demonstrates that highly efficient thermophilic microbial fuel cells can be constructed by a pertinent modulation of the operating conditions and by carefully selecting carbon sources used in the initial culture medium.

  • In this paper, we propose a scheme that minimizes the energy imbalance problem of solar-powered wireless sensor network (SP-WSN) using both a mobile sink capable of wireless power transfer and an efficient clustering scheme (including cluster head election). The proposed scheme charges the cluster head using wireless power transfer from a mobile sink and mitigates the energy hotspot of the nodes nearby the head. SP-WSNs can continuously harvest energy, alleviating the energy constraints of battery-based WSN. However, if a fixed sink is used, the energy imbalance problem, which is energy consumption rate of nodes located near the sink is relatively increased, cannot be solved. Thus, recent research approaches the energy imbalance problem by using a mobile sink in SP-WSN. Meanwhile, with the development of wireless power transmission technology, a mobile sink may play a role of energy charging through wireless power transmission as well as data gathering in a WSN. Simulation results demonstrate that increase the amount of collected data by the sink using the proposed scheme.

  • In order to increase the performance of conventional hot water floor heating system, the bubble jet loop heat pipe for the system was developed. This experiment was conducted under next conditions : Working fluid was R-134a, charging ratio was 50%. A temperature of hot water, room temperature and flow rate were $60^{\circ}C$, $15^{\circ}C$ and 0.5~1.5 kg/min, respectively. The experimental results, show that bubble jet loop heat pipe had a high effective thermal conductivity of $4714kW/m^{\circ}C$ and a sufficient heat flux of $73W/m^2$ to heat the floor to $35^{\circ}C$ in case of the 1.5 kg/min of flow rate. So the bubble jet loop heat pipe has a possibility for appling of the floor heating system. Additionally, the visualization of bubble jet loop heat pipe was performed to understand the operating principle. Bubbles made by the narrow gap between inner tube and outer tube of evaporating part generate pulsation at liquid surface of working fluid. The pulsation had slug flow and wavy flow. So working fluid circulates in the bubble jet loop heat pipe as two phase flow pattern. And large amount of heat is transferred by the latent heat from evaporating part to condensing part.

  • The repeated blasting vibration, which is induced commonly in NATM excavation site, can cause a severe damage to the nearby facilities. It is known that the most effective method for reducing blasting vibration includes the use of electronic detonator, deck charge and change of cut method, and so forth. In order to analyze the effect of blasting vibration reduction, in this study, three-dimensional FDM (Finite Difference Method) program FLAC3D has been used for reflecting the blasting hole, delayed time and charging amount. Also the numerical analysis has been performed by applying a dynamic load to each blasting hole. The cut method has been applied with several methods, such as V-cut and Double-drilled parallel cut, which are common in tunnel construction sites. Also, the field test blasting has been carried out in order to compare the measured data with results of numerical analysis. It was shown that the numerical analysis and the field measurement coincide well.

  • Flammable substances are often present in the raw materials of pharmaceutical products manufactured by pharmaceutical companies. In this case, an excessive amount of flammable substances is added to make an intermediate, and flammable substances that do not participate in the reaction are removed through filtration and drying steps. In addition, the flammable liquid separated in the filtration process is accumulated in the form of splash filling in the filtrate container. In this case, vapor and mist of flammable liquid are generated, which lowers the lower limit of explosion and minimum ignition energy, and increases the risk of fire and explosion due to complex charging. In this study, by analyzing fire accidents that occurred during the recent filtration process of pharmaceutical companies, it is proposed to prevent static electricity accumulation by measures of nitrogen supply facilities, capacity improvement, conductive filter fabric and so on.

  • The foundation of high-rise concrete building in coastal areas generally must be installed in an integrated manner, not separately, in order to prevent defects caused by stress on the upper and lower parts of the mounting surface and to manage the process smoothly. However, when performing integrated punching, there is a concern that temperature stress cracks may occur due to hydration heat. Due to the large member size, it is difficult to make a sufficient commitment, so it is necessary to mix concrete with high self-charging properties to ensure workability. In this research, the amount of high-performance spray and admixture used was adjusted as experimental variables to satisfy this required performance. Through the analysis of the results for each blending variable, it was found that the unit quantity was 155kg/m3 and the cement ratio in the binder was 18%, and the target values of the pre-concrete properties and compressive strength were satisfied. A four-component binder(18% cement, 50% slag fine powder, 27% fly ash, 5% silica fume) was used.

  • While the construction of dismantling the old industrial complex and restoring the dismantled industrial site to its original natural environment the is underway. In this paper, we introduce a case of dismantling a turbine building which one of the a large steel frame structures in an old industrial complex by applying the progressive collapse method among the blasting demolition methods. We used a charge container that generates a metal jet to cut dismantling the turbine building. The thickness of the steel structure was adjusted to 30 mm or less by applying gouging, which was a method of digging deep grooves by gas and oxygen flames or arc thermal, in the part where the cutting thickness was thick in the blasting section. The total amount of charge used for the blasting of turbine building was 175 kg, 165 electronic detonators and 124 charge containers. As a result of the blasting demolition, the turbine building was collapsed precisely according to the estimated direction. The blasting demolition was completed without causing any damage to the surrounding facilities.

  • One disadvantage of deep cycle flooded lead-acid batteries is increasing water loss caused by use of (+) Pb-Sb / (-) Pb-Sb alloy grid. Water loss is generated by the emission of hydrogen gas from the (-) electrode during battery charging. In this paper, we maintain cycle life aspect through the development of hybrid flooded lead-acid batteries to which a (+) Pb-Sb / (-) Pb-Ca grid is applied and deal with the improvement of water loss. The amount of water loss compared to that of the (-) Pb-Sb grid decreased when Ca was added to the (-) Pb grid. For the (-) Pb-Ca grid, it was confirmed that the time to reach 0.0 V, at which water decomposition occurs, was increased compared to that of the (-) Pb-Sb grid at the NPV (Negative Potential Voltage). In the cycle life test conducted with the BCI (Battery Council International) standard, compared to the (+) Pb-Ca grid, the (+) Pb-Sb grid increased the life cycle of the batteries and the (+) Pb-Ca grid showed an early end of life due to PbO corrosion layer generation, as determined through SEM / EDS and Tear Down analysis. In conclusion, by addition of Sb to (+) Pb grid and Ca to (-) Pb grid, we developed a hybrid flooded lead-acid battery that meets user requirements to improve water loss characteristics and preserve cycle life characteristics.
