  • This study proposed a new and efficient 2D damage-plasticity model within the framework of Isogeometric analysis (IGA) for the geometrically nonlinear damage analysis of concrete. Since concrete exhibits complicated material properties, two internal variables are introduced to measure the hardening/softening behavior of concrete in tension and compression, and an implicit gradient-enhanced formulation is adopted to restore the well-posedness of the boundary value problem. The numerical results calculated by the model is compared with the experimental data of three benchmark problems of plain concrete (three-point and four-point bending single-notched beams and four-point bending double-notched beam) to illustrate the geometrical flexibility, accuracy, and robustness of the proposed approach. In addition, the influence of the characteristic length on the numerical results of each problem is investigated.

  • This paper proposes a detection method of position of OFF-switch. Each switch has the parallel path with a serial combination of passive element, its parallel path has each different frequency characteristics. Frequency characteristic of ON-switch reveals a flat spectrum irrelevant to frequency characteristic of passive element connected in parallel to its each terminal and frequency characteristic of OFF-switch reveals the same characteristic as one of passive element connected in parallel. Detection of position of OFF-switch is done by measuring the similarity of each spectrum corresponding to frequency characteristic of passive element connected in parallel to OFF-switch. The measure of their similarity is to calculate Euclidean distance between their test spectrum and reference spectrum. The spectrum with the smallest distance among reference spectrum is recognized as the spectrum of OFF-switch. The real time digital signal processing system is implemented to detect the position of OFF-switch by using spectrum matching.

  • Three-dimensional numerical study is performed for the flow analysis around the rolling stock with square cross section (Mugungwha train model). The height (H) of rolling stock is considered as the characteristic length and the total length of rolling stock is 40 which correspond to 1/2 unit of rolling stock. The gap between the surface and rolling stock is 0.17H which is average value. The relative velocity between the surface and rolling stock is assumed to be zero and Re=10,000 based on the characteristic length. Low Re ${\kappa}-{\epsilon}$[15] is employed for the calculation of turbulence which resolve all the way to the solid surface (laminar sub-layer). Large flow separation occurred at the front head of train and a pair of vortex is generated on both top and side of rolling stock. The behavior of vortices on the top of the rolling stock is believed to affect the performance of the pantograph which should be intensively investigated. The difference between the high pressure in the front stagnation region of train and the low pressure in the rear separated region causes a large pressure drag. A large pair or vortex are generated in the rear of train and the size of vortex is increased more than the size of cross section of train.

  • The length and position of the inlet port on the double tube heat exchanger is analyzed by CFX ver.11 for studying the characteristic of its flow distribution. When the boundary conditions of the inlet temperature and mass flow rate were each $20^{\circ}C$ and 10 ~ 50 kg/min, 3 models that are based on the distance between the inlet port and the center of the heat exchanger(0, 5.025, 10.05 mm) were analyzed to find the uniformity of the flow rate. Based on the flow rate, 4 lengths (23.723, 33.890, 44.057, 57.274 mm) were used to study the flow distribution according to Reynolds Number. The results show that, when the distance from the inlet to the position of the center of the heat exchanger is 10.05 mm and the length is 57.274 mm, the flow distribution is the most unified.

  • The spray and atomization characteristics of swirl coaxial injectors which use gas methane and LOx as propellants are investigated experimentally with a recess length variation. Mass distribution and spray angle are measured by a patternator and droplet size to find atomization characteristics are measured by GSV(Global Size and Velocity) system. As a result, when the liquid sprayed, the spray angle decreased and the atomization characteristic was improved with the recess length increase. When the gas and liquid injected simultaneously, the spray angle was decreased and the atomization characteristic was improved comparing to only the liquid injection.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the real flame shape and characteristic of annular combustor. To identify the effects of combustor length ratio and equivalence ratio on the flame shape in annular combustion configuration, the employed parameters are combustor length ratio 0.6-1.0, equivalence ratio 0.7-1.1. The flame shape is visualized using DSLR camera and precision optic mirror. The flame intensity is analyzed by $OH^{*}$ chemiluminescence images with ICCD camera. CO and NOx emission performance is also examined using an exhaust gas analyzer. From the visualized images, it is confirmed that the different tendency appeared in combustor length ratio 0.6-0.7 and 0.8-1.0. The results of $OH^{*}$ chemiluminescence show that the flame intensity is the most uniform for equivalence ratio 0.9. The smaller equivalence ratio is, the less emission of CO and NOx will be in this investigation range.

  • In this paper, the fluctuating lift and drag forces on 5:1 rectangular cylinders with two different geometric scales in three turbulent flow-fields are investigated. The study is particularly focused on understanding the influence of the ratio of turbulence integral length scale to structure characteristic dimension (the length scale ratio). The results show that both fluctuating lift and drag forces are influenced by the length scale ratio. For the model with the larger length scale ratio, the corresponding fluctuating force coefficient is larger, while the spanwise correlation is weaker. However, the degree of influence of the length scale ratio on the two fluctuating forces are different. Compared to the fluctuating drag, the fluctuating lift is more sensitive to the variation of the length scale ratio. It is also found through spectral analysis that for the fluctuating lift, the change of length scale ratio mainly leads to the variation in the low frequency part of the loading, while the fluctuating drag generally follows the quasi-steady theory in the low frequency, and the slope of the drag spectrum at high frequencies changes with the length scale ratio. Then based on the experimental data, two empirical formulas considering the influence of length scale ratio are proposed for determining the lift and drag aerodynamic admittances of a 5:1 rectangular cylinder. Furthermore, a simple relationship is established to correlate the turbulence parameter with the fluctuating force coefficient, which could be used to predict the fluctuating force on a 5:1 rectangular cylinder under different parameter conditions.

  • In this paper, we took the basic experiment in order to explore the optical CT(optical current transformer) for measuring high current in a superhigh voltage condition. It is based on the faraday effect that changes the polarization characteristic of optical signals by the magnetic field. We used 1310[nm] laser diode for a light source and comprised a sensing part with the optional fiber of 5[m], 10[m], 20[m] length each. The range of current was from 400[A] to 1300[A]. We observed the characteristic of output that changes according to the length of the optical fiber composing the sensing part. The optical fiber of 5[m] length used for the sensing part had -11.1% of the maximum ratio of error and 10[m] and 20[m] length had -3.5% and 1.7% each. This means that the power and linearity of output increase in proportion to the length of optical fiber and applied current in the same experimental condition.

  • In this paper, we present the fabrication and the characteristic analysis of sequential lateral solidification(SLS) poly-Si thin film transistors(TFT's) with molybdenum gate for active matrix liquid displays (AMLCD's) pixel controlling devices. The molybdenum gate is applied for the purpose of low temperature processing. The maximum processing temperature is 55$0^{\circ}C$ at the dopant thermal annealing step. The SLS processed poly-Si film which is reduced grain and grain boundary effect, is applied for the purpose of electrical characteristics improvements of poly-Si TFT's. The fabricated low temperature SLS poly-Si TFT's had a varying the channel length and width from 10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to 2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. And to analyze these devices, extract electrical characteristic parameters (field effect mobility, threshold voltage, subthreshold slope, on off current etc) from current-voltage transfer characteristics curve. The extract electrical characteristic of fabricated low temperature SLS poly-Si TFT's showed the mobility of 100~400cm$^2$/Vs, the off current of about 100pA, and the on/off current ratio of about $10^7$. Also, we observed that the change of grain boundary according to varying channel length is dominant for the change of electrical characteristics more than the change of grain boundary according to varying channel width. Hereby, we comprehend well the characteristics of SLS processed poly-Si TFT's witch is recrystallized to channel length direction.

  • The stability and structure of bluff-body stabilized hydrogen flames were investigated numerically and experimentally. The velocity of coflowing air was varied from subsonic velocity to a supersonic velocity of Mach 1.8. OH PLIF images and Schlieren images were used for analysis. Flame regimes were used to classify the characteristic flame modes according to the variation of the fuel-air velocity ratio, into jet-like flame, central-jet-dominated flame, and recirculation zone flame. Stability curves were drawn to find the blowout regimes and to show the improvement in flame stability with increasing lip thickness of the fuel tube, which acts as a bluff-body. These curves collapse to a single line when the blowout curves are normalized by the size of the bluff-body. The variation of flame length with the increase in air flow rate was also investigated. In the subsonic coflow condition, the flame length decreased significantly, but in the supersonic coflow condition, the flame length increased slowly and finally reached a near-constant value. This phenomenon is attributed to the air-entrainment of subsonic flow and the compressibility effect of supersonic flow. The closed-tip recirculation zone flames in supersonic coflow had a reacting core in the partially premixed zone, where the fuel jet lost its momentum due to the high-pressure zone and followed the recirculation zone; this behavior resulted in the long characteristic time for the fuel-air mixing.
