An Analysis on the Formative Requirements for Hybrid Characters and Influencing Relationship with Consumer Preference (하이브리드 캐릭터의 조형 요건과 소비자 선호도와의 영향관계 분석)

  • Hybrid is explained based on the logic of combination such as cross, melding, permeation, fusion, convergence etc. Such combination shows that it is more creative and effective in case of heterogeneity as compared to homogeneity and the same kind, and hybrid character has its meaning as a mean to produce a new creative image. In the context, this study aims to analyze influencing relationship through a practical analysis on how formative requirements for hybrid characters affects consumer preference. For the foregoing, this study conducted multiple regression analysis having familiarity, originality, meaningfulness, diversity as independent variables for formative requirements for characters, and consumer preference as a dependent variable. Analysis results show that familiarity, originality, diversity have a positive effect on consumers, whereas, meaningfulness has no significant impact on the consumer preference.

  • Characters' nonvocal communication plays an essential role in delivering lines and expressing emotions. A character in a game is represented with its nonvocal behavior combined with a large number of lines. In this paper, characters' nonvocal communication behaviors are categorized and analyzed. Furthermore, characters' gestures and movements are designed with bones for character gesture generation in 2D games. Besides, characters' movements are visualized. In brief, a nonvocal communication system for emotional expression of characters in 2D games is proposed.

A Comparative Study on Female Character Design in Disney Animation

  • This paper examines how the design of female characters in Disney animations is evolving over time, and explores whether these changes are related to the social status of women in modern society. We analyze in detail how Disney's female character design has undergone changes in form, characteristics, and personality with the transition from 2D animation to 3D animation, and show that the change in perception of women in modern society is behind this change. It shows. It deals with changes in the design and personality of female characters, focusing on major Disney animation works before and after 2010. Starting with the movie <Rapunzel>, released in 2010, female characters showed stronger and more active characteristics and changed from traditional Disney princesses. Disney is bringing about this social change by breaking away from the image of an independent woman and showing the growth process of overcoming hardships based on one's abilities and the support of one's family, as well as the increasing number of female characters of various races and appearances. The conclusion was reached that it shows a conscious and active willingness to accept it.

  • Having pet is one of the activities people living in modern society do to relieve stress and find peace of mind. Currently, the object of companion animals has moved beyond being a real 'living entity' and has developed to a stage where the animal's upbringing process can be enjoyed in a virtual space by being programmed in digital content. This paper studies detailed elements such as character design, interaction, and realism of 'Tamagotchi (1996)', which can be said to be the beginning of digital training content, and 'Peridot (2023)', a recently introduced augmented reality-based training content. The point was that it was training content using portable electronic devices. However, while the environment in the electronic device in which Tamagotchi's character exists was a simple black and white screen, the environment in which Peridot's character operates has been changed to the real world projected on the screen based on augmented reality. Mutual communication with characters in Tamagotchi remained a response to pressing buttons, but in Peridot, it has advanced to the point where you can pet the characters by touching the smartphone screen. In addition, through object and step recognition, it was confirmed that the sense of reality had become more realistic, with toys thrown by users on the screen bouncing off real objects. We hope that this research material will serve as a useful reference for the development of digital training content to be developed in the near future.

  • In modern days, the iconic symbolicity of animal characters functions as a sign by the social promise after being made with voluntary intentions. Representing a public organization or corporation, an animal character is put to active use as a symbol. Today illusionary animal characters serve as important icons, and product developers incessantly put out animal contents. This study set out to examine the applications of animal characters in modern times according to media development by integrating animal characters into animation, which was the beginning of animal characters, based on the theoretical background of "symbolicity" in the aesthetics history. It also analyzed the symbolicity of "Haechi," which is Seoul's animal character and one of the good examples of utilization of a promotional animal character by a corporation or public organization.

  • According to Gestalt theories of perception, this paper studies Japanese-style character design combined with ghost culture. This article sorts out the character design elements of the Japanese mobile game "Onmyoji" in China, and then analyzes the design from the perspective of psychology through Gestalt theories. The form is felt through the systematization of the whole rather than the parts, confirming whether the small design elements of the character can be perceived as the whole story.

  • Giant character used various SF movies and games in media convergence ages, and is essential for giant character in success contents. It This study defined giant character of SF movies and games, it analysed the eight of external characteristics and internal characteristics of giant character in SF movies and games. The external characteristics defined shape, silhouette, size and color, the internal characteristics defined fear, satanism, image and story focus, playfulness. Above, it was structured positioning model of giant character based eight characteristics and analyzation of example of SF movies and games. The elements of positioning model of giant characters are darkness, huge, abnormal, human, animal, fear, satanism, story focused, image focused and playfulness, and this study was proposed these model of elements of eight in SF movies and games.

  • There are various approaches that retrieve information from video. However, previous approaches have considered just object information and relationship between objects without story information to retrieve contents. To retrieve exact information at video, we need analyzing approach based on characters and community since these are body of story proceeding. Therefore, this paper describes video information retrieval methodology based on character information. Characters progress story to form relationship through conversations. We can analyze the relationship between characters in a story with the methods that classifies role grades and clusters communities of characters. In this paper, for these, we propose the Character-net and describe how to classify role grades and cluster communities at Character-net. And we show this method to be efficient.

  • The industry of digital culture contents has resulted in the high growth of added value at the area of game and movie in 2004 but the markets of animation character, and music disc have been weaken. Animation industries in Digital culture contents have attracted the attention of the people as the business of multi culture contents which has the possibility to expend and to enhance the added value nut only for the field of image and character business but also for the area of the copy right on. The stable structure of market, however, has not been settked down except a few of successful projects due to the rapid decline of 2D animation and the strong market of 3D in overseas. The purpose of this study is to analyze and research the basic logic of the market structure at the domestic business of 3D animation. In addition this paper is to suggest an alternative in terms of benchmarkin in overseas. It could be expected to achieve the effective production in this field, if the result of this study could be applied to the related world as a development model at the area of 3D animation in digital culture contents.
