  • In the sensor network security area, previous works were mainly concentrated on achieving authentication, confidentiality, integrity and availability. But the ID exposure issue is recently an increasing concern in research community. To protect the ID exposure from various attacks, the most common approach is to make use of a dynamic pseudonym rather than the real ID. However, if a node's secret key (or hash key) and the current pseudonym (such as a random number) are exposed, the attacker can easily generate the previous/next pseudonyms. In this paper, we propose a security infra-structure scheme for enabling strong anonymity of sensor nodes. Our scheme ensures that the probability being able to generate a pseudonym is very low even if a sensor node has been compromised with an attacker. Security analyses have proven that our scheme is suitable for sensor network environments in terms of preserving of forward anonymity as well as backward anonymity.

  • Cure characteristics of DGEBA(diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A)/dicy(dicyandiamide) system containing diuron(3-(3,4-dichloro phenyl) -1,1-dimethylurea) as an accelerator was investigated. The system has shelf life of six months because dicy is insoluble in liquid/solid resins at room temperature. It is generally known that dicy is an adequate curing agent for one component adhesive due to its highly latent property. With increasing the amount of added dicy, reaction heat of DGEBA/dicy system increased and degree of conversion was not varied. For DGEBA/dicy/diuron system, cure temperature decreased about $40^{\circ}C$ and cure reaction became fast by the addition of diuron which activates dicy. $T_g$ of the mixed resin decreased with the amount of accelerator. which was interpreated with molecular structure forming loose chain. Cure kinetics of DGEBA/dicy and DGEBA/dicy/diuron system were explained using Kamal's autocatalytic reaction model. The effect of acceleration was confirmed with that reaction model.

  • This cDNAs were cloned with the aid of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) by sequences based on cloned rat LH/CG and FSH receptor cDNAs. A cDNAs of LHR and FSHR were transfected into the 293 cells. Several clonal cell lines were obtained expressing different numbers of cell surface receptors. One cell lines for each LHR and FSHR were chosen, and a corresponding cell lines expressing the wild type LHR and FSHR were selected based on the number of cell surface receptor for the particular LHR and FSHR. The abilities of the LHR and FSHR to transduce the hCG and FSH signals were measured by quantitating cAMP accumulation in cells incubated with increasing concentrations of hCG and FSH. The cAMP accumulation effects for these receptors were increased by the increasing concentrations of hCG and FSH. Thus, most of the receptors expressed in cells transfected with LHR and FSHR could be detected by measuring hormone binding and cAMP response, and can utilize to study the structure function and signal transduction of the choriogonadotropins and glycoprotein hormones.

  • Metallothionein is an important and essential protein to control the intracellular concentration of heavy metals, which exist in all organisms from bacteria to vertebrates. Although the detailed functions and induction mechanisms of metallothionein gene have not been clearly characterized until yet, the structure of several metallothionein genes has been revealed. Especially, piscine metallothionein is regarded as an important protein because it is induced by several heavy metal pollutants and environmental stress and it could be determined the comparative amount of heavy metals and the extent of environmental stress by assaying the RNA transcript of metallothionein gene in the method of the quantitative RT-PCR(Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction). In this study I have characterized the 450 bp PCR fragment of metallothionein gene amplified by using the mixture of internal specific primers and universal 3' end primer. The nucleotide sequence analysis of 450 bp PCR fragment amplified in cDNA library of channel catfish did not show strong homology to other piscine metallothionein genes.

  • Fully or nearly fully 6- [4- (4'- (nitrophenylazo)phenoxycarbonyl)]pentanoated polysaccharide derivatives were synthesized by reacting cellulose, amylose, chitosan, chitin, alginic acid, pullulan or amylopectin with 6- [4- (4'- (nitrophenylazo)phenoxy) ] pentanoyl chloride (NA6C) and their thermotropic liquid crystalline behaviors were investigated. Like in the case of NA6C, all the polysaccharide derivatives formed monotropic nematic phases, suggesting that the mesophase structure of the polysaccharide derivatives is dertermined by the mesogenic side groups and not by the polysaccharide backbone. This is the first report of polysaccharide derivatives, except cellulose derivative, that form thermotropic nematic phases. The thermal stability and degree of order of the nematic phases observed for poly saccharide derivatives were significantly different from those reported for the polymers in which the azobenzene groups are attached to flexible or rigid backbones through flexible spacers. The results were discussed in terms of the difference in the arrangement of the main and side chains and the flexibility of the main chain.

  • AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a heterotrimeric complex comprising a catalytic ${\alpha}$ subunit and regulatory ${\beta}$ and ${\gamma}$ subunits, has been primarily studied as a major metabolic regulator in various organisms, but recent genetic studies discover its novel physiological functions. The first animal model with no functional AMPK ${\gamma}$ subunit gene was generated by using Drosophila genetics. AMPK ${\gamma}$ flies demonstrated lethality with severe defects in cuticle formation. Further histological analysis found that deletion of AMPK ${\gamma}$ causes severe defects in cell polarity in embryo epithelia. The phosphorylation of nonmuscle myosin regulatory light chain (MRLC), a critical regulator of epithelial cell polarity, was also diminished in AMPK ${\gamma}$ embryo epithelia. These defects in AMPK ${\gamma}$ mutant epithelia were successfully restored by over-expression of AMPK ${\gamma}$. Collectively, these results suggested that AMPK ${\gamma}$ is a critical cell polarity regulator in metazoan development.

  • The effects of postnatal exposure to octylphenol(OP) on the expressions of the steroidogenic enzymes and testosterone production were evaluated. Postnatal male mice (15-day-old) were injected with 2 or 20mg $kg^{-l}$ body weight (BW) of OP for 5 days and sacrificed on postnatal day 21. Testosterone concentration was measured by radioimmunoassay and the expressions of the testicular genes were determined by RT-PCR analyses. Significant reductions in the mean body and testis weight were observed in the OP treated animals. No marked alteration in the histological structure of the testis were observed, however, slight reduction in the seminiferous tubule diameter and the number of Leydig cells and several pyknotic cells could be identified in the 20 mg $kg^{-l}$ BW of the OP treated animals. Serum testosterone concentration was dramatically reduced and the mRNA expressions of the steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR), cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme (P450scc) and $17\beta$-hydroxylase/Cl7-20 lyase $(P450_{17\alpha})$ were decreased. No significant changes of the gene expressions of the steroidogenic factor-l (SF-I) and estrogen and androgen receptor after the OP treatment showed that the decreased expressions of the steroidogenic enzymes in the present study did not correlate with these genes. Altogether, the present study demonstrates that postnatal treatment of OP inhibits steroidogenesis by decreasing the transcriptional expressions of the StAR and steroidogenic enzymes. The alteration in steroidogenesis may adversely affect the normal development of the testis and sper- matogenesis.

  • Various kinds of genetically modified organisms (GMO) and processed foods have been developed during recent years. Genetically modified organisms can be classified into several groups as their development methods. Generally, GMO has three foreign DNA regions such as gene expression adjustment region(Promoter), termination region (terminator) and structure gene. Detection of these regions can be done particularly by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). PCR-based detection can virtually be performed for any GMO within short of time. The most important prerequisite for the application of PCR-based detection is to decide abstraction method of efficient nucleic acids. Specially, in the case of processed food, because nucleic acids of foodstuffs are damaged by heat treatment (sterilization), pressure and fermentation, DNA must be extracted ken the samples prior to PCR analysis. Although many DNA extraction protocols are available, they have rarely been compared in a comprehensive method. In this study low widely used commercial and non-commercial DNA extraction methods-DNeasy$^{TM}$, Wizard$^{TM}$, CTAB, phenol/chloroform system-were compared with respect to the quality and yield of nucleic acids and insertion genes.nes.

  • The object of this study was to evaluate lotic ecosystem health using multiple eco-metric approaches such as water chemistry diagnosis, physical habitat health evaluations, and biological integrity modeling at 100 streams of four major watersheds. For the study, eight chemical water quality parameters such as nutrients (N, P) and organic material were measured and 11-metric models of Qualitative Habitat Evaluation Index (QHEI) and multiple eco-metric health assessment model (MEHA) were applied to the four major watershed. Nutrient analysis of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) in all watersheds indicated a eutrophic state depending on the locations of sampling streams. Physical habitat health, based on the QHEI model, averaged 114 (range: 56 - 194), judging as a "good condition" by the criteria of Plafkin et al. (1989). In addition, primary (H1 - H4), secondary (H5 - H7), and tertiary habitat metric variables (H8 - H11) were analyzed in relation to the physical habitat degradations. The plots of tolerant species ($P_{TS}$) and sensitive species ($P_{SS}$) to water quality showed that the proportions of $P_{TS}$ had positive linear functions with nutrients, and that the $P_{SS}$ had inverse linear relations with the chemical variables. The model of eco-metric health assessment showed that mean MEHA was 20.4, indicating a fair condition. Overall, our data suggest that water chemistry, based on nutrients and organic matter, directly modified the trophic structures in relation to food chain in the aquatic ecosystems, and then these directly influenced the compositions of tolerance/sensitive species, resulting in degradations of overall ecological health.
