  • Superficial siderosis is attributed to hemosiderin deposition in the subpial layers of the nervous system. The clinical features of infratentorial superficial siderosis (ISS) are hearing loss, cerebellar ataxia, and corticospinal tract signs and the most common cause of idiopathic ISS is a dural defect. As magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has advanced, the diagnosis of infratentorial superficial siderosis can be confirmed by unique radiological findings in MRI. Here, we report on a female patient diagnosed with idiopathic ISS by means of clinical symptoms and radiological findings.

  • Apatient with multiple dissecting aneurysms of a posterior inferior cerebellar artery trunk who presented with SAH is reported. A 58-year-old woman presented with sudden occipital headache, dizziness and vomiting. The intial vertebral angiography revealed a suspicious pearl and string sign at the proximal posterior inferior cerebellar artery(PICA) segment. After 2 weeks, follow up angiography showed a progression of the proximal PICA dissection and newly developed dissecting aneurysm of the distal PICA segment. A far lateral suboccipital transcondylar appoach confirmed two dissecting aneurysms at distant sites of the PICA trunk. The dissection segments were wrapped with muslin wrap, which preserved the flow through the PICA and brain stem perforators. The angiographys at 3 weeks and 6 months after operation revealed serial disappearance of the dissecting aneurysms which is distal to proximal. The diagnosis, course and treatment of the dissecting aneurysms of the PICA are discussed with literature review.

  • Behcet's disease is a systemic disease affecting multiple organs including the central nervous system. Neuro-Behcet's disease was regarded as relatively rare, but thanks to the development of diagnostic tools, more and more cases are being reported. We are reporting a case of neuro-Behcet's disease in which the patient displayed paraparesis, dysarthria and involuntary tremor as neurologic symptoms. The patient's brain MRI showed cerebellar atrophy, and a spinal cord MRI failed to reveal any significant lesions. The patient experienced a couple of fever attacks during hospitalization, which were managed adequately by herbal medicines. Her main neurological symptoms such as paraparesis were, however, grossly unchanged at discharge.

  • Extra-axial medulloblastoma is a rare phenomenon. We report a case in a 5-year-old boy who presented with nausea, vomiting, and gait disturbance. He was treated with total removal of the tumor. This is the first case of an extra-axially located medulloblastoma occurring in the cerebellar hemisphere posteriolateral to the cerebellopontine angle in Korea. Although the extra-axial occurrence of medulloblastoma is rare, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of extra-axial lesions of the posterior fossa in children.

  • This study was designed to investigate the effects of nitric oxide on the neuronal activity of rat cerebellar Purkinje cells. Sprague-Dawley rats aged 14 to 16 days were decapitated under ether anesthesia. After treatment with pronase and thermolysin, the dissociated Purkinje cells were transferred into a chamber on an inverted microscope. Spontaneous action potentials and potassium current were recorded by standard patch-clamp techniques under current and voltage-clamp modes respectively. 15 Purkinje cells revealed excitatory responses to $20\;{\mu}M$ of sodium nitroprusside (SNP) and 4 neurons (20%) did not respond to SNP. Whole potassium currents of Purkinje cells were decreased by SNP (n=10). Whole potassium currents of Purkinje cells were also decreased by L-arginine, substrate of nitric oxide (n=10). These experimental results suggest that nitric oxide increases the neuronal activity of Purkinje cells by altering the resting membrane potential and after hyperpolarization.

  • Cerebellar Model Linear Associator Net(CMLAN), a kind of neuro-net based adaptive control function generator, was applied to the problem of direct inverse calibration of three and six d.o.f. POMA 560 robot. Since CMLAN autonomously maps and generalizes a desired system function via learning on the sampled input/output pair nodes, CMLAN allows no knowledge in system modeling and other error sources. The CMLAN based direct inverse calibration avoids the complex procedure of identifying various system parameters such as geometric(kinematic) or nongeometric(dynamic) ones and generates the corresponding desired compensated joint commands directly to each joint for given target commands in the world coordinate. The generated net outputs automatically handles the effect of unknown system parameters and dynamic error sources. On-line sequential learning on the prespecified sampled nodes requires only the measurement of the corresponding tool tip locations for three d.o.f. manipulator but location and orientation for six d.o.f. manipulator. The proposed calibration procedure can be applied to any robot.

  • Primary canine lung tumor is very uncommon and account for only about 1% of all cancers diagnosed [1]. The average age at diagnosis is about 10 years and no breed or sex predilection has been confirmed. Almost all primary cancers of the lungs are carcinomas, the most common being adenocrcinoma. This study describes primary lung tumor in a dog that is accompanied by cerebellar metastasis with related neurologic signs. (omitted)
