In this study, the piezoelectric transducers with 1-3 connectivity have maded. A piezoelectric ceramic PZT prepared by Wet-Dry Combination method is used as a filler in Eccogel polymer matrix. The pulse-echo response for 1-3 type composite transducers were carried out in water. It was observed that the transmitting and receiving sensitivity of 1-3 type composite transducers were improved in comparison with that or solid PZT transducer. The reason is for that 1-3 composites have a hish piezoelectric voltage coefficients, The period of pulse-echo response for the transducer is in a good agreement with the resonant frequency of self-maded composite transducer.
In this study, the mechanical properties of vulcanized rubber were evaluated through compounding by controlling filler content to improve the mechanical properties of NBR rubber. Aramid and glass fibers with excellent heat resistance were used as fillers, and ceramics were additionally used in anticipation of a complementary effect, and as for the ceramic materials, needle-shaped and plate-shaped ceramics were used. Each filler was used in an amount of 5.0, 10.0, 15.0, and 20.0 phr in order to investigate the basic properties according to the amount of filler. To confirm the complementary effect through ceramic application, each 10.0 phr fiber and ceramic were mixed with 1:1 ratio to evaluate mechanical properties. As a result, it was confirmed that the decreasing ratio of tensile strength after heat aging was small in the order of aramid fiber, acicular ceramic, glass fiber, and plate ceramic in the case of applying the filler alone. In addition, the mechanical characteristics of vulcanized rubber using composite filler based on fibers and ceramics were evaluated, and it was confirmed that the composite filler had a complementary effect on thermal aging.

High thermal conductivity films with electrically insulating properties have a great potential for the effective heat transfer as substrate and thermal interface materials in high density and high power electronic packages. There have been lots of studies to achieve high thermal conductivity composites using high thermal conductivity fillers such alumina, aluminum nitride, boron nitride, CNT and graphene, recently. Among them, hexagonal-boron nitride (h-BN) nano-sheet is a promising candidate for high thermal conductivity with electrically insulating filler material. This work presents an enhanced heat transfer properties of ceramic/polymer composite films using h-BN nano-sheets and PVA polymer resins. The h-BN nano-sheets were prepared by a mechanical exfoliation of h-BN flakes using organic media and subsequent ultrasonic treatment. High thermal conductivities over $2.8W/m{\cdot}K$ for transverse and $10W/m{\cdot}K$ for in-plane direction of the cast films were achieved for casted h-BN/PVA composite films. Further improvement of thermal conductivity up to $13.5W/m{\cdot}K$ at in-plane mode was achieved by applying uniaxial compression at the temperature above glass transition of PVA to enhance the alignment of the h-BN nano-sheets.
In spite of high ionic conductivity, the polymer gels have poor mechanical properties and high reactivity with lithium metal anode. To solve these problems, the dry solid systems and polymer composites have been intensively studied, due to their good mechanical, thermal, chemical, and electrochemical stability. The objectives of this experiment were to improve ionic conductivity and mechanical properties of the solid polymer electrolytes based on PEO-LiClO$_4$. To obtain higher ionic conductivity and better mechanical properties, ceramic or rubber phase was added in the PEO-LiClO$_4$(8:1) matrix. The results showed that ionic conductivity and mechanical properties were improved. The ionic conductivity of the samples was as high as 10$\^$-5/ S cm$\^$-1/. This value is similar to the best ionic conductivity ever reported in the solid drying system. To obtain better results, we used PEO with various molecular weights (600∼8000) and changed the salt contents. By using DSC, we found that the addition of salt reduced the crystallinity of PEO. The mobility of polymer dependence on salt contents was examined by FT-IR.
PZT powders were prepared by the molten salt synthesis method. The porous PZT ceramics were made from a mixture of PZT and polyvinylalcohol(PVA) by BURPS(Bumout Plastic Sphere) technique. The 3-3 type composites were fabricated by impregnating an sintered porous PZT ceramics with various polymer matrices. The relative permittivity of 3-3 type composite specimens was shown 860-1,100 smaller than that of solid PZT ceramics(2,100), and the dissipation factors of composite specimens were about 0.02 to 0.03. The piezoelectric coefficient d$_{33}$ of composite specimens(285-328*10$^{12}$ C/N) was comparable with that of single phase PZT specimens(364*10$^{-12}$ C/N). The thickness mode coupling factor k$_{t}$(O.5-0.6) of composite specimens was comparable with that of single phase PZT specimens(k$_{t}$-0.7), and the mechanical quality factor of composite specimens was smaller than 10, and thus these 3-3 type composite specimens would be believed as a good candidates for broad band transducer applications.ons.

As electronic devices become more advanced and smaller, one of the biggest problems to solve is the heat affecting the efficiency and lifetime of instruments. High thermal conductivity materials, in particular, metal or ceramic ones, have been used to reduce the heat generated from devices. However, due to their low mechanical properties and high weight, thermally conductive composites composed with polymers having a light-weight and good mechanical properties as a matrix and carbon materials having high thermal conductivity as a thermally conductive filler have been attracting great attention. To improve the thermal conductivity of the composites, a phonon scattering must be suppressed to move phonon effectively. In this review, we classified researches related to phonon migration and scattering inhibition of carbon/polymer composites, and discussed various methods to improve thermal conductivity.
Recently, the most promising methods for high purity hydrogen production are membranes separation such as polymer, metal, ceramic and composites. It is well known that Pd and Pd-alloys membranes have excellent properties for hydrogen separation. However, it has hydrogen embrittlement and high cost for practical applications. Therefore, most scientists have studied new materials instead of Pd and Pd-alloys. On the other hand, TiN powders are great in resistance to acids and chemically stable under high operating temperature. In order to get specimens for hydrogen permeation, the TiN powders synthesized were consolidated together with Co, Ni powders by hot press sintering (HPS). During the consolidation of powders at HPS, heating rate was 10 K/min and the pressure was 10 MPa. It was characterized by XRD, SEM. Also, we estimated the hydrogen permeability by Sievert's type hydrogen permeation membrane equipment.
$PbTiO_3$/P(VDF/TrFE) thin film for pyroelectric infrared sensor's sensing materials have been fabricated by spin coating technique. 65 wt% VDF and 35 wt% TrFE were for P(VDF/TrFE) powder. $PbTiO_3$ powder was used for a ceramic - polymer composites materials. Surface of composite thin film by ceramic fraction factor was observed by SEM. The $PbTiO_3$/P(VDF/TrFE) thin film capacitancy, dielectric constant and dielectric loss measured by impedence analyzer(HP4192A) and pyroelectric coefficient was measured by semiconductor parameter analyzer(HP4145B).

The optimal structure of 1-3 piezocomposites has been determined by controlling polymer properties, ceramic volume fraction, thickness of composite and aspect ratio of the composite to maximize the TVR (transmitting voltage response), RVS (receiving voltage sensitivity) and FBW (fractional bandwidth) of underwater acoustic transducers. Influence of the design variables on the transducer performance was analyzed with equivalent circuits and the finite element method. When the piezocomposite is vibrating in a pure thickness mode, inter-pillar resonant modes are likely to occur between lattice-structured piezoceramic pillars and polymer matrix, which significantly deteriorate the performance of the piezocomposite. In this work, a new method to design the structure of the 1~3 type piezocomposite was proposed to maximize the TVR, RVS and FBW while preventing the occurrence of the inter-pillar modes. Genetic algorithm was used in the optimal design.
This paper investigates the influence of material properties of the acoustic damping layer in the low noise hydrophone designed in the previous paper. For increase of the insensitivity of the hydrophone to external noises, acoustic impedance and damping coefficients are selected and the effects of the selected material property on the hydrophone response to the external noises are simulated with finite element method (FEM). The results show that the damping coefficients are not influential to the structural vibration decoupling from the sensing element. On the other hand, the optimum acoustic impedance of compliant layer is estimated which is smaller than 1 Mrayl or larger than 4 Mrayl. However polymer materials, which are in general use for acoustic window and damping layers, is not appropriate for the compliant materials of this hydrophone. Therefore development of new composite materials, i.e. ceramic-polymer composite or metal-ceramic composites etc., is required for the development of effective self noise suppressing underwater hydrophones.
