  • A mathematical model is developed in order to describe the network configuration and heating distribution to a Central District Heating System for an Urban Residential Community. The purpose of using this model is to optimize operating costs and to distribute heat to the Residential Community efficiently. In particular, because of the inherent nonlinearity and dual optimization of the problem a dyamic programming approach is taken. It is turned out that the optimal cost of the system is a strong non-linear function of the network. In particular, it is found that increasing N, the number of houses, may not necessarily imply increased costs. It is felt that past failure of producing economical systems may be due to the improper attention given to the network.

  • Purpose: In this study, we try to figure out the appropriate size of commercial districts in the original downtown area through empirical studies targeting the Jinju Central Commercial Area in Gyeongnam and Cheonan Station in Chungnam, which are trying to regenerate a specific space that has been lost through government projects. Research design, data and methodology: The current status and characteristics of the shopping district were examined through on-site surveys of the central business district of Jinju, Gyeongnam Province, and Cheonan Station, Chungnam Province, and the size of the empty stores was determined. In addition, the standard median income was used as the survey data along with the survey of the mobile population in the commercial area. Result: The analysis result shows that 883 stores should be maintained considering the overall expenditure and gross sales profit within Cheonan Station in South Chungcheong Province. Currently, considering spending and margins in the Commercial Area, Jinju Central Commercial Area is a place where 222 stores can be sold excessively, and a proper commercial supply plan is needed. Conclusions: In this study, we conducted a demand prediction study in the commercial sector of the most basic sector to regenerate the commercial sector through major regional commercial districts.

  • Background: The C1561T variant of the glutamate carboxypeptidase II (GCPII) gene is critical for natural methylfolylpolyglutamte (methylfolate) absorption, and has been associated with perturbations in folate metabolism and disease susceptibility. However, little is known on C1561T-GCPII as a risk factor for colorectal cancer. Therefore, this study examined whether C1561T-GCPII influences folate metabolism and adenomatous polyp occurrence. Materials and Methods: 164 controls and 38 adenomatous polyp cases were analysed to determine blood folate and plasma homocysteine (Hcy) level, dietary intake of natural methylfolate, synthetic pteroylglutamic acid (PteGlu), vitamin C and C1561T-GCPII genotype. Results: In controls and cases, 7.3 and 18.4 percent of subjects respectively, were found to have the CT genotype, increasing the risk for adenomatous polyp occurrence 2.86 times (95% CI:1.37-8.0, p=0.035). Total dietary folate, methylfolate and PteGlu intake and the level of erythrocyte folate and plasma Hcy did not predict the occurrence of an adenomatous polyp. However, dietary natural vitamin C intake was associated with adenomatous polyp risk within C1561T-GCPII CT genotype subjects (p=0.037). Conclusions: The findings suggest that C1561T-GCPII variation may be associated with risk for adenomatous polyp, and vitamin C may modify risk by interacting with the variant gene, its expression product and/or folate substrates.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the applicability of the CIE standard on lighting environments to Korea. In the field study, horizontal and the vertical illuminance was measured at the pedestrian road in the central business district of a city, and the questionnaires were conducted to get information regarding pedestrian's satisfaction with lighting environment. Four areas were selected for this survey. That areas have different type of pedestrian roads concerning the lighting conditions and the number of walkers. From the results of the measurements, It is known that the illuminance of pedestrian roads is different according to the lighting conditions and the number of poot passengers. Also the results of questionnaires show that the illuminance of the pedestrian roads affect to the pedestrian's satisfaction. Lastly, the CIE standard on lighting environments is applicable to the central business district of the cities in Korea.

  • Upon examining land prices in the eastern district of Gyeongseong, it was observed that there were variations in land prices between the northern and southern areas, with the central part being densely populated with modern facilities such as hospitals, schools, and research institutions. As a result, the eastern district of Gyeongseong was further divided into specific sub-areas, namely the northeastern and southeastern, for a more detailed analysis of the land market in each area. In the northeastern area, factors such as distance from the central area and proximity to planned roads were found to have an impact on land prices. On the other hand, in the southeastern area, the distance between the main road, whice were IHyun Road and Jongro, was identified as a significant influencer of land prices. Therefore, the northeastern area exhibited characteristics of a hinterland, influenced by the concentration of major facilities in the central area, while the southeastern area had a strong commercial orientation, largely shaped by the influence of Jongro as a bustling commercial district. This study is significant in that it sheds light on certain aspects of the modern land market by demonstrating that factors such as accessibility to roads and anchor facilities, as well as the segmentation of the land market, were also influential in the land market a century ago.

  • This paper aims to delineate Central Business District(CBD) and subcentres of Seoul and compare the functional differences of them by spatial scan statistics. Most existing studies to delimit Seoul CBD have two limits in the methods to make boundaries. First, most Seoul CBD-defining studies presuppose some central area contains CBD and look into just that area in a concentrating manner because it is too difficult to collect the data in a whole city boundary. Therefore the CBD areas have been localized in that study areas. But I analysed the data of the whole area of Seoul and was able to define the CBD and subcentres of Seoul. Second, I analysed the data by a spatial scan statistics technique and was able to minimize the number of subjective items in constructing some conditions for CBD. The CBD area in this study is enlarged eastward over East Gate, a national treasure in Seoul, than the areas in existing studies. In the contrary, westwardly, our CBD is set back a little. The two competing central places in Seoul, CBD and Gangnam have some different specialized subareas. CBD has more governing authorities and wholesale stores and Gangnam has many conglomerates HQs, Offices and cosmetic clinics.
