ACCURACY OF LAMOST DR1 STELLAR PARAMETERS

  • We adopt the PASTEL catalog combined with SIMBAD radial velocities as a testing standard to validate the stellar parameters (effective temperature $T_{eff}$, surface gravity log g, metallicity [Fe/H] and radial velocity $V_r$) from the first data release (DR1) of The Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) survey. After applying data reduction and temperature constraints to the sample obtained by cross-identification, we compare the stellar parameters from DR1 and PASTEL. The results show that the DR1 results are reliable under certain conditions. We derive a dispersion of 110 K, 0.19 dex, 0.11 dex and $4.91kms^{-1}$ in specified effective temperature ranges, for $T_{eff}$, log g, [Fe/H] and $V_r$ respectively. Systematic errors are negligible except for those of $V_r$. In addition, for stars with PASTEL [Fe/H] < -1:5, the metallicities in DR1 are systematically higher than those in PASTEL.

A COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN GMLAN SPEED AND GPS REPORTED VEHICLE SPEED BY VEHICLE MANEUVER (차량 운동에 따른 GMLAN 차량 속도와 실제 차량 속도 비교)

  • Some GM (General Motors) vehicles are using a GMLAN (General Motors Local Area Network) communication protocol for control and diagnostics. The airbag control module uses vehicle speed information from the GMLAN to record the vehicle speed as pre-crash information. In order to use the vehicle speed information for crash reconstruction purposes, it helps to be able to understand the accuracy of the data. The actual vehicle speed is not expected to be the same as the GMLAN indicated speed in some situations like a spin or if there is hard braking. This paper compares the actual vehicle speed and vehicle speed information during specific vehicle maneuvers. Actual vehicle speed is calculated from a GPS sensor, while GMLAN vehicle speed is calculated from transmission output sensor by the Engine control module (ECM). Vehicle maneuvers defined as Mode #1, Mode #2, Mode #3. The Mode #1 maneuver simulates wheel lock-up and skidding f by hard-braking at a specific speed. The Mode #2 maneuver simulates a 90degree turn using a J-turn maneuver at a specific speed. The Mode#3 maneuver simulates a 180 degree turn using a spin type of maneuver at a specific speed. The study then compares the GMLAN speed and GPS speed to see what speed difference exists between them. The results of this paper are applicable to GM vehicles only. This paper catalogs the performance and limitations of two vehicles as useful reference for crash reconstructions where there is a need to understand the speed indicated in the pre-crash section of the SDM data.

The Irrealistic Characteristics Represented in Modern Fashion Photographs - Based on Nelson Goodman's Ways of Worldmaking - (현대 패션사진에 나타난 비실재적 특성 - 넬슨 굿맨의 '세계제작 방식'을 근거로 -)

  • The modern fashion photograph is interpreted as diverse versions via individual perspectives and thus induces meaning as individuals compose diverse worlds. The researcher perceived the act of reading the significance of the modern fashion photograph from the aspect of the diverse worlds that the receivers comprise, and the researcher sought to highlight this with the ways of worldmaking, as in Nelson Goodman's concept of irrealism. This study sought the transitional structure of the significance of fashion photographs through the irrealism of Goodman and theoretically considered the way in which the worldmaking was organized. The study collected fashion photos shown in fashion magazines and fashion brand catalogs from 2005 to 2010 for a study of the precedent theories and a survey of photographic materials to select characteristics based on Goodman's Ways of Worldmaking. Goodman suggested the five ways of composition and decomposition, deformation, weighting, deletion and supplementation, and ordering as the ways of worldmaking. The composition and decomposition way leads to habit and perpetuation due to existing concepts or intimateness. It can also be considered that the composition and the decomposition way occur coincidentally with other ways due to the previous worlds in which users connote during the process through which the fashion photos were composed and decomposed, deformed, weighted, and ordered. Therefore, this study researched the four ways of composition and decomposition, deformation, weighting, and ordering by integrating them into fashion photos based on the five types of ways reviewed through a theoretical consideration.

A Study on the Development of a Classification System for the Records in Closed Private Universities: Focused on "Seonam University" (폐교 사립대학 기록물의 분류체계 개발에 관한 연구: 서남대학교를 중심으로)

  • Records at closed private universities are simply kept in stacks without the use of records classification systems. However, the systematic management of such records is needed as these are important records that have legal and evidential value during the litigation process. Therefore, this study intends to develop a classification system for recordkeeping at closed private universities aiming to eliminate unnecessary follow-up procedures that may occur because of the absence of a records classification system, and to develop practical tools for managing records at closed universities. To this end, Seonam University, among the 13 transfer records kept by the Korea Advancing Schools Foundation, was selected as the example for this study. The peculiarities of the closing processes and the catalogs of the transfer records were reviewed, and a business function analysis was conducted. Based on the Guidelines for Prescribing Retention Period of University Records by the National Archives and the Ministry of Education, a records classification system for the closed private universities was proposed for the Records Disposition Schedule to handle the uniqueness of closed universities.

A Study on User Satisfaction with CJK Romanization in the OCLC WorldCat System (도서관 서지정보의 한중일 로마자표기법에 대한 이용자 만족도 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how individuals assess Chinese, Japanese, and Korean (CJK) transliterated bibliographic information on current library catalogs. Two separate studies, a survey and an experiment, were conducted using the WorldCat system. Users noted that Romanization has many issues which can inhibit user‘s ability to understand the transliterated bibliographic information even when it is in the person’s own native language and even when the individual had extensive experience with transliteration systems. The experimental results also supported these findings: participants had better results and satisfaction when looking for information written in English than when searching for transliterated information written in their native language. Implications for future research suggests a need to investigate user preferences for translation vs. transliteration of bibliographic information. This study proposes consideration of using English translation as a parallel link with CJK Romanization for bibliographic information.

CORRELATION FUNCTIONS OF THE ABELL, APM, AND X-RAY CLUSTERS OF GALAXIES

  • We have measured the correlation functions of the optically selected clusters of galaxies in the Abell and the APM catalogs, and of the X-ray clusters in the X-ray-Brightest Abell-type Clusters of galaxies (XBACs) catalog and the Brightest Clusters Sample (BCS). The same analysis method and the same method of characterizing the resulting correlation functions are applied to all observational samples. We have found that the amplitude of the correlation function of the APM clusters is much higher than what has been previously claimed, in particular for richer subsamples. The correlation length of the APM clusters with the richness R $\ge$ 70 (as defined by the APM team) is found to be $r_0 = 25.4_{-3.0}^{+3.1}\;h^{-1}$ Mpc. The amplitude of correlation function is about 2.4 times higher than that of Croft et al. (1997). The correlation lengths of the Abell clusters with the richness class RC $\ge$ 0 and 1 are measured to be $r_0 = 17.4_{-1.1}^{+1.2}$ and $21.0_{-2.8}^{+2.8}\;h^{-1}$ Mpc, respectively, which is consistent with our results for the APM sample at the similar level of richness. The richness dependence of cluster correlations is found to be $r_0= 0.40d_c + 3.2$ where $d_c$ is the mean intercluster separation. This is identical in slope with the Bahcall & West (1992)'s estimate, but is inconsistent with the weak dependence of Croft et al. (1997). The X-ray bright Abell clusters in the XBACs catalog and the X-ray selected clusters in the BCS catalog show strong clustering. The correlation length of the XBACs clusters with $L_x {\ge}0.65{\times} 10^{44}\;h^{-2}erg\;s^{-1}$ is $30.3_{-6.5}^{+8.2}\;h^{-1}$ Mpc, and that of the BCS clusters with $L_x {\ge}0.70{\times} 10^{44}\;h^{-2}erg\;s^{-1}$ is $30.2_{-8.9}^{+9.8}\;h^{-1}$ Mpc. The clustering strength of the X-ray clusters is much weaker than what is expected from the optical clusters.

Metadata Design for Ecological Research Data: Focused on DCAT (생태 분야 연구데이터를 위한 메타데이터 설계 - DCAT을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to design metadata for management and sharing of Yeogu data produced in the ecological field. Specifically, metadata is designed based on DCAT, which is designed to facilitate interoperability between data catalogs published on the web. In addition, ABCD, Darwin Core, and EML were analyzed and applied to metadata design to reflect the characteristics of the ecological field. As a result of the research, a total of 51 metadata elements were derived for managing research data in the ecological field, and 6 essential elements, 23 recommended elements, and 22 optional elements were included. The results of this study can be used to design a DB when building a research data management and sharing system based on metadata elements, and to suggest a metadata exchange format when linking with other systems.

Types of decoration techniques since 2010 in catalogues specializing in Hanbok (전통한복 전문 카탈로그를 통해 본 2010년 이후 장식기법의 유형)

  • The purpose of this study is to classify the types of decoration techniques used in women's Chima and Jeogori in traditional Hanbok catalogs from 2010 to 2020, and to analyze the frequency of each type. The method of this study is as follows. This study first investigated the transition of modern Hanbok and decorative techniques by analyzing and classifying such work in previous studies. Based on this, the technique of decorating the Jeogori and Chima that appeared in the traditional Hanbok catalog of the study period was analyzed. The results of the study are as follows. In the case of Jeogori, in the first half of 2010, the decorative technique of a relatively large size was used, and the decorativeness tended to be strong. However, in the late 2010s, the number of decorative techniques used in Jeogori has decreased, and the size of the decorative technique has become smaller and more concise, leading to a tendency to understated decoration. In the case of Chima, techniques to express natural texture by processing threads or fabrics themselves were mainly used rather than techniques to add decoration to the surface, and techniques to express various surface texture tended to develop toward the late 2010s. The change in the decoration technique of Jeogori and Chima appears to be a combination of social, cultural, and economic factors such as a change in consumption culture and a reduction in the wedding market.

Assessment of Historical Earthquake Magnitudes and Epicenters Using Ground Motion Simulations (지진동 모사를 통한 역사지진 규모와 진앙 평가)

  • Historical records of earthquakes are generally used as a basis to extrapolate the instrumental earthquake catalog in time and space during the probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA). However, the historical catalogs' input parameters determined through historical descriptions rather than any quantitative measurements are accompanied by considerable uncertainty in PSHA. Therefore, quantitative assessment to verify the historical earthquake parameters is essential for refining the reliability of PSHA. This study presents an approach and its application to constrain reliable ranges of the magnitude and corresponding epicenter of historical earthquakes. First, ranges rather than specific values of ground motion intensities are estimated at multiple locations with distances between each other for selected historical earthquakes by reviewing observed co-seismic natural phenomena, structural damage levels, or felt areas described in their historical records. Based on specific objective criteria, this study selects only one earthquake (July 24, 1643), which is potentially one of the largest historical earthquakes. Then, ground motion simulations are performed for sufficiently broadly distributed epicenters, with a regular grid to prevent one from relying on strong assumptions. Calculated peak ground accelerations and velocities in areas with the historical descriptions on corresponding earthquakes are converted to intensities with an empirical ground motion-intensity conversion equation to compare them with historical descriptions. For the ground motion simulation, ground motion prediction equations and a frequency-wavenumber method are used to consider the effects of possible source mechanisms and stress drop. From these quantitative calculations, reliable ranges of epicenters and magnitudes and the trade-off between them are inferred for the earthquake that can conservatively match the upper and lower boundaries of intensity values from historical descriptions.

Exploring the Revision Direction and Scope of the Korean Cataloging Rules for Religious Works (종교 저작에 대한 한국목록규칙의 개정 방향과 범위 탐색)

  • The revision of the Korean Cataloging Rules (KCR) is in progress in order to conform IFLA LRM conceptual model and to strengthen its internal stability. Religious works, along with musical works and legal works, have been treated as special and important in cataloging rules. This trend continues in the new cataloging rules that seek a bibliographic model that interconnects related materials. However since KCR2(1966), there are no rules for access points or specific rules on religious works. Under the circumstances, this study analyzed (1) the contents of religious works in the recently revised cataloging rules, (2) the access points and their functions for religious works implemented in online catalogs and authority system, and finally (3) the direction and scope of KCR revision. As a result of the study, this study suggested that it is necessary to prepare detailed rules for preferred title and authorized access points for various religious works in KCR. In conclusion, some issues for further discussion were summarized.
