  • This study is object to thermal analysis comparison of continuous casting mold. A two-dimensional transient finite element model was developed to compute the temperature distribution for continuous casting mold. For thermal analysis using analysis result from ANSYS. In other to thermal analysis of continuous casting mold, many variables such as casting speed, cooling condition, film coefficient, convection and load condition are considered.

  • In the present paper, the data management of casting processes has been discussed. In order to construct a smart factory in the foundry industry, understanding of the whole casting processes has to be in the first place. Casting process data can be obtained at the kiosk operated by casting engineers and data acquired by sensors in the foundry facility. However, preprocessing of the casting process data must be carried out in order to analyze the casting process by the data. Techniques and some examples for data preprocessing in the foundry was introduced.

  • The purpose of this study is to evalute the effects of melting and casting procedures on the castability of some N-Cr and Ag-Pd alloys. One Ag-Pd alloy and two Ni-Cr alloys were chosen for study, and the first casting group of these alloys were used as the control, and with which the castability of the first recase group and the mixture group of the first recast and as much amount of the first casting alloy was compared. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The castability of the first recast alloys veried significantly depending upon the presence or abscence of the first casting alloy and the kind of alloys. 2. When the first recast alloy was mixed with as much amount of the first casting alloy, there was no significant difference in castabilityh between the first recast group and the first casting group. 3. When the first recast alloy was used alone, the castability veried significantly depending upon the kind of alloys, i.e., the castability of Rexillium III and Palliag M was decreased significantly when compared with that of the first casting groups, while that of C & B Alloy was not.

  • The experimental investication wax performed to study fitness of casting crowns with various investment widely used in Korea. 36 wax patterns were invested and casted according to the regular casting method. The result were as follow : 1. Casting with cristobalite investments of Shofu were seen apart, 0.04mm the tightest space in the linguo and bucco-cervical margin. And the largest deviation, 0.1mm was shown in the central groove 0.1mm was shown in the central groove area of occlusal surface(Jensen Metal) 2. Casting with cristobalite investments of kerr were seen apart, 0.04mm the tightest space in the linguo and bucco-cervical margin And the largest deviation, 0.09 was shown in the central groove area of occlusal surface(Jensen Metal) 3. Casting with Quartz investments of G-C were seen apart, 0.04mm the tightest space in the linguo-cervical margin, And the largest deviation, 0.1mm was shown in the central groove area of occlusal surface(Jensen Metal) 4. Casting with cristobalite investments of shofu were seen apart, 0.01mm the tightest space in the linguo-cervical margin, And the largest deviation, 0.03mm was shown in the central groove of occusal surface(Bo-sung A type gold alloy) 5. Casting with cristobalite investments of kerr showed the best fintness in linguo-cervical margin. And the largest deviation, 0.02mm was shown in the central groove area of occlusal surface(Bosung A type gold alloy) 6. Casting with Quartz investments of G-C were Seen apart, 0.02mm the tightest space in the linguo-cervical margin, And the largest deviation, 0.04mm was shown in the central groove area of occlusal surface(Bo-sung A type gold alloy) 7. And the largest deviation, 0.04mm was shown in the central groove area of occlusal surface(Bo-sung B type gold alloy) 10. Casting with cristobalite investments of kerr shown the best fitness and Bo-sung A type gold alloy showed the best fitness.

SLIDING MODE MOULD LEVEL CONTROL IN CONTINUOUS CASTING PROCESS

  • Mould level control system for continuous casting process involves stick-slip friction in the sliding gate , time-delay, non-linearity, and certain uncertainties such as friction force variations between molten steel and the inner wall of mould. In this paper, sliding mode control technique was used to solve these complex control problem. The controller is then designed and implemented onto the continuous casting process. Testing result shows that sliding mode controller can decrease the fluctuating magnitude of the mould level and is superior to the existing PID controller.

  • In this study, the casting process using forged insert was investigated to characterize the manufacturing process by which good mechanical properties can be obtained when compared with existing casting products. Process analysis for the casting design was performed by using FVM (Finite Volume Method) software. In filling process, three kinds of candidate gating systems are considered and analyzed respectively. The molten metal behavior in gating system is so important that it affects the solidification behavior of the cast.

가압-진공 하이브리드 주입성형에 의한 알루미나의 균질 성형 (Homogeneous Shape Forming of Alumina by Pressure-Vacuum Hybrid Slip Casting)

  • Conventional methods for preparing ceramic bodies, such as cold isostatic pressing, gypsum-mold slip casting, and filter pressing are not completely suitable for fabricating large and thick ceramic plates owing to disadvantages of these processes, such as the high cost of the equipment, the formation of density gradients, and differential shrinkage during drying. These problems can be avoided by employing a pressure-vacuum hybrid slip casting approach that considers not only by the compression of the aqueous slip in the casting room (pressure slip casting) but also the vacuum sucking of the dispersion medium (water) around the mold (vacuum slip casting). We prepared the alumina formed bodies by means of pressure-vacuum hybrid slip casting with stepwise pressure loading up to 0.5 MPa using a slip consisting of 40 vol% solid, 0.6 wt% APC, 1 wt% PEG, and 1 wt% PVA. After drying the green body at $30^{\circ}C$ and 80% RH, the green density of the alumina bodies was about 56% RD. The sintered density of an alumina plate created by means of sintering at $1650^{\circ}C$ for 4 h exceeded 99.8%.This method enabled us to fabricate a $110{\times}110{\times}20$ mm alumina plate without cracks and with a homogeneous density, thus demonstrating the possibility of extending the method to the fabrication of other ceramic products.

  • The structural stress and fatigue behavior of tensile specimen containing internal shrinkage defect were modeled. Real shrinkage defect in casting was scanned by industrial CT (computed tomography), and subsequently its shape was simplified by ellipsoidal primitives for the structural analysis (S.S.M., shape simplification method). The analysis results were compared with the results by real shrinkage shape without any simplification process. It was possible to consider real shrinkage of casting in stress analysis and the method to predict fatigue life of casting with defect was proposed.

  • A new concept of salt core, a melting temperature of which is lower than the solidus temperature of cast alloy, was introduced to produced an integrated casting part having a complicated inner shape or requiring under-cut in high pressure die casting or squeeze casting process. The main goal of this study is to develop a new integrated net-shape forming technology using fusible core of lower melting temperature than that of a casting alloy. This integrated net-shape forming technology would be very successful and cost-effective for producing the integrated products having a complicated inner shape or requiring under-cut. The technology for measuring and evaluating a various property of fusible core such as a thermal conductivity and thermal expansion coefficient, melting temperature was established. Also, the work space can be cleaned without a pollution inducing products.
