Brucellosis, a zoonosis with worldwide distribution, is a systemic infection caused by facultative intracellular bacteria of the genus Brucella, which can involve multiple organs and tissues. We report an uncommon case of spondylodiscitis with epidural abscess due to Brucella in a male stockbreeder. Diagnosis was based on clinical history, and supported by Brucella serology and magnetic resonance imaging. Clinical and radiological improvement were observed with a combined antimicrobial therapy of doxycycline, rifampicin, and gentamycin.

Retrophayngeal hematomas frequently develop in patients who had cervical vertebra fracture. The hematoma develops in the space between buccopharyngeal fascia and prevertebral fascia. But it rarely causes severe airway obstruction. We recently treated a patient who had dyspnea and dysphagia due to a retropharyngeal hematoma without any significant trauma history. First, tracheostomy was performed to maintain the airway. Then, incision and drainage was done under suspension laryngoscope. This case shows the fact that a retropharyngeal hematoma can result in severe airway obstruction even after a minor trauma.

A previous study suggested that there might be an association between use of herb medicine and peptic ulcer. The past history of patient with perforated duodenal ulcer was treated with herb medicine. We identified that the mucosa of stomach & duodenum were completed healed by herb medicine treatment on the gastro-endoscopy and the systom. Author report ths case with a brief review of literatures.

Heterotopic ossification of Achilles tendon is known to be related with history of prior Achilles tendon surgery, trauma, Achilles tendon rupture. We report a case of heterotopic ossification of partially ruptured Achilles tendon and treated by surgical removal of ossification and V-Y advancement with tendon repair.

We present a rare case of malignant lymphoma developing from the wall of chronic empyema thoracis. A 54-year old man with a 35 year history of tuberculosis empyema was admitted due to right chest pain and general weakness for 2 months. Under the impression of chronic empyema thoracis with destroyed right lung and tumor on posterior costophrenic sulcus, pleuropneumonectomy including tumor was performed as a single procedure through a right thoracotomy. The tumor arose from the thickened pleura, and it was histologically and immunologically diffuse large cell[non-cleaved] B-cell non-Hodgkin`s lymphoma [NHL]

The numbers of geogrid-reinforced walls are widely used in Korea. This papers present the results of two failure case histories of geogrid-reinforced segmental retaining walls. The geological background of the construction sites, detailed construction sequences, and the amount of rainfall were examined. The failure of these reinforced walls are caused by the improper drainage system and foundation treatment, too sharpened curvature of corner work, and too high height of wall.

In this paper, we try to explore the nature of open source software development process. The process involves peculiar characteristics which seem to defy the traditional economic reasoning for technology policy. Based upon the comparative case study of open source software development process with the two innovation processes adopted from literature on economic history, we argue that technology policy should strike the balance between provision of innovation incentives and voluntary disclosure of information.

The 50-year-old female patient was admitted to our hospital because of dysphagia and foreign body sensation on the neck after swallowing of solid foods 5 days ago. Esophagoscopic findings, performed on 2 days prior to admission, revealed no pathology. She had no history of preexisting esophageal disease. Under the diagnosis of the cervical esophageal perforation by routine studies such as simple chest, neck x-ray films and clinical findings, incision and drainage on the retropharyngeal space was done. Postoperatively we found the protruded degenerative spur on the 5th and 6th cervical vertebral bodies, and we considered that esophageal perforation in this case was predisposed by cervical spur. The postoperative course was uneventful.

Clinical experience with a case of empyema thoracis associated with sparganosis invading the thoracic wall is reported. Two living larvae of Sparganum Mansoni were successfully removed by surgery from the subcutaneous tissue of the thoracic wall in a man, 34 years old, who had a history of ingestion of a raw snake and a raw beef. He had no swelling and tenderness and mass of the thoracic wall for 11 years.

Tuberculous epididymo-orchitis, a rare form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis, results from hematogenous dissemination or retrograde extension from the lower urinary tract. Herein, we studied the case of a 22-year-old male patient who presented with refractory left scrotal pain and inflammation. The patient also complained of multifocal pain involving the right buttock, posterior thigh, and right wrist, without trauma history. The patient was diagnosed with multifocal tuberculosis by sputum AFB study and right sacroiliac joint biopsy.
