Phase Noise Analysis and Suppression Algorithm for OFDM-Based 60GHz WLANs (OFDM 기반의 60GHz WLAN을 위한 위상잡음 해석과 위상잡음 억제 알고리즘)

  • We investigate the OFDM-based wireless LAN systems operating in the 60 GHz frequency band as part of the fourth-generation (4G) systems. The 60 GHz band is of much interest since this is the band in which a massive amount of spectral space has been allocated worldwide for dense wireless local communications. This paper gives an overview of 60 GHz bandchannel characteristics and an effect on phase noise. The performance of OFDM system is severely degraded by the local oscillator phase noise, which causes both common phase error and inter-carrier interference. In this paper, we apply phase noise suppression (PNS) algorithm that is easy for implementation to OFDM based 60 GHz wireless LAM system and analyze the SER performance. In case of using the PNS algorithm, SER performance is improved about 6dB, 7.5dB, respectively in 16, 64-QAM.

A Study on the PLL oscillator for K-band (PLL을 이용한 K-band용 발진기에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a PLHRO(Phase Locked Hair-pin Resonator Oscillator) for K-band is designed with the feedback property of PLL(Phase Locked Loop) using a new tuning mechanism. The proposed PLHRO generates the output power of -0.6 dBm at 24.42 GHz, and has the phase noise of -86.6 dBc/Hz at 100 KHz and -76.5 dBc/Hz at 10KHz offset from carrier frequency, and has suppression characteristics of -23 dBc and spurious noise of -65 dBc. Buffered 24.42 GHz PLHRO generates the output power of 5.6 dBm at 24.42 GHz and has the of a phase noise of -77.34 dBc/Hz at 100 KHz and -72 dBc/Hz at 100 KHz offset from carrier frequency.

  • The CBTC(Communication based Train Control) and WPAN(Wireless Personal Area Network) systems employed on 2.4GHz ISM band wireless networks provide complementary service within the same environment. Coexistence between the networks will be impaired if the mutual packets are uncertainty associated the timing or gaussian distance. This paper analyzes the impact of the mutual interference and proposed method to minimize the effect of the WPAN system signals on CBTC system. The performance analysis is illustrated by examining the symbol error rate versus signal to noise interference ratio in terms of carrier frequency offset. The method contributes to reduce the symbol error rate drastically. However it can't be a fundamental solution for the impact on the interference problem. It may be needed for railway only frequency after checking the problems of the current railway frequency.

Time Evolution of a High-temperature GaN Epilayer Grown on a Low-temperature GaN Buffer Layer using a Low-pressure MOCVD

  • In this paper, the time evolution of undoped GaN epilayers on a low-temperature GaN buffer layer grown on c-plane sapphire at a low pressure of 300 Torr was studied via a two-step growth condition in a horizontal MOCVD reactor. As a function of the growth time at a high-temperature, the surface morphology, structural quality, and optical and electrical properties were investigated using atomic force microscopy, high-resolution x-ray diffraction, photoluminescence, and Hall effect measurement, respectively. The root-mean-square roughness showed a drastic decrease after a certain period of surface roughening probably due to the initial island growth. The surface morphology also showed the island coalescence and the subsequent suppression of three-dimensional island nucleation. The structural quality of the GaN epilayer was improved with increasing growth time considering the symmetrical (002) and asymmetrical (102) rocking curves. The variations of room-temperature photoluminescence, background carrier concentration, and Hall mobility were measured and discussed.

  • In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of the new current-current negative feedback (CCNF) voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), which suppresses 1/f induced low-frequency noise. By means of the CCNF, the high-frequency noise as well as the low-frequency noise is prevented from being converted into phase noise. The proposed CCNF VCO shows 11-dB reduction in phase noise at 10 kHz offset, compared with the conventional differential VCO. The phase noise of the proposed VCO is -87 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset frequency from 5.5-GHz carrier. The proposed VCO consumes 14.0 mA at 2.0 V supply voltage, and shows single-ended output power of -12.0 dBm.

  • 킹크효과를 억제할 수 있는 새로운 f-모양 트리플게이트 구조를 가지는 다결정실리콘 박막트랜지스터는 추가적인 공정과정 없이 제안 및 제작되었다. 이러한 다결정실리콘 박막트랜지스터의 채널에는 순차적인 횡방향 고체화(Sequential Lateral Solidification, SLS)나 CW 레이져 횡방향 결정화(CW laser Lateral Crystallization, CLC) 등과 같은 방법으로 제작된 횡방향으로 성장시킨 그레인이 있다. 이 소자의 전체적인 전류흐름은 횡방향으로 성장시킨 그레인 경계에 강력하게 영향을 받는다. f-모양 트리플게이트에는 횡방향으로 성장시킨 그레인과 평행한 방향으로 위치한 채널, 그리고 수직인 방향으로 위치한 채널이 있다. 이 소자는 f-모양 게이트 구조에서의 비대칭 이동도를 이용하여 다결정실리콘 박막트랜지스터의 킹크효과를 효과적으로 억제시킬 수 있다는 사실을 실험과 시뮬레이션을 통해 검증되었다. 우리의 실험 결과는 이 논문에서 제안된 f-모양 트리플게이트 박막트랜지스터가 기존의 박막트랜지스터와 비교할 때 더 효과적으로 킹크 효과를 감소시킬 수 있다는 것을 보여주었다. 또한 고온 캐리어 스트레스 조건에서의 신뢰성도 개선할 수 있음이 확인되었다.

Practical Application of the Active Vibration Control System to Ship Superstructure (선체 상부구조 진동의 능동제어시스템 실용화 연구)

  • A hydraulic type active control system has been developed for the purpose of vibration suppression of ship superstructrures. The active mass of the developed system weighs about three tons and is designed to have ${\pm}5mm$ stroke below 10Hz. Thus maximum control force of the system is about 60kN. Performance test of the developed system has been carried out on a 4,400TEU contrainer carrier built in Samsung Heavy Industry Co., LTD. Through the exciter tests, it has been confirmed that the vibration levels of the superstructure can be reduced to about 20% of the uncontrolled levels near resonant frequency.

  • In AlGaAs/GaAs HBT the temperature dependence of DC parameters was investigated over the temperature range between 95K and 580K. The temperature dependence of DC parameters depends on the relative contribution of each of the current components suc as emitter-injection-current, base-injection-current, bulk recombination current, interface recombination curretn, thermal generation ecurrent and avalanche current due to impact ionization within the collector space charge layer in a specific temperature. In this paper we investigated the temperature effects on DC parameters such as V$_{BE,ON}$ current gain, input and output characteristics, V$_{CE, OFF}$, R$_{E}$, R$_{C}$ and analyzed the origins, and extracted the qualitativ econditions for a stable HBTs against the temperature variation. Finally, in order to keep HBTs stable with respect to the variation of temperature, the valance-band-energy-discontinuity at emitter-base heterojunction should be large enough to enhance the effect of carrier suppression at a relatively high temperature. In addition the recombination centers, especially around collector junction, should be removed and the area of emitter and collector junction should be identical as well.

  • In the thesis, For improving the Stability of VCHRO(Voltage Controlled Hair-pin Resonator Oscillator) the new structure using the parallel feedback of the second harmonic is proposed for self-phase locking effect. This module is composed of wilkinson divider, frequency doubler, directional coupler, and bandpass filter using a hair-pin resonator, which are integrated into miniaturized hybrid circuit. The module exhibits output power of 2.5 dBm at 19.5 GHz, -29.83 dBc fundamental frequency suppression and -76.52 dBc/Hz phase noise at 10 kHz offset frequency from carrier of center frequency 19.5 GHz.

Phase Locked VCDRO for the 20 GHz Point-to-point Radio Link (20 GHz 고정국용 위상고정 VCDRO)

  • Design and performance of 18 GHz phase locked dielectric resonator oscillator(PLDRO) for Point-to-point radio link using analog phase locked loop is described which achieve high stability and low SSB phase noise. The module consists of an 18 GHz voltage controlled dielectric resonator oscillator(VCDRO), buffered amplifier, analog phase detector which are integrated to form a miniature hybrid circuit. In addition, containing a low phase noise VHF PLL has been designed to lock any other conventional N times frequency of crystal oscillator. The module achieves stable phase locked state, exhibits output power of 21 dBm at 18.00 GHz, -34 dBc harmonic suppression and -75 dBc/Hz phase noise at 10 kHz offset frequency from carrier.
