  • In light of changes in today's medical environment, whether to dismantle the 50-year-old internship training system in the Republic of Korea is under debate. Although the question remains open, discussions on such issues have drawn attention to the quality of the clinical clerkship and student career advisory programs in medical colleges. The purpose of this study is to analyze the experiential clerkship and career exploration issues. Ensuring excellence of the clerkship and career advisory sessions is an essential responsibility of educational institutions regardless of whether the intern training system is dismantled. Important objectives of the experimental clerkship include reinforcing prerequisites established by law, introducing a student practice license, developing a standardized clinical assessment and student portfolio requirement, and publishing a guidebook for clinical directors. For career exploration, it is necessary to broaden participants' experiences of specialties and to manage the variety of student career guidance programs. It is imperative for the Korean Association of Medical Colleges, in collaboration with medical colleges, to play a leading role in focusing more attention and effort on such issues.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that influence the nursing students' nurse image and professional self-concept on career exploration. This study was accomplished on 153 students in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades of the Department of Nursing Science at a college in area Y, and data were collected from July 1 to August 31, 2020 using a structured questionnaire. Measurement tools consisted of nurse image, professional self-concept, and career exploration behavior. Data processing was performed using the SPSS 22.0 program where general characteristics were analyzed by t-test, ANONA and post examination tests by Scheffe's test, using mean score, standard deviation, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. Nursing students' nurse image, professional self-concept, and career exploration behavior were all found to have significant positive correlations, and the most influential variable was professional self-concept. As for the total explanatory power of these variables, model 2 showed 25% explanatory power, which was increased by 2% compared to model 1. Based on this result, it is necessary to develop education and a career exploration action program which can improve the nurse image and professional self-concept.

  • The current study aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a group coaching program to improve college students' career exploration behaviors based on the self-affirmation theory. Participants were undergraduate students at a University in Seoul and volunteered in the program during the break. The group coaching program was conducted twice a week during three weeks, a total of six times, and each session lasted 2 to 2.5 hours. In this study, the effect of self-affirmation embedded in the group coaching program on various psychological variables and college students' career exploration behaviors were examined. A mixed-randomized analysis was conducted to compare the pre, post, and follow-up tests of the experimental, comparison, and no-treatment control groups, each consisting of 18 participants. The results showed that participants in the experimental group coaching condition showed more significant improvements in psychological resources, career self-efficacy, openness, problem-focused coping, and career exploration behaviors compared to the comparison and control groups, and these results were maintained even after the program ended. The implications of this study for coaching theory and practice, as well as limitations and future research directions, were discussed.

For the study, First, to describe the current status of the management system across the 228 centers, examine the staff's perceptions of the current evaluation method and system of each center, and analyze the needs of measuring indices of each center for its performance evaluation, a cross-sectional survey method was employed. Second, relevant literature was reviewed. Next, measurement indices were developed employing the Delphi method with a panel of 15 experts in developing instruments of accomplishment. Based upon the conclusion of this study, The measurement indices developed in this study focuses on the core measurement indices. These indices include a checkbox of necessary and unnecessary in each item so that each local department of education or each center can select indicating items (indices) according to its own needs. The newly developed measurement indices consists of four domains to assess: (1) Institutional competencies-goals, budget, system, and resources, (2) Practitional competences-qualities of programs, administration of experiential career program providers, promotion of centers and programs, management of human resources such as instructors or guides, and establishment of community-center cooperative networking system, (3) Accomplishments-finding new experiential career program providers, the number of participants such as schools and students, reciprocal system, and the degree of participants' satisfaction with the center and programs, and (4) specialized indicators-extra scores for center-based specialized programs.
