  • The main applications of CFRP are sports, aerospace and general industrial uses including automobiles. As this application fields expands the opportunity of machining, but CFRP is difficult to cut because of delamination of the composites and the short tool life. In this paper, the machinability of multidirectional CFRP by means of ultrasonic vibration cutting, which has been verified experimentally investigated.The experimentally to be highly effective in view of cutting force and surface quality.

탄소섬유강화플라스틱의 적층구성에 따른 드릴 가공에 관한연구 (A study on the Drilling according to the Stacking Sequence of the CFRP)

  • The CFRP composite has a lot of merits such as mechanical characteristic, light and thermal resistance. For these merits, CFRP is applied to so many industrial area. In order to use the composite materials in the aircraft structures or machine elements, accurate surfaces for bearing mounting or joints must be provided, which require precise, machining. In this study, the specimens differentiating the stacking sequence of 5kinds were used. When drilling the carbon fiber reinforced plastics, it was checked on whether the stacking sequence reached any effect on the cutting force. Also relationship between the drill diameter is examined from the drilling experiment, which is the drilling of Fabric, Unidirectional specimen with ∅6mm, ∅10mm, ∅12mm cemented carbide drill. Considering cutting force and drilling diameter, the results are analyzed.

  • This study is to investigate a damage estimation of single edge notched tensile specimens as a function of acoustic emission(AE) according to the uni-directionally oriented carbon fiber/epoxy composites, CFRP In fiber reinforced composite materials, AE signals due to several types of failure mechanisms are typically observed. These are due to fiber breakage, fiber pull-out matrix cracking, delamination, and splitting or fiber bundle breaking. And these are usually discriminated on the basis of amplitude distribution, event counts, and energy related parameters. In this case, AE signals were analyzed and classified 3 regions by AE event counts, energy and amplitude for corresponding applied load. Bath-tub curve shows 3 distinct periods during the lifetime of a single-edge-notch(SEN) specimen. The characterization of AE generated from CFRP during SEN tensile test is becoming an useful tool f3r the prediction of damage failure or/and failure mode analysis.

  • The high strength and wear-resistant metal bonded diamond wheel was applied to the drilling process of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP), The helical-feed drilling method was use for the first time to overcome the limit of drilling depth of the conventional drilling process and to improve the dressing of the wheel. The helical-feed drilling method was found effective at high cutting speed without the limit of drilling depth.

  • Recently, the use of advanced materials with light weight significantly increases because of global regulation on CO2 emission. Especially, CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastics) one of the most promising advanced materials. Since CFRP has pretty higher strength per unit weight than steel, it is one of most popular materials in aviation industry and its application to automobile rises sharply. Especially, one of the frequent machining processes for CFRP is drilling to make a hole, however, CFRP drilling has troublesome limitations in hole quality and productivity induced due to delamination, splintering and severe tool wear. Particularly, cutting loads increase caused by tool wear makes delamination and splintering even severer. Therefore, tool wear monitoring or reduction in CFRP drilling must be considered seriously. In this study, we measured thrust force, flank wear, and tool surface temperature in drilling using various tools with different sizes and materials. Consequently, it was presented the effects of tool properties on drilled hole quality, thrust force and tool surface temperature.

  • 일반적으로 cross-link된 열경화성 에폭시수지는 유기용매에 용해되지 않고 열에 용융되지 않는 특성이 있다. 따라서 에폭시수지가 사용된 물질, 특히 탄소섬유강화플라스틱(carbon fiber reinforced plastic, CFRP)은 재활용이 어렵고, 사용 후 폐기물 처리에 막대한 비용이 소비되고 있다. 본 원고는 열경화성 에폭시수지 응용물 중 CFRP의 재활용을 중심으로 한 친환경적 재활용 기술에 관하여 정리하였다. 특히, CFRP의 구성요소인 탄소섬유(CF)와 기지재인 에폭시수지를 모두 재활용 할 수 있는 화학적 방법에 관하여 보고한다. 더 나아가 열경화성 에폭시수지의 화학적 분해물의 재이용기술에 관한 예를 소개한다.

  • Carbon Fiber reinforced composite material can be designed for the optimized performances of structural member that have achieve appropriate mechanical properties with cross-sectional shape, fiber direction, stacking sequence and thickness. So there are needed extensive databases each optimal design of CFRP structural member by impact through the preparation of different shape, interface number, thickness and stacking angle. When pressure is applied to structural member, compression, bending and torsion is shown on the corresponding member. For the effective utilization of fiber reinforced composite material as main structural member, optimized design technology should be established to maximize mechanical properties for compression, bending and torsion. In this paper, CFRP prepreg sheet with different stacking angle is manufactured in CFRP and hybrid(Al+CFRP) with circular cross-section. Strength and stiffness is gotten respectively by flexure test. CFRP structure and hybrid structure can be compared with each other. The best design guideline can be analyzed by use of this study result.

엑스선 촬영 시 보조도구 재료로써 탄소 섬유 강화 플라스틱의 유용성 (Usefulness of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics as a Material of Auxiliary Tool for X-ray Imaging)

  • When taking X-rays, various auxiliary tools were used to fix a patient's exact shooting position and posture. In this study, we evaluated the usefulness of carbon fiber reinforced plastics(CFRP) 3K as a material of auxiliary tools by comparing poly methyl metha acrylate(PMMA), polycarbonate(PC), and CFRP 3K each of which has high radiolucency. X-ray radiolucencies were measured by stacking 1 mm panels of each material, and contrast to noise ratio(CNR) and signal to noise ratio(SNR) of images of each material were measured by comparing with None, which stands for images that are taken without any material. All three materials showed over 90% X-ray radiolucencies within 2 ㎜ thickness, and there was no significant difference. PC, PMMA and CFRP 3K had high CNR and SNR in order, and CFRP 3K showed the closest CNR and SNR to those of None. While taking X-rays, by using CFRP 3K material within 2 ㎜ thickness as a material of auxiliary tools, which are used to reduce re-shooting and X-ray exposure by fixing a patient's exact shooting position and posture and improve the quality of medical images, a high X-ray radiolucency of over 90% would be obtained, and the influence on the image could be minimized.

직교 절삭 기반 탄소섬유복합재 가공특성 관련 연구 (Evaluation of Machining Characteristics of the Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) Composite by the Orthogonal Cutting)

  • Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) composites have been widely used due to their great strength, stiffness and light weight. However, due to its anisotropy and inhomogeneous properties the machining process of CFRP composites is typically more complex than that of regular metals. Since there are many defects, such as delamination and tool wear during the machining process of CFRP composites, the optimization of this process is essential in improving the productivity. In this study, orthogonal machining of CFRP composites was performed to identify the machining characteristics of these materials. In addition, an experimental observation of delamination was investigated through the use of scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In these experiments, the cutting forces were measured and analyzed to determine the difference between machining of CFRP composites and metals. The comparison between the numerical models and experimental results was performed in terms of the maximum cutting forces.

Rib CFRP 파이프의 강도에 관한 기초적 연구 (The Fundamental Study of Strength on the CFRP Pipe Reinforced Rib)

  • The carbon fiber reinforced plastics, one of unidirectional fiber-reinforced composite materials, are widely used in various field including space and aviation industries, sports and leisure industries and general structural members and parts as have high strength in comparison with the weight, elasticity coefficient, high fatigue strength and lower thermal transformation. This paper present analytical behavior of CFRP pipe reinforced rib under the external force. From the results, the maximum compressive stress occurs at the upper flange of CFRP pipe and tensile stress occurs middle flange of the CFRP pipe. The stress of rib CFRP pipe by increasing effective cross-sectional area was reduced by approximately 35%.
