Car manufacturers and part manufacturers each have their own criteria with regard to strength, stiffness and NVH performance levels. Part manufacturers typically investigate such performances according to the part unit. To do this, the part manufacturer receives information from the relevant car maker. However, the information provided by the car maker is limited, making it difficult to develop a part which meets all of the design requirements specified by the car unit overall. To overcome this difficulty, the utilization of a VPG system is recommended for the designer. In this study, the durability performance of an optimized control arm as suggested in a previous study was investigated using the ETA-VPG, LS-dyna and FE/safe software packages. ETA-VPG provides several types of suspension and steering parts. In this study, a complete car is created using the library included in ETA-VPG, with the exception of the control arm. We also conducted a virtual proving ground analysis to predict the life cycle of the control arm.

As a car is a combination of a lot of components, it is necessary to consider safety and durability. Even there are lots of components for a car, the connector is one of the most important one since it connects functional electric signal. Usually automotive connector is tested under each car maker's test specification, which should have dependability characteristic. In this paper, we aim to review the current test specifications in view of dependability, and propose an accelerated life test for the automotive connector.
Level 0: The Marekting Buzzword : □Confusion between DMU and Visualization □Having a Mobile Data Viewer/Analyser is Anyway a Prerequisite Level 1: Digital Pre-Assembly (DPA): □Building Digital Prototype before Physical Build □Usually a job for Packaging or Prototype Teams □Usually no time Left to take Feed-back into account before Actual Build Level 2: Design in Context: □All Designers within Car Maker do Local DMU before DPA Level 3: Design in Extended Context □Design in Context Expanded to Suppliers(omitted)
The shimmy phenomenon, or the radial vibration of steering wheel, happens frequently at a high speed, complicated with suspension system, steering system, vehicle body, engine, transmission and tire. In this study, the suspension system and steering system are modeled by the reference of vehicle body design coordinates(T.L.H), the coordinate system usually used by passenger car maker. In addition, the theoretical results from numerical method have been investigated and compared with the experimental ones by the correlating analysis between the tire and sub-system. The steering and suspension system modeled for the numerical analysis are both independent type. This study developed an analysis program which could forecast the shimmy level in advance by the variation of properties in each system and the change in design of new model.

Recently high strength steel sheets with high formability for automotive parts have been being developed to meet the demands for passenger safety and weight reduction of car body. Among these high strength steels, dual-phase steels are regarded as one of the attractive steels due to their excellent mechanical properties including high strength and ductility. However, to be successfully applied to automotive parts they should be corrosion resistant enough to satisfy the required quality of car maker. This also requires their feasibility for galvannealed production including hot dip galvanizability. In this study has been placed on understanding the effects of heat-treatment(austenizing and isothermal treatment) on the microstructures and mechanical properties of a 0.06C-0.03Si-2.0Mn high strength steel for cold forming. The microstructure and phase distribution were examined with eth aids of SEM, EBSD, TEM etc.. Through the study the production of 590MPa grade DP GA steels with good formability and galvaniability were shown to be possible.
Electric cars are expected to increase quality of life by reducing air pollution and to contribute to economic growth by creating new businesses. However, electric car adoption has lagged and has not satisfied public expectation. One of the primary reasons for this outcome is the slow charging speed or inconvenience of charging a battery. Under the insufficient diffusion of electric cars, pushing business entities to construct charging facilities is undesirable for a policy maker to increase the adoption rate because of cost and management issues. This study adopts the design science methodology to interpret the problem of deploying electric car charging stations in the view of information systems. A trip planning algorithm is suggested on the basis of the theory of range anxiety. We investigate issues related to the current charging locations using data from drivers' car navigation devices. We also review its applicability to trip planning to obtain insights.

The vibrations of steering wheel are required to be reduced for convenient ride quality and good controllability. This phenomenon, vibration of steering wheel, is occured by interaction with suspension system, steering system, vehicle body, engine/transmission and tire complicately. But reviewing the current research activities, most researches are performed for the vibration analysis of steering wheel with a simple model, and mot easy to be applied to the variation of each component element connected with steering system as well as that of the steering system. In this study, suspension system and steering system are modelled by the T.L.H. coordinate system which is usually used by a passenger car maker. Also, rigid body motions of engine and elastic motions of vehicle body in the previous study are considered. Derive the equation of motion in 29 d.o.f. and the vibration of steering wheel is analyzed numerically and verify the midelling of steering system by comparison with test results for real car. And then, the optimal design values of the engine mount system obtained from the previous study are applied to the verified steering system model and investigate the effects of various engine mount design values on the vibration of steering wheel.
Generally, A Dynamic Absorber by using Active viscous Damping is highlighted for effective suspension system, such as improved ride comfort and handling in the market. Lately, this system based on the Sky-Hook damper theory is introduced by the name of "Active Dynamic Absorber" to us. This system has an excellent performance in contrast to Passive. Adaptive Dynamic Absorber, besides having low cost components of system, low energy consumption. light weight of system. In this viewpoint. most of car-maker will adopt this system in the near future. For this reason, we developed Dynamic Absorber by using Active viscous Damping which is equipped with continuously variable Dynamic Absorber and Control logic consisting Filter and Estimator. control apparatus of Dynamic Absorber operated by 16-bit microprocessor of high performance. variable device of viscous Damping. G-sensor so on. In this paper. several important points of development procedure for realizing this system will be described with results in which is obtained from experiment by simulation and Full car test in Proving ground. respectively.pectively.
The whiplash is the most important issue of low speed rear-impact. So auto makers are committed to developing a seat to improve whiplash injury. Most NCAP tests have been used by same pulse (Mid Velocity 16kph). Only Euro NCAP uses different pulse that consists of Low, Mid, High velocity. But Euro NCAP also uses same pulse in Mid velocity as other NCAP test. That Mid velocity NCAP pulse was made by rear impact that has 90's vehicle structure properties. That pulse was used until now days. However these days, auto maker use more high tensile steel than 90's as customer and society demand more fuel efficiency and light vehicle with good safety structure. So modern vehicles have different pulse patterns of rear impact than NCAP pulse and 90's vehicle crash properties. In this paper, the test was conducted by following condition. Target car was impacted by the rigid barrier with certain velocity. Finally target vehicle gained delta V 16kph which was same velocity as NCAP Mid Velocity pulse. It is critical velocity which occur long period neck injury. It is very different pulse that was gained by real car impact from NCAP pulse. And it has higher peak G with high fluctuation and short duration than NCAP pulse.
This paper presents a RLS based adaptive sliding mode observer (A-SMO) for unknown fault reconstruction in longitudinal autonomous driving. Securing the functional safety of autonomous vehicles from unexpected faults of sensors is essential for avoidance of fatal accidents. Because the magnitude and type of the faults cannot be known exactly, the RLS based A-SMO for unknown acceleration fault reconstruction has been designed with relationship function in this study. It is assumed that longitudinal acceleration of preceding vehicle can be obtained by using the V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle) communication. The kinematic model that represents relative relation between subject and preceding vehicles has been used for fault reconstruction. In order to reconstruct fault signal in acceleration, the magnitude of the injection term has been adjusted by adaptation rule designed based on MIT rule. The proposed A-SMO in this study was developed in Matlab/Simulink environment. Performance evaluation has been conducted using the commercial software (CarMaker) with car-following scenario and evaluation results show that maximum reconstruction error ratios exist within range of ±10%.
