  • Recently, there is an increasing need to produce more precise products with small deviations from defined target values. Machine capability is the ability of a machine tool to produce parts within a tolerance interval. Capability indices are a statistical way of describing how well a product is machined compared to defined target values and tolerances. Today, there is no standardized way to acquire a machine capability value. This paper describes a method for evaluating machine capability indices in machining centers. After the machining of specimens, the straightness, roundness, and positioning accuracy were measured by using CMM (coordinate measuring machine). These measured values and defined tolerances were used to evaluate the machine capability indices. It will be useful for the industry to have standardized ways to choose and calculate machine capability indices.

  • The process control methods based on the statistical analysis apply the analysis method or mathematical model under the assumption that the process characteristic is normally distributed. However, the distribution of data collected by the automatic measurement system in real time is often not followed by normal distribution. As the statistical analysis tools, the process capability index (PCI) has been used a lot as a measure of process capability analysis in the production site. However, PCI has been usually used without checking the normality test for the process data. Even though the normality assumption is violated, if the analysis method under the assumption of the normal distribution is performed, this will be an incorrect result and take a wrong action. When the normality assumption is violated, we can transform the non-normal data into the normal data by using an appropriate normal transformation method. There are various methods of the normal transformation. In this paper, we consider the Box-Cox transformation among them. Hence, the purpose of the study is to expand the analysis method for the multivariate process capability index using Box-Cox transformation. This study proposes the multivariate process capability index to be able to use according to both methodologies whether data is normally distributed or not. Through the computational examples, we compare and discuss the multivariate process capability index between before and after Box-Cox transformation when the process data is not normally distributed.

  • Application areas for Lifetime Performance Index(LPI), a kind of process capability index to be frequently used as a means of measuring process performance are illustrated with examples. Statistical properties for maximum likelihood and unbiased estimators of LPI are evaluated and discussed under Weibull distribution with known shape parameter. Furthermore, guidelines for selecting an estimator of LPI are also presented.

  • Process Capability indices(PCIs) have been widely used in manufacturing industries to provide a quantitative measure of process performance. PCIs have been developed to represent process capability more exactly. The traditional process capability indices Cp, Cpk, Cpm, $Cpm^+$ have been used to characterize process performance on the basis of univariate quality characteristics. Cp, Cpk consider the process variation, Cpm considers both the process variation and the process deviation from target and $Cpm^+$ considers economic loss for the process deviation from target In the previous studies, only one designated location on each part is measured. System process capability index even though in single process, multiple measurement locations on each part are required to calculate the reliable process capability. In manufacturing industry, there is growing interest in quantitative measures of process variation under multivariate quality characteristics. The multivariate process capability index incorporates both the process variation and the process deviation from target or considers expected loss caused by the process deviation from target. In this paper, we compare various process capability indices and propose the application method of PCIs.

  • Recently, a couple of process capability indices are used to evaluate that the outputs of the process satisfy the specifications. An assumption of those indices is that the specifications of the characteristics are given single constant value. The display panel is a highly precise product and all the specifications of measure points are designed by their locations in the panel. So it is very difficult to locate the measurement facility to the exact position. In this paper, we propose a new process capability index in case of multi specifications and unfixable objects.

  • We develop methods for propagating and analyzing EPCI(Extended Process Capability Index) by using the error type that classifies into accuracy and precision. EPCI developed in this study can be applied to the three combined processes that consist of production, measurement and calibration. Little calibration work discusses while a great deal has been studied about SPC(Statistical Process Contol) and MSA(Measurement System Analysis). EPCI can be decomposed into three indexes such as PPCI(Production Process Capability Index), PPPI(Production Process Performance Index), MPCI(Measurement PCD, and CPCI(Calibration PCI). These indexs based on the type of error classification can be used with various statistical techniques and principles such as SPC control charts, ANOVA(Analysis of Variance), MSA Gage R&R, Additivity-of-Variance, and RSSM(Root Sum of Square Method). As the method proposed is simple, any engineer in charge of SPC. MSA and calibration can use efficientily in industries. Numerical examples are presentsed. We recommed that the indexes can be used in conjunction with evaluation criteria.

  • Recently, increasing attention has been paid to IT outsourcing and core competency of the corporation. Many companies are expected to focus on core competency rather than reduce IT cost from IT Outsourcing. But, by this time there are no a framework for evaluating intensity of core competency and maturity of IT outsourcing capability. This paper is conducted to provide a framework for evaluating intensity of core competency and maturity of IT outsourcing capability. This paper is to verify if the company's core competency and IT outsourcing capability have a significant influence on each other.

  • This paper presents a process incapability index to provide manager with various information of process and to reduce cost. The introduced process incapability indices indicate information about mean and variance of manufacturing process and variance of inspection process to evaluate process capability using ratio of variance and difference between target and mean to specification. This model can be used by the scale of six sigma management.
