  • When the production run is short and process parameters change frequently, it is difficult to monitor the process using traditional control charts. In such a case, the coefficient of variation (CV) is very useful for monitoring the process variability. The CV control chart is an effective tool to control the mean and variability of process simultaneously. The CV control chart, however, is not sensitive at small shifts in the magnitude of CV. The CV-EWMA(exponentially weighted moving average) control chart which was developed recently is effective in detecting a small shifts of CV. Since the CV-EWMA control chart scheme can be viewed as a weighted average of all past and current CV values, it is very sensitive to small change of mean and variability of the process. In this paper, we propose an FIR(Fast initial response) CV-EWMA control chart to improve the sensitivity of a CV-EWMA scheme at process start-up or out-of-control process. Moreover, we suggest the values of design parameters and show the results of the performance study of FIR CV-EWMA control chart by the use of average run length(ARL). Also, we compared the performance of FIR CV-EWMA control chart with that of the CV-EWMA control chart and we found that the CV-EWMA control chart gives longer in-control ARL and much shorter out-of-control ARL.

  • The control chart is widely used statistical process control(SPC) tool that searches for assignable cause of variation and detects any change of process. Generally, ${\bar{X}}-R$ control chart and ${\bar{X}}-S$ are most frequently used. When the production run is short and process parameter changes frequently, it is difficult to monitor the process using traditional control charts. In such a case, the coefficient of variation (CV) is very useful for monitoring the process variability. The CV control chart is an effective tool to control the mean and variability of process simultaneously. The CV control chart, however, is not sensitive at small shift in the magnitude of CV. In this paper, we propose an CV-EWMA (exponentially weighted moving average) control chart which is effective in detecting a small shift of CV. When we compared the performance of CV-EWMA control chart with that of the CV control chart, we found that the CV-EWMA control chart gives longer in-control ARL and much shorter out-of-control ARL.

  • The study is to analyze dynamo test results for various commercial pads in order to verify the performance of brake disk with CV-NCM cast iron. The developed brake disk will apply to 200 km/h tilting trains that is being developed as one part of project for speed-up on Korean existing railroad. The test program is made out suitably for braking condition and performance of test equipment by referring UIC 541-3. Two kinds of resin pad and one kind of foreign sintered pad suitable for 200 km/h trains are used as various commercial pad for the dynamo test. The data aquisition for the maximum and smallest temperature, hot spot, etc. on disk and pad is performed by using the thermocouples and thermal imaging cameras. From this research, we obtained braking characteristics between CV-NCM cast iron disk and pad of various material and will be utilized usefully as basis data of performance optimization of developing sintered pad.

  • In this investigation, a novel design for a well-plate structure was created to optimize antigen-antibody reactions. The main objective during the development process was to enhance the internal structure of the well plate and increase the surface area. To improve efficiency, the newly designed well-plate was conical in shape and featured internal protrusions, or fins, which increased the surface area per unit volume by 1.45 times compared to standard plates. The performance of the newly developed well plate was assessed using a sandwich CLEIA system, which demonstrated a detection limit approximately 2.5 times better than that of commercial products. Additionally, the coefficient of variation (CV%) was superior to that of commercial products, with inter-assay CV(%) ≤ 11 and intra-assay CV(%) ≤ 9, compared with inter-assay CV(%) ≤ 15 and intra-assay CV(%) ≤ 10 for commercial products. Furthermore, the newly designed well plate demonstrated higher reaction efficiency, even with smaller sample volumes (25~50 µL) compared to the 50~100 µL typically required by commercial well plates. The incorporation of fine patterns increases the number of active sites available for interaction with the samples, thereby significantly enhancing the reaction sensitivity and overall performance.

  • The typical design of automotive driveshafts generally utilizes Constant Velocity(CV) joints as a solution to NVH. CV joints are an integral part of vehicles and significantly affect steering, suspension, and vehicle vibration comfort levels. Thus, CV joints have been favored over universal joints due to the constant velocity torque transfer and plunging capability. Although CV joints are common in vehicle applications, current research works on modeling CV joint friction and assumes constant empirical friction coefficient values. However, such models are long known to be inaccurate, especially under dynamic conditions, which is the case for CV joints. In this paper, an instrumented advanced CV joint friction apparatus was developed to measure the internal friction behavior of CV joints using actual tripod-type joint assemblies. The setup is capable of measuring key performance of friction under different realistic operating conditions of oscillatory speeds, torque and joint installation angles. The apparatus incorporates a custom-installed triaxial force sensor inside of the joint to measure the internal CV joint forces(including friction). Using the designed test setup, the intrinsic interfacial parameters of CV joints were investigated in order to understand their contact and friction mechanisms. The results provide a better understanding of CV joint friction characteristics in developing improved automotive driveshafts.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to determine whether there is a defect by using the similarity between ROIs (Region of Interest) of the standard image and ROIs of the image which is corrected in position and rotation after capturing the vehicle headlight. The degree of similarity is determined by the template matching based on the histogram of image, which is a some modification of the method provided by OpenCV where template matching is performed on the raw image not the histogram. The proposed method is compared with the basic method of OpenCV for performance analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the proposed method showed better performance than the OpenCV method, showing the accuracy close to 100%.

  • The coefficient of variation(CV) which is a relatively dimensionless measure of variability is widely used to describe the variation of sample data. However, the properties of CV distribution are little available and few research has been done on estimation and interpretation of CV. In this paper, we give an outline of statistical properties of coefficient of variation and design of control chart based on this statistic. Construction procedures of control chart are presented. The proposed control chart is an efficient method to monitor a process variation for short production run situation. Futhermore, we evaluated the performance of CV control chart by average run length(ARL).

  • Recently, the control chart is developed for monitoring processes with normal short production runs by the coefficient of variation(CV) characteristic for a normal distribution. This control chart does not work well in non-normal short production runs. And most of industrial processes are known to follow the non-normal distribution. Therefore, the control chart is required to be developed for monitoring the processes with non-normal short production runs by the CV characteristics for a non-normal distribution. In this paper, we suggest the control chart for monitoring the processes with a gamma short runs by the CV characteristics for a gamma distribution. This control chart is denoted by the gamma CV control chart. Futhermore evaluated the performance of the gamma CV control chart by average run length(ARL).

  • The scale of repair parts market reached 0.1 billion won. Above all, it is remarkable that the automotive insurance business world is paying f3r 40 ~5o% of the whole repair cost. The repair parts consist of a genuine parts, non-genuine parts, recycling used parts. It is the recent trend that recycled parts are more popular than the genuine parts f3r repairing crashed cars due to the cost. Performance of recycled continuous velocity(CV) joints and power steering(PS) gear box as replacement parts was tested and analysed in this study. To examine the durability of the recycled parts, the replaced CV joints and PS gear box after repair were tested and analysed periodically. The results were showed that basic performance of the recycled parts was normal. However the ball cage of CV joints was more frequently damaged than genuine parts. We concluded that a test standard and amendment of related laws for recycled parts is required to get a safe and durable parts.
